Android :: How To Paste Copied Number From Browser Into Dialer?

Dec 26, 2009

Was out today and called up some numbers for restaurants in the browser. I tried to copy the number from the browser so I could paste it into the dialer. I managed to get the number to the clip-board, but then I couldn't paste it into the dialer! I'm using a DSTL1 which only has soft keyboard and I can't get combinations of shift and menu to make it work.

Anyone have any work around for this? Also if you are in the sense browser you cannot click on a phone number that has. instead of - and have it dial. you can on the basic Android browser.

It is these two things that kill sense for me. If anyone has any workarounds they would be much appreciated.

HTC Hero :: (Copy / Paste) Editing Phone Number From Text Message?

May 12, 2010

I am switching from a BB. I receive text messages from my office with client's phone numbers. We prefer to keep our mobile numbers private, so we need to block our caller id on a per call basis. It wouldn't work for us to block caller id on all calls. On my BB, I would copy and paste the number and then add *67 as a prefix.

On the Hero I can't find a way to edit the phone number from the text message. I can delete it, but can't add to it. Most of these numbers I would not want to add to my address book. I had my office text the number with *67 as a prefix, but the Hero doesn't recognize the *. It just copies the digits. What workaround options do I have?

Motorola Droid X :: Dialer And Setting Default Number

Nov 12, 2010

Lots of my contacts - especially my "favorite" contacts - have multiple phone #'s, which is pretty typical. So it's a nice feature in the dialer that lets you select a specific number - home, office, mobile, etc., to dial every time you pull up the favorites tab within the dialer screen. I by mistake checked "use as default number" for one particular contact, but now I want to deactivate that selection and have no default number for that particular contact.

I know how to switch the default number from one to another; is there a way to deactivate the default number and just have the phone ask me which number to dial, e.g. home, office, mobile, etc.? I've been trying to tinker with everything I can to no avail, and I've also been shut out trying to answer this question online. Only thing I haven't done is call Verizon.

Samsung Moment : App To Automatically Input Number Into Dialer?

Jan 21, 2010

Ive been searching for this for a few days and Ive got nothing so hopefully someone knows. Is there any way to call a number that's been sent via sms? Ex: My wife sent me a text containing the phone number of a client. On previous phones, that number would be a hyperlink and when I clicked it the dialer would open with that number pre-inserted. It seems on the moment I have to memorize the number, go to the dialer and input it in. This isn't so easy when your driving or doing much of anything.

Is there any app or setting that allows me to automatically input the number into the dialer? I tried copy and paste but you cant paste into the dialer.

Android :: Want To Replace Dialer App By Another Dialer App?

Feb 10, 2009

We want to disable the default dialer application and install our own dialer application on phone. We want to know how we can disable the default dialer so that it doesn't listen for missed calls, incoming calls and also it doesn't gets launched by other application for making calls instead our application gets launched. Only our dialer application should be listening on it. We want to use same format as existing content URIs supported by default dialer in our own dialer application. Is this possible? If yes then how we can achieve it? We don't want to delete the call log application code or we don't want to remove it from build. We want to have default dialer in device. Our dialer application will be installed later may be by downloading from Internet by end user.

Android :: File Copied To SD Card - Contents Not Matching With Original Source

Feb 4, 2009

We have ported android to our hardware. I am facing some issues related to sdcard. Here is the test scenario and issues:

First issue :
1. On hardware, insert the card and copy a file to sdcard using dd command.
2. Remove the card from hardware.
3. Do ls /sdcard. It shows the file present in sdcard. It seems unmount of sdcard device is not happening.

Second issue:
1. Copy a file to sdcard using dd command.
2. Remove the sdcard and check the content of the sdcard from PC. File is not visible.
3. Copy file to sdcard again and then check the content of sdcard from PC. File size is zero bytes.
4. Restart the hardware and copy the file again. File is visible when checked from PC.

Third issue:
1. The content of copied file are not matching with the original source file.

Android :: Read Data That Been Separately Copied To Sd Card Without Having Root Permissions?

May 4, 2010

I am developing an application that needs to access data on the sd card. When I run on my development device (an odroid with Android 2.1) I have root access and can construct the path using:

CODE:..........................

However, when I install this on a phone (2.1) where I do not have root access I get files == null. I assume this is because I do not have the right permissions to read the data from the sd card. I also get files == null when just trying to list files on /sdcard. So the same applies without my constructed path.

Also, this app is not intended to be distributed through the app store and is needs to use data copied separately to the sd card so this is a real use-case. It is too much data to put in res/raw (I have tried, it did not work).

I have also tried adding: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />

To the manifest, even though I only want to read the sd card, but it did not help. I have not found a permission type for reading the storage.

Arrived today (free from O2) is a Samsung Galaxy Fame (not yet got home, so can't tell you exact model number etc).

My question is whether there is an easy way to copy contacts (and maybe messages, profiles, pictures, etc), and if what should I do in what order? I am completely new to Android.

Android :: Read LARGE Sqlite File To Be Copied Into Emulator - Or Device From Assets Folder

May 28, 2010

I guess many people already read this article:

Using your own SQLite database in Android applications: http://www.reigndesign.com/blog/using-your-own-sqlite-database-in-android-applications/comment-page-2/#comment-12368

However it's keep bringing IOException at

CODE:.............

I'am trying to use a large DB file. It's as big as >8MB. I built it using sqlite3 in Mac OS X, inserted UTF-8 encoded strings (for I am using Korean), added android_meta table with ko_KR as locale, as instructed above.

However, When I debug, it keeps showing IOException at

CODE:..............

I suspect it's caused by trying to read a big file. If not, I have no clue why.
I tested the same code using much smaller text file, and it worked fine.

Can anyone help me out on this? I've searched many places, but no place gave me the clear answer, or good solution. Good meaning efficient or easy.

I will try use BufferedInput(Output)Stream, but if the simpler one cannot work, I don't think this will work either.

Can anyone explain the fundamental limits in file input/output in Android, and the right way around it, possibly?

Funny thing though: When I erase some of my old mp3s and then load them back up, media players show them properly. I really don't know what to do please somebode help. The only thing I didn't try is restoring to factory default.
