Android :: How To Layout Text To Flow Around Image?

Feb 12, 2010

Can you please tell me if there is a way to layout textaround an image?I have gotten a response from an android developer about this question. But I am not sure what he means by doing my own version of TextView? Thank for any tips.This is not possible using only the supplied widgets and layouts. could write your own version of TextView to do this, it shouldn't be hard.

I seem to be stuck and cant think about which layout should I choose. I am a beginner in Android Developing.

Aug 2, 2012

New to Android and to Dolphin Browser HD. I've Googled for days, however, I have come up with squat.

1) When I open a new tab, can it automatically go to my homepage and not the "Speed Dial" sort of page it does now? Any add-ons that might enable this?

2) Does Dolphin Browser HD do automatic text reflow? And, if not, any other browsers that can do this? It is pretty tedious now trying to read pages that aren't re-sized for mobile.

Android :: Which Layout To Use For 2x2 Image - Based Menu?

Nov 3, 2010

I am trying to create a screen (in portrait mode) that shows 4 images (same size, intended to scale down to fit screen), taking up the entire screen, breaking up the screen into quadrants (a tall, 2x2 grid). This will act as a main menu type of activity and each image should be clickable, in order to take the user to a different activity.

I have tried using a GridView inside a LinerLayout (using a lot from Google's GridView tutorial) but cannot get the images to all scale properly to fill the entire screen. I get extra margins around the images and/or scrolling of the entire screen. I have also tried using a TableLayout, placing 2 images in each of the 2 rows. Visually, that worked perfectly. Unfortunately when using that, I cannot seem to reference the ImageView items in the TableLayout in my activity code (findViewById always returns null)..................

i.setImageResource(R.drawable.blue_1);
i.setAdjustViewBounds(true);
mRelativeLayout.addView(i);

Android :: Creating A Custom Image Based Layout?

Sep 26, 2010

Is it possible to create a layout based on (background) images? For example, there is well know app called Appie that uses this picture as a homescreen:

I might be able to recreate the layout with a TableLayout, but this will be difficult to get it perfectly aligned with the buttons in the image. The default layout options make it very difficult, or maybe impossible, to allow for selection of the buttons on the image (especially when the buttons are in an arc-path). Can anyone tell me how this is done?

Android :: Multiple Screen Support - Size / Image And Layout

Nov 11, 2010

I am trying to develop an app for which I want multiple screen support. I have read the Android article on Best practices for Multiple Screen Support. As per the article we have to follow 3 important things:
1. Mention support for different screen sizes (large, medium and small) and any density in AndroidManifest.xml.
2. Place images of 3 dpi's (120, 160, 240) in 3 folders res/ldpi, res/ mdpi and res/hdpi.
3. In layout's the dimension should be mentioned in "dip" units. Then Android will take care of the scaling on its own.

I have implemented all these points in my project. The images are picked up correctly from the appropriate folders. But the arrangements of the controls in not same. e.g. I ran the app on three emulators 1. Resolution 240*320 dpi 120. 2. Resolution 240*320 dpi 160. 3. Resolution 240*320 dpi 240. (All the emulator have same resolution but different density). The problem is the position of the controls is not same on all the three emulator. As per my understanding if the android:layout_marginLeft and android:layout_marginTop are mentioned in "dip" then this problem should not occur. As the density of the emulator increases the controls get placed more towards the right. Is it necessary that I provide layouts for all combinations of dimensions and density i.e. in layout-small, layout-large, layout- medium, layout-long,layout-notlong?

Android :: Cannot Display Image Correctly Using Custom Item Layout In ListView

Apr 22, 2010

I am using a ListView to display my custom item layout, which may contain some TextViews and an ImageView.

This is the item layout I made (post_item.xml):

CODE:........................

I don't put the ImageView initially in the xml layout, but I will insert it when I need to the FrameLayout programmatically (I also put another views in it when needed). So, there will be some items which has ImageView in it and which don't.

I get the image to fill the ImageView from the Internet (through URL), decode it as Bitmap, and keep it as a Bitmap variable in a class represents the custom item layout (class PostItem).

When the activity shows for the first time it looks fine, but as I scrolled through the items then a problem showed up, the items which shouldn't show any image show the image from the other item which should, although they don't have any ImageView (because I didn't insert it).

I am using SDK 1.6 and the emulator. Haven't tried it in real device because I don't have it.

Here is my code for the Adapter:

CODE:..............

And this is the code to prepare the items:

CODE:.........................

Is this the bug in the emulator or there is some mistake in my code (probably memory problem for the Bitmap)?

Multiple Image Views In Linear Layout?

Jun 11, 2013

I am using a linear layout to draw a scalable background in my app. I am then defining multiple imageviews inside the linear layout, all of which are PNGs containing a transparency layer. I am wanting to overlay these transparent imageviews on top of the background. My issue is that only the first defined imageview shows on top of the background, any subsequent imageviews do not appear.

CODE: Note that imgSen1 appears properly with transparency overlaid on the background. imgSen2 does not appear. If I define imgSen2 first, and imgSen1 second, imgSen2 then appears properly, as if only the first defined imageview can be seen. I would like to have multiple imageviews with transparency overlaying the background.
