Android :: How To Upload Photos From Gallery To Server?
Jul 18, 2010
I am writing an android application in which users can pick a photo from their gallery and upload it to a server. How should I accomplish this? The application mainly uses SOAP webservices to communicate with the server, but I do not know how to serialize a stream of bytes in KSOAP and therefore I need some help. The solution should not necessarily use KSOAP. A valid solution would be to upload the photo on some server, and just retrieve the URL, which will be stored in the database.

Anyone know how to unclog stalled uploads to Facebook? I've tried to upload vacation photos but they don't get through + remain somewhere between the cloud + my T-Mobile MyTouch phone. I've tried clearing the cache as well as logging off + relogging. Nothing seems to work. Any advice?

I have the Moto Droid (LOVE IT!)
I'm having some issues with the facebook app (native). I can't seem to upload photos, I don't get an error message or anything just photo cannot be uploaded.
I've been having problems with the native app, therefore I downloaded BLOO. I just don't like the idea of having 2 different FB apps to do everything I want to do :- would love any advice.
I've tried having wifi off and on and neither made a difference, and I've restarted the phone

I have some requirement to upload photo. I am able to browse gallery but not able to pick any photo from main gallery. Android allows us to upload snaps from SDCARD, I think there must be some way.

I've taken several photos on my HTC Incredible and want to upload them to my PC. I tried using the Hard drive function but when I look in the file manager on my PC desktop, I don't see any folders containing the photos I just took. They're in the phone, honest, just can't upload them. How do I do it? I even downloaded a file manager (Astro?) from the droid store but it had dozens and dozens of folders and I have no clue. The manual says photos I take are stored on the sim card so I even tried taking that out, putting it into the SanDisk adapter and plugged that into a multiple card reader and still couldn't find the photos. Where the hell are they?

Looking for an app that will automatically upload photos and videos to my PC since the last time I uploaded. i.e. I want to be able to come home, flip the wifi button on the droid and have it auto sync all the photos and videos I've taken to my pictures and video directory that were taken since the last time I synced. Looking in the market and can't find anything obvious that would do this.

Has there been an upgrade to the market that changes the minimum requirements for an app? I have taken a couple months off and now whenever I try to upload an app, I get the unhelpful message "The server could not process your apk. Try again.". This happens even when I upload the exact same apks that I have uploaded before and ones that work fine with adb push onto devices.

Since this morning, I've been getting the error in the subject when I try to upload a new APK version to my Market Developer Console. At first, I figured it was just a brief server outage, but not since it's gone on all day. I also suspect it's only affecting me, since I've seen no other mention of it on this group. Well, I'm mentioning it now.
Anyone come across this before? I've released enough APKs that I'm quite familiar with the Console; while that doesn't rule out a stupid mistake, of course, I don't think that's the case here. Obvious possibilities that I think I HAVE ruled out: I've confirmed that it's the correct package name, and that it's signed with the same key as it always has been. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to consider.
I have also contacted Market Support, with no response as yet. And I did notice that this morning was the first time the "Draft application" feature became available on my Console; not sure if that's relevant, but coincidences are suspicious.

I have 3 days into this and my mind is melting oozing out my ears...
The end result is that I want to upload selected photos from and Android phone to a php website.
I can display the images from the camera and get the filename that I want to upload. However I cannot use FileInputStream on the file name because it is not private to my application. Use FileInputStream generates an error that the file contains a path separater.
Does anyone know how to get the filestream running? Do I have to copy the file into a private file store?
After 3 days of googling this I am amazed I haven't that answer.

I need to upload an image to a remote PHP server which expects the following parameters in HTTPPOST:
*$_POST['title']*
*$_POST['caption']*
*$_FILES['fileatt']*
Most of the Internet searches suggested either :
Download the following classes and trying MultiPartEntity to send the request:
apache-mime4j-0.5.jar
httpclient-4.0-beta2.jar
httpcore-4.0-beta3.jar
httpmime-4.0-beta2.jar
OR
Use URLconnection and handle multipart data myself.
Btw, I am keen on using HttpClient class rather than java.net(or is it android.net) classes. Eventually, I downloaded the Multipart classes from the Android source code and used them in my project instead.
Though this can be done by any of the above mentioned methods, I'd like to make sure if these are the only ways to achieve the said objective. I skimmed through the documentation and found a FileEntity class but I could not get it to work.
What is the correct way to get this done in an Android application?

when using it with an imap (not gmail) mail account, can k-9 upload the emails you send from the mobile to the 'sent' folder on the imap server? I searched several forums reviews blogs etc but couldn't find anything on this point. It would be very useful because it would allow me to easily keep track of the emails I send from the mobile, just like I do with Profimail on my Nokia at the moment.

So just purchased the incredible, coming from a BB Storm. I'm blown away by the picture quality but I still don't understand the best way to save/manage photo's on an online site. I know there's Picassa, Flikr and Photobucket. Has anyone tried multiple sites and determined the best tool to save pictures. My goal is to be able to easily upload them from my phone (without having to connect to PC) and share the albums online. I've done a little research and it looks like the Photobucket app might be the way to go.

It says: Your browser is not compatible with direct photo upload (image below). WTF?

Now I have the option to upload. Quick Office file browser, and still gives me an error.

Was it meant to fail? Each time I try to upload a pic it tells me to enter an account or make a new one, it jumps from the caption enter page to the new account setup screen...
The regular gallery app is limited to flickr which I don't use, I don't use Picasa either but keeping all else google at least makes it easier to integrate later on... I don't use facebook either... Heaven would be imageshack for me, so what does one do in this dilly of a pickle?

I have a listview that has a photograph from the gallery for each entry but it was blowing up and running out of memory so I resized the image
BitmapFactory.Options opts = new BitmapFactory.Options();
opts.inSampleSize = 8;
Bitmap yourSelectedImage = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(photo,opts);
imgView.setImageBitmap(yourSelectedImage);
The problem I have is that each image in the list has to be resized before it is displaying the view. Is there a way to link to the thumbnail view instead of the full size image so that I don't have to resize them or is there a way to load each picture as it is sized instead of having to wait for them all.

In the past a tech support set my I7500 in a way that my pc recognized my phone attached through USB, without the need of using New PC Studio software. This allowed me to upload pix and videos from phone to pc and viceversa. I did a hard reset to my phone and lost all settings. Can't remember how to set it back.
