Android : How To Get Droid Market Data
Jun 1, 2009
I was wondering if there is a way that I could access the market data from Google's (android's) servers, in a similar fashion to Cyrket.com (such as an open web service, etc)
This would definitely increase the market's potential and usability, and I was wondering how I could go about getting that data, since cyrket obviously has a way.

AGAIN, my DX doesn't work. I can't access the Market, Internet, Facebook, Maps, etc. It says I have "no connection" or "cant fetch data" and so on. This happened to me when I rooted using the "Z4Root" method. When that happened I used RSDLite and flashed the Stock 2.2. SBF file back to stock, so I could start fresh and root again. Roooler from DF helped me root again using the "RootMyX2" method. Everything went fine, I was able to root, overclock, remove apps, etc. I made a backup before I did anything. Tonight, all of a sudden Google Voice wouldn't work for me, every time I pressed the button it said "no audio" when I tried to talk. I figured what the hell, I would just restore my backup, haven't tried it yet to see if it works, the restore went fine. When I got my phone up and running the SAME PROBLEMS started again. I can't use the Internet, Gmail and Market says "no connection", etc. I made sure GPS and DATA are on in the Power Widget.
I really need to figure out why this keeps happening. This is the second root method I've tried and still get these problems. I need someone, anyone to HELP! LOL, this is getting ridiculous.

Deleting an application results in having more memory available in your G1. But doing so does not affect the memory used by the Market app; in fact, the memory used by the app grows over time and there seems to be no way to clear the data, or is there a way?

As far as I can tell, there is no API (official or unofficial) to access information about Apps on the Android Market (info such as Title, Icon, Description, Downloads, Comments, etc..)
However, there are a few websites that have managed to compile this information anyway.
My question is: How is this being done?
A couple of guesses.
Manually (not likely, due to volume) Implemented the protocol used by the official app (by decompiling or observing packets) Running some kind of debugger with the official app to extract the live data Using some kind of automation + screen shots + text recognition (seems complicated) Modifying the (open) source to write a log file
I'm just curious how this was done because I sure can't figure it out.

I've noticed lately that some app recommender programs seem to get data off the android market. I'm wondering how I could retrieve information, such as screen shots, description, developer, number of downloads, rating, etc...
I've done many searches and I haven't found any solutions. It would be nice to be able to use that info to be able to see a rating for an app inside an app chooser, for example. Or perhaps be able to track changes and rating over time and version history, etc...
Is there an API to access that information? Is there a way to parse the data from a website? Or is there a complicated hack involved?

My HTC Desire (UK) has been find ever I had it, no issues whatsoever. Recently updated the Android software and ever since then I can only access the web/market etc when connected through wifi.
My signal bar simply shows bars whereas in the past it had either a G, 3G or H next to it, and I'm guessing this is linked into the problem.

As we know, the apps in the apple app store has a unique itunes link, and we can fetch app data about the app from app store through the link.I am wondering how can i achieve this in the android market, just like the website http://www.androlib.com/ did?As long as I know, each app in the android market has a ID, which just like "com.gabrouze.magic", and the QR Code can be viewed in "http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&chs=135x135&chl=market://search?q=pname:com.gabrouze.magic".

I just got new Behold II but I do not have a data plan. Initially, using WiFi, my son logged on to his Gmail account but then I cleared his login within Application settings. Now, I try to login to my Gmail account or Antroid Market but it doesn't work.I keep getting "Cannot establish a reliable connection with server. This could be a temporaty problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data service,. If it continues, call Customer care.Do I have to have data plan? If that's case, how did my son logged on to his account?

I had an edited png for the market icon in the vending apk but when I applied my edited png's to Ivans rom with the market fix it seems to have changed the icon back to the original market Icon. When I first loaded the rom it showed my edited png for the market icon but after my first reboot it seems to change the icon back to the original. I assume that the market is updating upon reboot so I pulled the vending apk off my phone and my edited png's are still there but its still showing the original market icon. Anybody else with an edited market icon notice this or any ideas of why its going back to original? I have tried this a couple times and it always updates after first reboot...

