Android :: Get Performance Increases Using Processing For Droid?

Oct 14, 2010

I have converted a few of my Processing sketches into Android apps, but they seem to run really slowly in the emulator and on my device.

Are there any tips on how to increase the speed and performance of my sketch running as an Android app? Are there things or parts of the Processing API I should avoid?

Motorola Droid X :: Battery Meter Increases On Restart

Jul 19, 2010

I got my Droid X on release day and I'm loving it, but I've noticed a bit of a weird issue. I don't charge my phone in the course of a day... letting the battery drain as much as possible before plugging it in... but several times now I've noticed that my battery meter actually increases when I restart the phone. Yesterday I drained it to 20%, restarted the phone, and it was at 70%. Tonight it got down to 40%, I restarted it, and now it's at 80%... and these aren't just fluke readings that go away after 5-10 minutes... the battery drains consistently from that percentage point.

Samsung Moment :: How To Increases Volume?

The volume is way to low on the moment. Both speaker/ringer, and well as in call volume. Is there anything that can be done? I am a Touch Pro 2 Windows Mobile user, and there is a file which can be replaced in the main Windows directory which increases volume. Does Android have any similar trick? I am finding this info out for a friend of mine who just bought the Moment. Also, SMS tone is very short, is there any way to set it to be like a ring tone, sit no time limit?

Android :: How Does Emulator Performance Compare To Real Device Performance?

May 23, 2010

I'm looking into writing an Android game, tough I don't curerntly own an Android device. For those of you who own a device, how does the performance on the emulator relate to real device performance? I'm especially interested in graphics related tasks. This obviously depends on both the machine running the emulator, and the specific device in question, but I'm talking rough numbers here. This question is a duplicate, but since that post is heavily outdated, I figured it's irrelevant by now.

Android :: Droid Background Service Stops Processing Broadcas Events / Solve It?

Nov 6, 2010

I've a problem with my android application.
I'm using a background service (with notification on the status bar) which performs an audio sample every hour. To perform this sample I generate a broadcast event every hour and when I capture the event the audio recording starts. During the day, when I'm using the phone, I've no problems. The strange behavior happens during night, when it seems like if the phone goes to an "idle" state: the broadcast events are no more processed. From the log file I understood that the events are generated and putted in a queue... and when I start using again the phone, all those events are raised in the same moment.
Do u have any idea about how to solve this problem? How can I force the phone to continue processing my events? do I have to set any variable of flag to avoid the phone going in this kind of "idle" state?

HTC Droid Eris :: Will Android 2.0/2.1 Improve Performance?

Dec 3, 2009

Will Android 2.0/2.1 improve performance? The Eris is a cool phone and all but it simply cant keep up with me. There is nothing wrong with my phone also. I have rebooted it and have 80mb free memory. Same thing at Verizon store display phone. It just cant keep up and the lag and waiting periods (1 second or so) are annoying me. Yes one second is alot of lag time when you are trying to do things. It sounds like "only one second" but there are 100 of these one second lag times all over the phone. Im not even an "expert" or "hardcore" user.

Anyon know if Android 2.0 will run faster? Playing a simple MP3 while trying to navigate the phone increases the lag times. Why dosnt the older iphone 3g have these lag issues when they both have equal CPUs?

When will Google and HTC aknowledge the MAJOR issue with the ENTIRE phone slowing down the a crawl once available RAM goes under 30mb. (common with all Android phones) Is it SO hard to have the ability to shutdown apps and automatically remove them from ram when Im done using them? This is the same stupidity Windows Mobile went through back in 2003. Yes I understand that Android will remove unused apps from RAM to make room for the next one but this is where the lag is coming from. The entire phone slows to a crawl unless you free up some memory with 3rd party apps.

Android :: WebView And Response Processing

Nov 8, 2010

Currently, I use a regular activity with some EditText fields as a registration screen in my application. The inputs are used to construct a soap message which is posted to the registration server, with the response being parsed to do some configuration of the application.I'd like to change this to have the registration page load in a WebView instance, so that the registration process takes place on an external web page. This would make it easier to make changes to the registration process without having to deploy a new build, as it would just be a matter of changing the web page that is loaded in the WebView. The question is would there be any way for me to get the response that is sent back from my registration server to the client? From what I can tell, if I went this route, there wouldn't be a way for me to parse the response like I currently do to initialize the application settings.

Android :: Activity Background Processing

Apr 17, 2010

"Note that when you write an activity, you can make it stop or continue running when it is moved to the background (see onStop() in Activity Lifecycle). For activities that download data from the network, it's recommended to let them continue downloading so the user can multi-task." As far as I was aware I had to create a service if I wanted to have a background activity such as a media player, internet download, or processing of data in files on the SD card continue when the activity was no longer in the foreground.I went and reread the onStop information on the "Activity Lifecycle" page, which was referred to. But I didn't find any mention of how an activity might continue to run in the background after onStop was called.

Android :: App Is Getting - Trouble Processing - Error

Aug 10, 2010

My android app was running ok under Eclipse, then I tried to add some GridView sample code from some online examples and now it will not build/run anymore.

I keep getting the major error:

CODE:..

Attempt to include a core VM class in something other than a core library.

I have never put anything to do with 'SocketFactory' in any of my code. I searched all of my code and can't find any code that I did that contains the SocketFactory.class.

I deleted my xml's and classes that I was working on that had to do with the GridView and reverted back to the code I had before, when it was running - but now I continue to get the above error. I even try to use 'Clean' but the error continues. Does anyone know what I should do about this error?

Sprint HTC Hero :: How Superior Is Droid's Processing Power Really / Compared To Hero?

Basically, I'm trying to get an idea of how much of the Droid's better performance is due to its processing power as opposed to its higher (and more efficiently coded, im assuming) Eclair OS.

Android :: Motorola Droid - Poor Accelerometer Performance

Dec 7, 2009

I just got my Motorola Droid and installed my little accelerometer app right away. All it does is registering a SensorEventListener if the user clicks the start button. It also takes the current time in millis. Every time onSensorChanged() is called, a counter gets bumped. After the user presses the stop button, the listener is unregistered and the time taken again. Using the values from above, I get a samplerate of 9 samples/sec which is WAY too low for what I want to do. The delay of the listener is set to SENSOR_DELAY_FASTEST. The Listener is registered within the main activity and is executed on the main thread of the process (I guess).

The G1 we used before was getting samplerates from around 35 samples/ second, which is way better, but still bad. Any suggestions on why the SensorEventListener performs poorly? The system is Android 2.0. App is compiled using API-Level 5.
