Motorola Droid X :: First Time Owner Having Captcha / Gmail Account Error
Oct 30, 2010My mom wanted an Android phone and decided to go with the Droid X. She really likes the phone so far, even though there is a bit of a learning curve. The problem that is frustrating us both is that in order to sign into Google's Android Market place you must enter/confirm your gmail account. We enter her account information, which is 100% correct, and then it brings us to a captcha box. I've entered about 30 different captcha's and each time it starts to connect to Google's servers and then brings us right back to another captcha. There will be clear captcha's and I will be very careful I'm entering the correct characters and then it will still not work.Does anyone have a solution to this? Should I chalk this up as a server problem and wait and try it again tomorrow?I understand this isn't necessarily a Droid X issue as it is an Android 2.2 issue.

Jan 17, 2010I just got my Droid yesterday and so far I'm loving it! I just didn't like my old phone (Samsung Omnia) so decided to upgrade even though it would most likely require me to pay full retail as I'm not that near my contract anniversary and used my NET upgrade last year. I deliberated for a while about waiting for the Nexus One but after reading all the customer support issues with Google and HTC and the mysterious cracked screen issue I decided to go with the Droid. At least that way I know I can get my phone insured and I know I can get good support with a Verizon issued phone.
So I popped in to my local store yesterday expecting to shell out full retail and they gave me the 1-year renewel deal plus I got a little corporate discount from work AND a $100 rebate so ended up only having to pay $229 for the phone, so I was very pleased. That is until when I left the store and did the install for 2.0.1 and the phone wouldn't get past the boot animation. :P So back I went and she got a new one and it decided it only wanted to do setup in Spanish and wouldn't switch nor go past setup so out comes the third phone and all worked fine so now I'm a happy camper! So, now I need to know... what are the must-have applications for this phone? I'm reading through the apps forum for ideas but thought I'd ask here thinking it'd be quicker than poring over tons of posts.
Motorola Droid X :: Manual Deodex
Sep 28, 2010I've successfully done most of the steps to manually deodex. However, when I get to the last step, it says Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

This is what the last step says to do: (and I get stopped with the above message)

HTC Droid Eris :: Contact Owner App
Feb 3, 2010This app allows people to see your contact info in case you lose your phone. Seems like kind of a necessity if you're using the security lock. Otherwise how will people know how to find you?But before you set it up it says the app may cause a crash if you're on an HTC android phone. Question: Has anyone tried this one on the Eris? Do you have any other suggestions for a similar app?

Sep 22, 2010Currently have a droid X with stock 2.1 When I try to manually update I get the msg "Check for update was not available at this time. Try Again later" Have been trying all day This is different from the normal, "you phone is up to date..." Called tech support and they said I need to wait for the update to be pushed to my device, but I know this isnt the case.

Dec 9, 2009I just manually updated to 2.01, and everything went fine on the upgrade, no errors. Seems rather zippy, however now when I open the keyboard and the home screen shift to a horizontal layout, all my home screen icons (and widgets) disappear. On all three home screens. Everything is still there in the "all items" menu on the bottom. I'm not getting any kind of crash indicator, or force close or anything. A reboot brings it back, at least until I open the keyboard again. It's pretty consistent, although it seems I can avoid the problem by not opening the keyboard when it's on the home screen (only doing so when in an app). Never saw this with 2.0. I've googled around and seen other folks having similar problems, but no fixes mentioned, and none specifically referring to 2.0.1.

Oct 10, 2010I think I'll root tonight. Btw, a lot of the guides and threads I see are pre-ota2.2 so i don't know if that's the safest way. So I am going to root using the D2 method here. As I take it there isn't an easier method for the DX right now. Then from there I 1. Select bootstrap recovery 2. Reboot Recovery 3. When the recovery loads, move down and select "backup/restore" select backup. 4. Press camera button after backup to reboot. 5. Find a theme. Put on sd card. Right? Do I need to select bootstrap recovery every time i want to install a new theme before I hit reboot recovery? I know I need rom manager regardless, is it better to backup on RM or Koush? Or both? Titanium backup will save all my apps, even paid apps correct? Is there anyway my titanium backup can be erased? And so all my contacts are automatically backed up to my gmail account or do I do that myself?

Motorola Droid :: Battery Only Lasts 6-7 Hours From Full Charge After Manual 2.2 Install
Aug 14, 2010I manually installed the FRG01B update yesterday. And since doing so, I have noticed a ridiculously steep drop in battery life. Do I need to be running FRG22? Is that available to download manually, if so? I also know that I don't have the version of Facebook that was causing battery drainage. ATK didn't seem to help at all (it might have even made it worse). Is there anything I can do to vastly improve battery life? It would be great if I could get the phone's battery to last at least 24 hours. I already uninstalled ATK, by the way.

"{recipientname}" is replaced by the name of the recipient that I get from the Contacts via Contacts.People.
For convenience, I'd like to replace "{sendername}" with the name of the sender, that means the name of the owner of the phone. (As stored in the email app, under Account Settings -> General Settings -> Your name) So, obviously that name is stored somewhere, ...
My question:
Is there any way to access this name via a content provider ? Or is there any other way to get a string (e.g. "John Doe" ) with the name of the owner/user of the device ?
