Android :: Get Product Information After Barcode Scanning Into App?
May 11, 2010
Alright, so I'm trying to write a program for Android for a project for school, I figured out how to use Intents to scan, but once I find a product, how do I get that info into my app? For example, say I'm getting info from upcdatabase.com, I would just add the barcode number to the end of the url, but then how to I draw that data in? The same with Google search, how would I draw the data and the image of the item into the app?

Just got my droid incredible tonight and when trying to use the barcode scanner app it keeps trying to focus and just as it is about to lock in on the bar code, it goes out of focus and back in focus again... and repeats over and over.I tried cleaning the glass but it is pretty darn clean. Anyone else having this issue? Any thoughts?

I send backup tapes offsite each day, and every day I have to write down the barcode numbers and print them off so the driver can sign for them to say he has taken them.I know there is a 101 apps to scan, but they are all for shopping, is there a free app that will simply let me scan more than 1 item at a time, then show the scanned items in a report so I can email it myself from my phone?Just a text file that list barcodes in a row would be nice.

I seem to be the only one having this problem. I got my Hero about a week ago and stumbled upon this thread, so I figured I'd try some of these apps out. Well, when I scan the barcode, three options come up, two of which are to share the URL, the other, to open the browser. Naturally, I pick the first to open the browser only to receive an error message "There are no matches in android market for the search: XXXX". What am I doing wrong? Also, I wanted to make sure my build number was correct as it suggests at the top of the thread, but I couldn't find anything like that on the HTC website.

In December, there were new terms for the Market. A big note was "You authorize Google to give the buyer a full refund of the Product price if the buyer requests the refund within 48 hours after purchase." It still seems that all references to the refund policy still state 24 hours. http://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=134336. So is it 48 or 24 hours officially? Is the 48 hours in the agreement just because the 24 hours never seemed to be a hard deadline. I noticed users refunding around 30 hours in the past.

I am a Mac user (photographer/ videographer). I also rely heavily on my iPod Touch when mobile (i can often find a wifi signal when i am out and about). I use iCal on the Touch and iCal on my Mac as well as the address book on both everyday and as a Mobile Me user, my two devices sync so everything is mirrored and up to date. I also HATE AT&T for their terrible signal strength and coverage and have been a loyal Verizon customer for many years and this is why I don't have an iPhone. Okay, all that being said, is there an easy way to still use everything I love and rely on with my Mac (the calender and address book, mainly) and easily sync all of my existing information and future info to an Android based device? How easy is it to use an Android device with a Mac? I don't want to have to manually re-enter my entire address book into a new device.

I am developing an app that I wish to have pre-loaded with product images.Currently, I am accessing them from the resources folder 'drawable'. However, I also want the user to be able to add to list of products later by retrieving product information and products from a web server.
I can't access the resources folder at run time to save the images, so I need to have a single place to store them and retrieve them later.I have tried saving to the application directory, but am not having much success.I believe that storing images in the database is not considered good practice.

Seems to me everyone is so grateful for the Rom update that we haven't had time to be hacked off about it. I work in software and the size and number of these updates says to me that HTC knew about many of these issues before the handset shipped and were already working on fixes them. There is no way things like the camera upgrade are bug fixes found after go live. Someone (probably an accountant) decided that it was OK to ship even with the defects and that when they were fixed it was OK to have an update system that forced us all to completely rebuild our phones or partly rebuild them if we were prepared to buy a third party app to back them up.
If HTC seriously want to take on the Iphone they are going to have to be a lot slicker in future. Just having a great product is not good enough you need the whole package if you want mass market appeal. In the end they may have shot themselves in the foot. This update may have largely fixed the lag but all those early reviews are still out there and people considering this phone will still find them and be put off for months or years to come. Don't get me wrong I love it and would not change it for an Iphone or anything else I am just sad that such a great product has been so badly tainted by poor customer service and niggling faults.

I have a question concerning threads, handlers, loopers, etc. in android: In my application i have to take pictures from the camera preview (not pictures from the camera but rather just a preview frame) every time when the camera gets autofocus. So i want to implement some kind of "scanner". The app continues requesting autofocus and preview frames until the app detects a valid barcode in the picture. To achieve a continuous scanning process the app schould repeatedly request autofocus of the camera. At the moment when the camera got autofocus the next autofocus request should be fired immediately. Do you have any tips for implementig this?

I've been looking at books scanning apps - you know, the ones that let you scan the barcodes on books you own and then identify the book and enter it into a database to help in keeping track and to avoid purchasing duplicates. Ideally, this information should be sortable using various keys. The bizarre thing is that after trying two or three, I haven't yet found one that will sort by author's last name! Honestly, who would want to sort by author's first name? (Is whatever is wrong with the People app catching or something? )

Is it generally possible to have Wifi Tethering turned on (creating a Hotspot) and at the same time scanning for Wifi devices? I want several devices just discover (NOT connect) each other and log the signal strength. To do that all devices must be discoverable over Wifi and at the same time discover others.
I would just need that for some specific use case..

I've been running xtrSense and xtrRom for months with great results.
I decided to try a Froyo based Rom and my first two attempts (FroShedYo.V6 and Nonsensikal v13.2) both had the same WiFi issue.
I can't connect or even detect my wireless network. I'm 5 feet away from the AP which had great connectivity with the xtr Roms.
Settings..show Wi-Fi scanning continously.
Reboot...cycled airplane mode... nothing.
Even rewiped and reflashed.
Everything else appears to be working great.
