HTC Droid Eris : Dust And Dead Pixels

Dec 24, 2009

I have had my Eris for about three weeks now and noticed three dead pixels at the top where the signal is meter is. They are pretty much hidden all the time unless the phone is on a black screen. I've also noticed a few dust particles sitting in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Anyone else getting dead pixels or dust under their screen? Small issues, but irritating knowing they're there.

Will Verizon swap it out for a new handset? When i first upgraded I got the Motorola droid, but returned it for the eris. Will that be an issue if they swap out the phone, as I've already exchanged it once?

Motorola Droid X :: Dead Pixel Or Dust Under Screen?

Jul 22, 2010

note: this is an artist rendition because my digital camera is terrible and i couldn't figure out how to get the dust in the shot. but it looks just like this. it's a black speck under the screen that can only be seen on bright surfaces and only if you are looking at the screen head on. i'm not sure if it might be a dead pixel. i can certainly live with this problem although i'd prefer if it wasn't there.

1. is this a dead pixel or dust?
2. how do i fix this, can i just exchange it at the vzw store whenever they stop being sold out?

HTC Incredible : Dead/ Bright Pixels - Loads A Fully White Screen

Apr 29, 2010

Went into the mall where I work this morning, there's a verizon kiosk right outside my store. Pick up an Incredible. Start driving home while playing with it. At a red light I notice a bright green pixel over an orange area of my wallpaper. Indeed it was there throughout any application I used. When I loaded up the browser and went to "about:blank" (which loads a fully white screen) I was able to see it there also.

Bummer. I live 14 miles from where I work, and where I picked up this Incredible. So I head over to another Verizon store closer to where I live. I show the agent, and he agrees and we swap it. Next phone... dust under the screen, 3 particles, right out of the box!

Once more another replacement. This time a red bright pixel around the same area (lower left quadrant of the screen) as the first phone! 4th phone into it, finally no issues.

Has anyone else gotten dead/ bright pixels in their AMOLED displays? Open your browser and enter this address in. about:blank, just like that. look hard, tell me what ya find. Took me four phones to get a good one. Hope everyone else here doesn't have to go through the same.

I bought 2 Epics last night was so excited! I like the phone except for a couple of things that i have noticed one of them being the wobble oreo effect that I seem to have on both phones and I just noticed I have dead pixels on both phones! I am so disappointed and don't know what to do? The pixels are one to two tiny black specks that can be seen on light background screen colors.

HTC EVO 4G :: Build Quality - Dust Under Glass

Jun 10, 2010

Light leak around front casing, dust issues. The build quality sucks, I have dust under the glass in the upper left corner. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that HTC can't place a priority on build quality. I traded my Hero with dust for an Evo with dust. Oh the joy. It's really no surprise, if light escapes from the sides, why wouldn't dust enter through the same area.

Before you reply with 'I don't have dust,' make sure you examine very very closely, with a very bright light to be sure. I was the first on this forum to call attention to the Hero's dust issue, and was greatly flamed for it at first, too. The phone's haven't even been out a week, so this issues will not be very noticeable yet (as with the Hero) but will become accepted as fact soon enough.

HTC EVO 4G :: Dust Under Glass In Upper Left Corner

Jun 13, 2010

I've had my evo for 4 days now, and I think I have a pretty significant amount of dust in the upper left corner. Before I call to exchange this, can anyone take and reply if it is more/less than the dust under your phone? There is also one random spec that made its way down to middle of phone (less concerned about this one). And yes, I know there is a thread complaining about "Crappy" build quality, but I think this phone is stellar in all other regards. I just need some verification that I have an unusual amount of dust for a 4 day old phone.

Sprint HTC Hero : Dead Pixels - Strongly Considering Getting

May 13, 2010

I currently have a 8830 Blackberry. I really want a droid phone and the HTC Hero has gotten good reviews.

A concern I always have when buying new stuff like this is.. have dead pixels been common with the HTC Hero?

Also I see some negative threads.....

What is the general consensus of the Hero? A good phone? Worth paying the full price (since my contract isn't up)? Is it worth waiting for a different model? Etc etc.

Motorola Droid :: Dust / Dirt Specks Under Glass?

Nov 15, 2009

Second Droid I've got, and the second Droid with specks of annoying dust/dirt/whatever underneath the physical glass so I cannot remove them in any shape way or form. Most of them are RIGHT on the edge of the LCD and the black border. So for most it wouldn't be an issue at all, but I'm very OCD with my electronics and I don't pay $300 for something for it to have defects on the display.

I'm taking this back, and I won't be swapping it for another Droid. Not taking my chances, why go through the same grief? I'm canceling my contract again, before I get slapped with the $36 activation fee and usage fees. This is unacceptable Motorola. I an not bashing the Droid - the thing is freaking awesome and so much fun to use. But until Motorola can produce these phones with proper workmanship and quality control, I cannot and will not.

