In Eclipse I'd like to quickly rebuild and run my app after making changes.
Say the change was in manifest or resources. Now I have to focus with mouse on main java source file, press Ctrl+F11, choose (with mouse or two keys) to Run as Android app.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to just save all, build&run the project as an Android app?

From what information I can gather from the web, android browser shortcuts are comprised of MENU + X combinations. Is there an equivalent for the Eris? I do not see how this works given the lack of a real keyboard. To open the keyboard take a separate action and when holding MENU to then click the appropriate letter, all you get is the menu.

Question: Is there an option (some keyboard or other method) that if I type two a (aa) and phone automatically transforms it to ā. I found that stock android keyboard has shortcuts, but it doesn't change these phrases - they only show them as suggestion.

I've turned off the suggestion bar, auto-completion, and system sound...but still the keyboard is awful. It has been the same way with both of the Captivates that I've had.
Is there a way to customize what comes up instead of the :-) etc. after holding in the , button?

I have a bluetooth mini keyboard* with a built in mouse and I would like to be able to control my tablet from my couch while it is connected to my TV's HDMI. However, I cannot figure out how to do basic tasks with the keyboard. The keyboard is this type: [URL] ......
Also, I'm not sure if the commands are tablet-specific, Android specific, or if they even exist at all. (I have searched XDA and Google, but because I do not know exactly what keywords to use, I am coming up without answers!)
Shortcuts I mainly need:
1-3) The three icons in the lower left of taskbar (they don't appear through HDMI): Back, Home, and the Prev Apps
4) Change homescreens/swipe left and swipe right (I can long click and move the mouse to do this, but it is difficult to do with my mouse since it is a knob type)
5) Long hold
6) Any other commands... heck, let's make a database if it doesnt exist already!
In case it matters: I am using ICS 4.0.3 stock (with root).
Is there anyway to force ListView to rebuild/repaint itself? i.e. re-get item from the ListAdapter (it can be a CursorAdapter or ArrayAdapter) and then repaint the all the list view which are visible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to rebuild libmedia.so from CM10.1 because I want to make some minor modifications for reasons I won't go into detail here because that's a whole other story. I've researched online and it seems I need to use repo sync [URL] .... I tried doing that to get the android source the other day but stopped after 20 min when I realised the entire source tree is around a gigantic 8-10GB. This is bad as I live in Australia where every MB counts and I'm only on a 30GB/month plan!
Which brings me to my first quesiton, how big is the CM 10.1 source tree?
If not too big, I might be able to download it all, but I really only need to rebuild libmedia.so [URL] .... and I think I'll need the source for it's dependencies (from my limited understanding about shared libs). Using arm-eabi-ld with rpath option, I was able to find the dependencies required which are

My second question is how do I go about downloading the minimal amount in order to successfully rebuild libmedia.so?
I have android source code in my system and it works fine. But when I make some changes in android source files and run "make" it doesn't generate/update any files.
i) System should generate a new system.img file if changes have been made to its source code
ii) Android kernel file-zImage file doesn't change with any change even if we make any changes to the source code
Another question if I create a new library folder inside / libcore it gets automatically picked up when compiling. For creating a new library folder outside /libcore i added its path in /build/core/main.mk and .classpath file. Still its not getting picked up during compilation. Can someone please confirm where all we have to make changes for adding a new library file outside /libcore.
Is there any way to remove keyboard shortcuts for a rooted phone? For instance, while texting i sometimes press ALT+DEL and it removes the whole line i was typing. Kind of frustrating. So if there were a way to remove those shortcuts through terminal or modifying files that would be great

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

Open your apps list and just tap and hold an app, it then pops to the homescreen so you can add the shortcut. Found this much quicker than waiting for the apps list to load everytime.

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Bugs:

I've got a HTC Wildfire and in the last couple of days the battery has started draining really quickly. Usually I could leave my phone overnight with wifi and mobile web etc switched off and the battery would drain by a maximum of a couple of percent but now it's losing 25% of its charge overnight with nothing running. Looking at the battery usages since unplugged 3% is phone idle, 4% cell standby and 93% maps!! I haven't even used the maps for a couple of days so what could be causing this? The only apps I've downloaded in the last couple of days are WordUp!, Air Control Lite and Shopping List manager.

Context: Most web-apps are merchant centric and allow for multiple payment types from the customer. But the problem I'm trying to additionally solve is to have, say, a mobile app that is capable of paying as many merchants as possible using your debit, credit or PayPal account. It shouldn't rely on per-merchant technical partnerships to work. It should just be able to talk to any merchant after writing the upfront code. There are a few solutions that come to mind: Integrate with VISA, Mastercard, or PayPal. MyBackup Pro backs them up quickly, but restores them at a rate of less than 1/second. Thus, I have been looking for another tool to back up with:
1. Titanium Backup: no, as the 2.3.5 phone is unrooted;
2. new Windows-based Ultimate Backup Tool: no, as it requires Android 4.0 or greater.
Any recommendations, other than running the restore tool all night? A tool that allowed me to back the SMS up in chronological blocks could be very useful.

I have 50 XML files located on a remote server, one formatted for each state. I am able to read each of the 50 files by selecting a state from a spinner and using a SAX parser but I cannot seem to find out how to pull out information from each file by city. I have tried unsuccessfully to pass a city variable to the characters method of the Handler.
Each state has thousands of records and I am looking for a way to speed up the search since reading the entire file for a state takes several minutes. I used SAX since it was supposed to be the fastest way to read but it limits me in selecting specific information. If I understand things correctly I could use a DOM parser to find my state and city specific data but that would make retrieval even slower.
I am new to Android, being an iOS aficionado who decided to give Android a try.
I am slowly but surely getting the hang of things. One thing, however, has me baffled: how do I quickly search for content on my device ( namely, contacts, apps, calendar entries, etc).
With iOS you merely swipes to the left of the home screen and type in the search box there what you're looking for. How do I do something similar with Android? I've tried the Google gesture search app, but it doesn't seem to bring up results very reliably.

I have a Motorola Droid 2. Is there is way in Google Maps to quickly toggle traffic on and off? And a quick way to clear the map?
On my old Palm I could just hit # to toggle traffic on and off. But on the Droid I have to hit Menu, then layers, then traffic. The same to clear the map. Even opening the keyboard on the Droid2 and hitting alt # does not work.
"Android OS" is using my battery way too fast at 33%.
I'm wondering what is is exactly and tips on saving battery life.

The Contacts app shows a button on the side of the screen that acts as a little thumb to allow you to quickly scroll the big list. I have a very long list that would benefit from this navigation behavior, but can't find any documentation as to how to enable it.
Is it a behavior that's built into the SDK, or must I write it myself?
I can't seem to get anything back from https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ - even accessing from a browser just gives a 404.
