I am developing an Android application for which I would like to add Facebook functionality using Facebook's Android SDK. I have registered the application and acquired the ID and Secret, but what is the point of the URL? Am I supposed to install something on my website on that specific URL so that I Facebook can do the OAuth key exchange?

The app and code works just fine when I try to login to the gmail xmpp instant messaging server. However I cant get myself to login to the facebook chat server.

facebook chat server: chat.facebook.com port: 5222 service: chat.facebook.com I'm not entirely sure about this so I have tried without the service parameter: ConnectionConfiguration connConfig = new ConnectionConfiguration(host, Integer.parseInt(port)); username: I have tried both: <my fb username> and <my fb username>@chat.facebook.com password: <my fb password>
I have noticed the request for no ssl so just in case I added to the code: connConfig.setSASLAuthenticationEnabled(false);
Do I need to download it? where is it?
View 49 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or does the Facebook app (both Android and HTC Sense versions) absolutely suck? I just came from a Blackberry Storm and while that phone is horrid, at least they got the Facebook implementation down. The Android app doesn't seem to pick up any notifications or events and I have yet to figure out what the HTC Sense version does other than sync Facebook pictures and spam my phonebook with people I never talk to. Let me give you some examples of my frustration: Someone invites me to an event. On Blackberry: The Facebook e-mail shows up in my gmail inbox but BB filters it out and it shows up as a notification in the Facebook app. I can open up the notification, see all of the event information in the app, including a description, who's invited and it is automatically added to my phone's calendar, along with all relevant information. On Droid Incredible: The Facebook e-mail shows up in my gmail inbox as an e-mail. No notification because the Facebook app polls. I open the app and refresh everything (notifications, inbox, friends etc) but the event doesn't show up. With no other choice, I open up the link in the inbox and it brings me to the Facebook Touch (not mobile) site, which only shows the bare minimum information (time and place). No idea how to add it to my calendar other than manually typing in all of the information......

The important thing is I don't want a Facebook dialog box to pop up, instead ,just send the message as status without a dialog box. Is there any way I could post without a dialog box?

Who else is getting the error " [Malformed JSON] when trying to open the news feed in the Facebook app? Mine has been working on and off the past couple days, yet my girlfriends droid has been fine. I dont think its an isolated incident, because if you look at the comments other people are getting this error. I have set the refresh interval at 30 minutes. and notifications checked (active). i have chosen messages, Pokes, Friend Requests and event invites all checked green under notification settings. For some reason, whenever i receive a friend request, i dont get notified under my notification bar. I always see that when i open the application. I was hoping to get notification without opening the app. do i need to do something to fix this? Or am i missing something very basic here.

People have ported Java APIs to work on Android and have written FaceBook Client applications(FaceBook dev: Wiki Page). Apparently, there is also a light weight FaceBook SDK in alpha release for Android(a la FBRocket). But it is not avised to be used in Production.
Since these FaceBook functionalities have been exposed as REST based service, most of work would invove sending requests in desired format over Http. So, writing a FaceBook client app for Android certainly is doable.There are similar applications already in market e.g.: Bloo.
Questions: When asked to write a FaceBook client application what approach should one undertake? Should we choose the SDK or invoke the services over Http?
If there is already a Web application that integrates with FaceBook, can we just browse to that Application from inside a WebView and be done with this?
