Android :: Get Screen Resolution / Pixels As Integer Values
May 25, 2010
How can I quickly access the screen resolution (width, height) as integer values? I've tried this one, but it always shows zero on my emulator:
DisplayMetrics dm = new DisplayMetrics();
int width = dm.widthPixels / 2;
In my case I want to dynamically create a table with tableRows, each containing two cols. This cols all shall fill half of the screen in width.

I'm trying to insert values on Android SQLite Database. The question is, Iḿ trying to insert a word, the table has 3 columns, ID, WORD, COUNT. When I insert a word in the database, some method will verify if this word exists on the database. If yes, it will increment the value of COUNT for this word.

I want to publish an application that specifically runs only on 800x480 or higher screens. I don't want users with 480x320, 320x240 etc devices to get it from Android Market. How do I configure it? Market Filters seems to have the answer but I still don't get it.

I have a program that should work on Android 1.5, but when it's run on newer devices with higher resolution screens, it should support the full resolution and not emulate a lower resolution screen. As far as I can tell from the documentation, this should be simple.
I just specify
code:.........
The problem is that if I tell Eclipse to compile for 1.5, it refuses to accept this. It reports an error (targetSdkVersion is an unknown tag) and refuses to compile or run. If I tell it to compile for 1.6 it works fine, of course. But if I then try to install on a 1.5 AVD, the program immediately crashes with a java.lang.VerifyError. I'm clearly missing something simple. How do I get it to compile an apk that works under 1.5, but still includes the targetSdkVersion tag?

I used the layout editor in eclipse to mock up my ui layout and then I created the code to populate it dynamically and things are showing up as different sizes. The XML I use to add the star images looks like this:
<ImageView
android:src="@drawable/star_gold"
android:layout_height="22sp"
android:layout_width="22sp"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:layout_marginLeft="2sp"
android:layout_marginRight="2sp" />...............

Rather than do this by just creating a lot of strings (which I've already managed), I want to add an integer and then print those list to the screen. At the moment, I'm just trying to get one integer on the screen without even adding it, but the app is "force closed" in the emulator. Why doesn't this work? Add one to it and then print the answer to this for a given loop (say up until 10).
Code:
package com.monkeez.count;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.TextView;
public class Count extends Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
TextView countDisplay;
@Override public void onCreate (Bundle savedInstanceState) { int counter = 1;
countDisplay = new TextView(this);
this.setContentView(countDisplay);
countDisplay.setText("counter here");
} }
The log cat is thus:

I got my incredible yesterday, it's all going well, except that I noticed this line of pixels, not really any color in particular, but when you move the phone and look closely, they are very slightly distorted, and it makes them stick out slightly. I've noticed this problem on TVs before but I never understood it. I'm thinking it may be the invisible shield I had the person at the store install for me? I'm hoping it's not the screen...but here's a picture. I understand it may be hard to see, but if you move away from the picture you can sort of see what I'm talking about.

Went into the mall where I work this morning, there's a verizon kiosk right outside my store. Pick up an Incredible. Start driving home while playing with it. At a red light I notice a bright green pixel over an orange area of my wallpaper. Indeed it was there throughout any application I used. When I loaded up the browser and went to "about:blank" (which loads a fully white screen) I was able to see it there also.
Bummer. I live 14 miles from where I work, and where I picked up this Incredible. So I head over to another Verizon store closer to where I live. I show the agent, and he agrees and we swap it. Next phone... dust under the screen, 3 particles, right out of the box!
Once more another replacement. This time a red bright pixel around the same area (lower left quadrant of the screen) as the first phone! 4th phone into it, finally no issues.
Has anyone else gotten dead/ bright pixels in their AMOLED displays? Open your browser and enter this address in. about:blank, just like that. look hard, tell me what ya find. Took me four phones to get a good one. Hope everyone else here doesn't have to go through the same.

I bought 2 Epics last night was so excited! I like the phone except for a couple of things that i have noticed one of them being the wobble oreo effect that I seem to have on both phones and I just noticed I have dead pixels on both phones! I am so disappointed and don't know what to do? The pixels are one to two tiny black specks that can be seen on light background screen colors.

How do you set/pass values from one screen (activity) to another? What I have in the R.layout.main view labeled Calculator contains the code for doing calculations. The main.xml contains the layout (view) of the main screen. I have created an options menu which has another screen which shows you setup (R.layout.setup). The dialogsetup.xml contains the layout (view) for it.
When you press the menu button, you get the options menu. If you select "Setup", then it will display the setup screen. Now what I need to do is take the values from the setup screen (radio button and text values) and place them in the main screen so that when you exit the setup screen and go back to the main screen, you can take those values and use them in your main code.

With Android, you can define different resources for different phone attribute by naming res directories appropriately. I need to be able to support different layouts for 480x800 and 480x854. I figured I could have one set of resources stored in the layout-hdpi-v4 directory and another in layout-long-hdpi-v4. However, both resolution seem to think that they are long (at least based on the emulator, which I understand may not reflect devices accurately). Is there another way in which I can distinguish between the two resolutions/aspect ratios?

I am developing Android Application using SDK 1.5 and testing application on HTC Hero, its firmware is Android 1.5.
Let me come to actual point: in application, i am having an imageview for displaying image (Image resolution is 320*480), now imageview is displaying image in full-screen perfectly, but when i am trying to test it on HTC EVO 4G (having resolution 480*800), image gets stretch.
So, what i like to do is want to display 320*480 resolution image in all screen-resolution mobile ? i means to say,if the mobile is of higher resolution(i.e. 480*800 , 480*854, or else) than the image should be displayed in "Center" portion of the screen.
So displaying image in Center in all screen (without stretching or cutting) resolution other than 320*480, what attributes i have to set ?

I am new to android, how to create an app for different resolution i am trying to develop an android app using imageview and textview. I am using the standard AVD (800) for testing. Now all the images seem dis-arrayed when i use it for other resolutions. I am wondering if the solution is through coding wherein my design will adjust itself to the screen size automatically?
Secondly, when i use the auto-rotate feature, again all image placings get dis-arrayed. I am also looking for solution that will allow my images to maintain the placings when rotated.
