View 7 RepliesI wondered how everyone set their brightness - I was comparing my Hero with my wife's iPhone at home last night and the Hero was a lot dimmer in comparison because of the auto-brightness. I disabled it for the first time and cranked up to brightness and the display looked so much better - I just wondered what others thought about this and whether battery life would be affected greatly turning up the brightness.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like to listen to MP3 with my Hero. But the ringtone volume is way too high with a headphone. So before plugging in the headphone, I have to manually turn down the volume. And also I have to remember to revert it back to normal level when the headphone is unplugged. Is there an app to do it automatically? Or am I the only one here?

View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an alarm clock app with one very specific feature - allow me to set the alarm tone to automatically stop after X seconds, then start again at the next snooze interval, and play for another X seconds.
Sure it seems every alarm app out there allows me to set Snooze intervals and stuff, but with my waking up habit, I don't like to physically have to touch the phone to get it to shut up until the next snooze interval. I like to lay in bed and let the alarm go for like 3-4 snooze intervals before I finally wake up.
I've tried Alarm Clock PlusV2, Alarm Clock Xtreme, Quick Alarm. None of them seem to have this.
I installed it on my Droid and when I open the list and long press on an app it gives me the option to Auto-Kill. I assume this means I won't have to kill this app any longer so I select this option but I find that I keep having to kill the same apps over and over again. What's the point of Auto-Kill or what am I doing wrong? There are lots of programs (most I didn't even install) that run all the time and I'm having battery issues so I don't have battery to waste on programs I'm not using and will probably never use.
View 22 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to tell Android to do the following when setting the background image for a TextView?
1. Scale the image so that it's just large enough to fill the the entire viewing area without any black borders, while still maintaining its aspect ratio. This might require clipping once the image is actually displayed, but that's OK (read on).
2. Then, center the image in the viewing area, both horizontally and vertically.
3. Finally, clip the image to the size of the viewing area, without any further rescaling.
I'm guessing that this kind of image processing is not automatically done via any of Android's facilities, and that I'll have to do it myself. If this is a correct assumption, could someone point me to some documentation or some examples which could explain how I can accomplish this? I'm guessing that I'll have to subclass my TextView and implement my own onDraw() method, but could someone confirm or deny that assumption?
Are these the same? I have searched the forum, and can't seem to find the answer. I don't find any "auto brightness" setting in the settings menu on the Hero. I have auto backlight unchecked. What exactly does this do? Is this the screen dimming? Sorry, I am confused. Uh oh! Must be a senior moment!
While I am showing off photos I have on my phone, the screen dims...how do I keep this from happening?
Also, relating to photos..when I go to "Albums", I have 4 folders listed...Camera Shots, All Photos, etc. When I take a pictures with the phone camera, they seems to be in both folders. Why?
My wife and I have been having the same problem. We keep the auto-brightness option checked, but every so often we find that it goes back to manual mode--and it always reverts the phone back to full brightness setting. Any ideas why this would happen?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?
Galaxy Nexus
I was wondering what does this change and how (other than better battery life...supposedly) will this affect my phone? Will it continue to work the same as before? or will it only work in sprint network with no roaming or what?
View 41 Replies View RelatedSo one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn Android settings, under Wireless controls->Mobile networks there is a setting "Use only 2G networks".
In the Android SDK reference, under android.telephony.TelephonyManager, there doesn't seem to be anything to control the network type.
What APIs does this setting actually call?
I use "Palm VNC" to control my computers via my Palm TX; this is most useful for one particular pc as I can use the Palm's touch screen to activate commands rather than the mouse on the pc. A quick point with a finger and the command fires rather than picking up the mouse, moving to the required spot on the screen then clicking. Even more useful when I am at the other end of the room and need to fire the command. I see that there are many VNC apps for Android/Desire. What is the forum's experience of the various VNC apps?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linux N wireless router, and a desktop with a wifi card running Windows 7 (Home Premium x64). I have a HTC Magic running the 4.2 version of CyanogenMod (Android version 1.6). What I basically, want to do is in the title. I want to have an app that allows me to view my PC screen on my phone. Gmote and similar apps come close, but they are useless as I cannot view my screen. I have looked at a number of "VNC" apps, but for one reason or another it just doesn't work. I have gotten VLC Remote and TunesRemote to work, which means that I am able to connect my phone to the computer, but beside that nothing works. I managed to get TunesRemote to work by opening certain ports in Windows 7. However, I tried to do a similar thing with a number of VNC applications and none of them worked. I have been trying to port forward for the last three years and no matter what I do, it just doesn't work. I am unsure if it is my Windows 7 firewall or the router, but either way nothing seems to be working.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an app that'll let me control my Hero from my PC? so I can use my PC to send & recieve SMS via my mobile while sat at my desk using my keyboard.
My previous Nokia and Motorola phones had software for this, and my SE T630 could use BT to send & recieve texts direct from contacts on my iMac about 6years ago!
Or failing that can I pair a BT keyboard to my Hero?
As far as I know, there is no way to control over the activities occurring in an app in android phones unless the application that you want to log/monitor is written by you.
I wonder is it really like that or is there any possible way to do this? For example, is it possible to control over emails which, let's say, who I sent an email to in an android phone?
I'm looking for a volume control application (or apps that work together) to
1) Change volumes, vibrate etc. at certain times
2) Lock the volume slider (I'm fed up constantly changing the ringer vol)
I have looked through loads of apps but haven't seen one that does both, and if I use 2 separate programs they fight with each other. I'd prefer one with a widget but not a deal breaker. I currently use Timeriffic for the volume settings/timing and Volume Locker for the locking.
I've been reading a lot to being able to remote control my Linux running computers at home. I have a 60gig music collection and want to be able to play it smoothly on any of the computers or my Android. Of course I want to remote control the computers since most of them are headless (=without monitors) and until now I've remote desktop-ed them from the laptop. Oh and all the computers are Ubuntu installed. It turns out there are many different media players, even allowing DAAP or UDNP setup so that the media library is shared over my LAN, even to the Internet (subsonic). The best application I've found are Spottily and Groove shark, they're a beauty to use since the music is always available - but unfortunately they don't allow for any kind of remote control. So I thought; what if I could use some of the great media players for Android but just change the audio device they're playing on. Since Lucid Lynx actually brought an updated version of Pulse audio (the default audio device) which allows you to play music onto another computer on the network!
