Android :: Format And Tools For Music In Games?
Apr 19, 2010
I've been looking around for tools for working with MIDI to create soundfonts, but the one mentioned in the Android JET docs (Awave) is a bit pricey for me. Tried Vienna Soundfont Studio but it quickly told me that I have "no soundfont compatible device" on my laptop. Since I'm coming from a GBA/DS homebrew background, my current solution is using the tracker formats (MOD,XM,IT, etc.) and building libmodplug with the NDK. It allows me to bring the size of the 12 music files in my game down from about 15MB (ogg) to 750KB (mod,xm + libmodplug.so size). Anyway, just wondering how other game developers are handling music and what tools you're using. You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group.

I found the tool monkey and I ve been doing some test with it but there were two things that I could not do. The first is to read the. hprof files that it produces when the -hprof option is set. I tried to process them with the ECLIPSE memory analizer but it did not work. Do you know if there is a program that reads these files? OH and the other feature that I wanted to know if it even existed was if I could set a preestablished order of commands for the monkey to follow or if it only works randomly.

I have an iPhone 5s clone MT6572.
I think I've screwed up my phone. I performed a format with SP Flash tools and flashed a new rom. Stupidly I didn't take a backup of my IMEI number or a proper backup of my rom! . Luckily I found a CWM backup of my MP0B_001 file in my NVRAM folder and have managed to get my IMEI number back!
I have a problem though, I cannot get a mobile network signal but I CAN detect the sim card. It detects the network name and my mobile number but not a signal. Please see the attached image.

I am putting some tunes on there, and notice a lot of my music is in AAC format. It plays just fine, but is MP3 better? When I rip a CD to my computer (old Dell notebook w/ Windows Media or an old iTunes program), I can't figure out a way to convert to MP3s.

I have read a bunch a threads and topics regarding music and Android this for the past several days and haven't exactly seen this answered. My music collection is in ITunes on my computer. I don't know much about the different music formats etc, and when I ripped them all my CD's they are in MP4 format. I do know that what little music I bought from ITunes isn't in the format that doesn't let me play it anywhere else. Most of my music was just ripped from my CDs. I know the Incredible will play the MP4's, so is it OK to leave them that way? I realize they will take up more space, but I'm not sure if I should convert them to MP3's. Also, with them being MP4's, can I still utilize the ringtone apps, or are those for use only with MP3's?

I recently installed Asphalt 5. Apparently, you have to download some stuff in order to play the game. Anyways, I did download it and my problem is, there are sound files that are showing up on my music player. Ex: (raw_000~raw_174) Oh and the sound files are in ".ogg" format. I did some research and I tried the ".nomedia" method, but that didn't work.

How can I listen to music and browse the web/play games/use other apps? Every time I start the music player and then hit home or back, the music stops. I've tried it using the speaker and the headphones. I have seen at some point the music player widget in the notifications bar so I know it can be done, but I just can't find the setting to make it work. Also, how do I access the equalizer?

I am just going through a translation of resource files and I am wondering if there is additional support. At the moment I have both the base strings.xml and the localised version opened parallel in Eclipse. This quite works, but I am thinking of the following tools: - Showing both (or more) versions of a key together - Showing missing keys in a version - Integrating a lookup service (Google Translate, Wikipedia). I didn't find anything like this, is such a tool available?

I'm wondering what the limitations are if we develop the app using Titanium.
What cannot be done using Titanium, for iPhone and for Android?
What things can only be done using only the the native tools?

I'm still pretty new to Android and programming in general, and I can't seem to get the command line tools packaged with the Android SDK to work. I'm running Mac OSX and each time I try to run layoutopt, for example, the terminal returns, *-bash: cmd: command not found. Also, is it okay to have my SDK located in the Developer directory and my android project in some unrelated directory when using these tools?

I have much experience with Java, and am quickly getting to grips with Android. But I have very little experience with graphics... most of my work has been logical, back end web development. The last time I did any proper screen drawing was in the good old days of Applets (years ago).
I can see that Android has a very complex graphical interface, but I don't know where to start. I've looked at some of the sample apps that come with the SDK, but it's slow progress.
For example, I'm trying to learn by developing a simple rolling ball. Currently I'm using onDraw(Canvas canvas), a paint object, and path.addCircle() to draw a circle, which I then update frequently. However the result is jerky, and slow - I want to see it flying around the screen! Clearly this isn't the right way to go about it.
So two questions I suppose: 1) What graphics tools would you recommend to implement my example? 2) Where can I learn more about the graphics capabilities of android?