I've been rooted with Droid Mod forever and have never had any issues or never tried other roms it worked so I've stayed with it. Anyway I was screwing around trying to fix a problem and did a nandroid back up and and restore ( i'm clueless) Did not wipe info (that scares me) and I reflashed the rom a couple times because I kept selecting or deselecting the wrong things. Finally got everything perfect. The phone seemed to like the mini overhaul. But when I rebooted the market apk is gone. No where to be found. All my apps are there but no icon for market. Its just gone. Can I get that, download it desktop, mount, and drag to phone somewhere?

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before). For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.

Can anyone help explain what this does? I did a small search around the internet, and it came up with just about nothing. My first question is: I turned mobile data off, and yet, during the night, I was charged for data, so something leaked.Personally, I thought if this was because of this particular function. But maybe it was something else. So, I turned it off, but around the forums for other androids people seem to think that syncing doesn't work as well with this disabled.Does anybody know what might have happened? And could this function have been the thing that caused the leak. The leak, was actually for only 50 KB or so, but because I'm on Page Plus, it caused me to go under the required balance to refill of $29.95 and caused my plan to lapse. It's important for me for this not to happen again. Can anyone give any tips?

I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a

I have the following clear message :
Market requires the minSdkVersion to be set in AndroidManifest.xml.
But my manifest has the line : <uses-sdk minSdkVersion="2" /> and I also tried even <uses-sdk minsdkversion="2" />... I try to put this line : as the first child of manifest, as the last child and also right after application.. Is there a hidden rule I don't know ...

I am developping (for my company) an app included on a project that will have 2 versions:
- 1st simple version to download using a OTA server, clients accesss to an URL to download.
- 2nd version more complex to be published on the Market.
The question here is that the process to publish on the Android Market is under bureaucratic internal process and it takes a long time, so the idea do reduce the time to market is to provide an OTA version.
There is any possibility for users that download application via OTA to upgrade the application for version published later on the Market? (Both Application will be signed with the same key).

I know my question answers but since there's a lot of you who really spend your time scrutinizing your rank, downloads and all, I'm trying it maybe someone came up with empiric science on this one :
Does anyone understood even bits of how the market ranks apps in the market ?
I usually don't look at stats but following another post on this topic, I counted my rank in my category ... 565 ... Ouch that hurts! Especially when half the apps in front of mine, are crap apps with less downloads and ratings as low as 1 star :).
Not that it would make a difference being rank 250 instead of 565...But this is humiliating a little :s
Since my app has been on the market for one month, i'm wondering if age matters ...
I know I should have asked in the market "black hole of hell " google group but the name says it all. And I'm sure some of you already figured out some of the black magic used by the Market to rank apps.

I have an HTC buzz, which has a smaller screen (QVGA) than most android phones. Now there is an application (hyves) which is in the market but when I scan their QR code or try it via appbrain it keeps saying Not Found. A frien of mine (who now is in belgium) has a G1 and I've copied the APK when he installed hyves. The app itself works fine just the icons are a little to large, but that is not annoying.
Now the problem, there is an update, and I cannot install it via the normal way. Is there a way to get the download URL of an APK in the market (via cyrket or so)? I can try to sniff my network when the phone trys to get an app but I'm not sure how to do that and if that would work...

Customer wants to provide its own market, so that customers who buys their own sold phone (a new HTC with Customners Branding and User-Interface). They have several Apps to provide and will publish them via an App on this Phone initially installed.

I've just noticed that the Android Market shows a blank page with the message 'No matching content in Android Market'. Yet when I go to specific sections of the Market or do a search, one is able to download and install applications and games just fine. I've only just noticed this happening in the last few days. I'm using an unlocked UK version Galaxy S but my location is Inner Mongolia, China. Would this have anything to do with Android Market not showing content on the front page? The S itself is loaded with Froyo, as downloaded from the XDA forums.