Motorola Droid X : 1.13.604 Update Produced Dead Pixels

Jul 21, 2010

I had my DroidX Cell Phone since when it was released last week.

The Cell Phone was working very well with no dead pixels on any of the menu screens, none on any of the software applications, and none on the Camera or Camcorder applications.

I had checked for the dead pixels using different colored backgrounds, and using dark screens especially with the Camera and the Camcoder application.

On Tuesday afternoon I downlaoded and installed the DroidX 1.13.604 Update.

The DroidX now has some dead pixeks in the same location only in the Camera and Camcorder applications, and not in any of the other applications or menu items.

You need to use the Camera and Camcorder applications in very low light and viewing a dark screen and you will definitely see the white colored dead pixels.

If you using the Camera and Camcorder applications and you are looking at an object in a bright light or in an outdoors setting you will probably not notice the white colored dead pixels.

Since the dead pixels only occur in the Camera and Camcorder applications it is probably a software related bug.

HTC Incredible : Dead Pixels - Always A Blue-green Color

May 6, 2010

So today I noticed what seems to be a dead pixel (Not really dead, it just stays the same color). I'm not 100% sure if it is,but I notice that it's pretty much always a blue-green color. I tried doing a pixel fix by using one of those videos on youtube, but no luck. I did notice, however, that if i paused the video, the pixel would be filled in on a blue or green picture, but on red it would turn black. Anyone have any suggestions? If not, do you think I should try exchanging it?

Nexus : What Could Cause Dead Pixels To Appear - Specific Live Wallpaper Cause This

Mar 20, 2010

Just wondering if something specific could cause them or simply a quality issue.

My first N1 (T-Mobile purchased day one) developed a tiny dead pixel after about a week of use. I returned it to HTC and the replacement I got didnt have any but about a week after I got it, a dead pixel appeared on it. The phone was stolen so I never called HTC. I just bought an ATT N1 and again it's perfect to start. I know nothing about how electronics work but I wonder if:

-Could a specific live wallpaper cause this? I used the Grass one on both previous models.

-Could the dock cause this? When you place it in dock the screen dims and you get that floating clock. I wonder if extended stay on the dock could be the cause?

Or like I said maybe just not the best quality parts.

HTC EVO 4G : Dropped - Appeared All In Green And Black Dead Pixels

Oct 11, 2010

I recently dropped my evo for the 2nd time. 1st time no noticeable damage. 2nd time (it has a Seido Inocase II) at the bottom of the screen a large ironic smile appeared all in green and black dead pixels. I have insurance, but its pretty pricy to replace this right now I also noticed 2 weeks into this phone (which is a replacement for my first 30 day phone) that I have dust under the screen (same reason I replaced the first at RadioShack) in the top left corner. Do I have grounds for a manufacturing defect from HTC? Or am I completely boned into paying the 100? Please anyone with insurance and/or HTC defect experience let me know!

My brother and I both just updated to the new firmware and noticed something.. Go and open up the Camera app (hold the red button) and tap "Switch to Video" and then tap it again so you are back in the picture mode. Look closely at the screen (point it at a white/black wall), do you see a couple light blue/green little dots in random spots? I noticed it on my phone first and then went and asked to borrow his and sure enough, his has them too. They don't seem to actually be in the pictures themselves.. just on the viewfinder screen.

HTC Hero : Dead Pixels - Dots Are Practically Invisible During The Common Work With The Phone

I'd like ask all of you how often is this problem in Hero series? I bought one a month ago and it has some stucked pixels, but I heard that the chance of getting even worse phone is bigger, so I decided to keep this one, because these dots are practically invisible during the common work with the phone. I can see one or two if I set the brightness level to full, but thats my second question- how many of you use brightness on full or you do prefere to keep it on automatic? I discovered that on manual setting the phone loses light sensor function, am I right?

HTC Desire :: Dust Under The Screen

Jun 10, 2010

I have received three Desires and all have had dust under the screen. It's white and almost looks like a tiny hair. You really have to look to notice it, but once you know it's there it is rather annoying. I just wanted to see how many suffer from this problem on their Desire. In order to check properly, your phone needs to be off or in standby mode. Wipe away all excess dust on the screen and look very carefully. Post your findings in this thread and vote in the poll. Feel free to post information about how long you have had your phone, if it's built up over time, was present as soon as you took it out of the box, your location and network.

I've had my Inc since near the beginning (AMOLED), and just recently noticed a speck of dust under the screen. Nothing major, but a bit annoying when you're OCD like me. I bought it from Best Buy originally. Is this a pretty standard issue for the Inc, and most large screened smartphones for that matter? Is it worth taking in?? Will the problem just get worse, or is it an inevitable thing?
