General :: How To Find Individual File On Filesystem Holding Metadata For Email
Jan 14, 2014
I received a Text message sent from an E-Mail and I was wondering if it was possible to find the individual file on the filesystem holding the metadata for the E-Mail.
If so, would I have to root the phone? And where would that file be located?
I'm a techie, so no need to warn me that I could hurt my phone or files - I'm only looking to READ, not WRITE, and I'd be making a copy of that file beforehand anyways and porting it to a PC in order to check it with whatever program is necessary to decrypt (Probably only need a hex editor.)

I am new on android and building an application which uses webservice to collect user information in XML. I also get path for a small jpeg picture of each user. (Currently there are about 200 users) I am parsing the XML and storing the information in SQLiteDatabase. Pictures are stored as blob and able to retrieve them.
I display names of users on listview with images as well. But is this a good solution for storing pictures in SQLite Database ? or should consider storing it in file system ? Which is suitable in terms of performance , as well as memory and any other pro and cons on Android.
Also like to know which is best performing XML parser for Android ?
My purpose is only to parse xml files which I get through web services and sort out the data to store in storage. And lastly my memory goes off easily when I load all images to display in list view after making thumbnails of each (which is obvious).
Was wondering is there any library/framework/app available which dynamically loads images as and when required (when that list item is on display) something like Gallery program ?

Any email app that manages multiple email accounts from any source and posts individual notifications in the notifications drawer - a notification for each email received? Most email apps post one unified notification. I want to be able to mark individual emails as read from the notifications drawer.

In Visual Studio, I can obtain a succinct list of public methods/members exposed in a class for which I do not have the source (i.e. bundled inside a DLL) by pressing F12 (GoToDefinition).
Similarly, I am learning the Android API - in Eclipse. Jumping to an Android framework method definition produces decompilation output which is not intuitive to read, and is very verbose. To mimic results like Visual Studio, I am considering several options:
How can I format the decompilation output to be 'cleaner' - I have looked through Eclipse's preferences menus and have not found a way to do this.
How do I 'add corresponding source files' once Google provides it, so that jumping to definition yields the actual definition?
Is there a plugin that does this already? I looked into Jadclipse, but that project has not been updated in several years, and is still a decompiler.

I am very new to Android (using non-rooted LG Nexus 5) and am having a great problem finding a feature that I depended on regularly with my Blackberry.
I occasionally receive an email from an automated server that indicates an emergency with one of the systems I manage. In Blackberry, I had setup a custom notification based on the email source address, and it would play a custom ringtone (Star Trek Red Alert) at top volume whenever a email from that contact was received. Android only allows custom "ringtones" on a per-contact basis, but these ringtones are only used for phone calls. There is no similar setting for SMS/MMS or Email messages that I can find on Android. I think it is strange that it is not part of the base functionality -- I am beginning to suspect it is a patent issue and it never will be added.
I can't find a good third-party application to provide this additional feature for email.I have tried several and found none adequate (for example, they fail with "Unfortunately has stopped.", they create separate connections to email servers and suck the battery dry, or they are built for SMS/MMS only).

I've set up an email account on my mini pro (NOT gmail or exchange) and it all works fine updating my inbox manually , however, I cant find any settings to automatically retrieve my emails periodically ( as far I can see auto sync refers to gmail or sony sync or road sync for exchange). Is there any way to auto sync an individual email account ?

I have a couple basic questions I'm hoping I can get answered before I start messing around with different ROMs/Radios/Kernels. Before I rooted, when I felt like things were getting cluttered or had an OCD attack, I would do a factory reset. How does that work?
What "source" files are used? Is the emmc directory the only directory not "cleaned" in a factory reset? Keep in mind I'm used to my workstation/laptop experience where I would format, then install a clean version of the OS from a CD/DVD and then I would install 3rd party apps and move my data back?
Any analogies would help my simple mind! One day I did a factory reset, the decided to root. Everything went perfect. I moved some bloatware to an apps.disabled directory, then did all my customizing again. Now I want to play with different ROMs. I do however want to hedge my bets in case I ever want to go back to where I am today. I've done a clockworkmod backup.
Does that essentially copy all the phone storage (except SD Card data) over to the SD Card? If not, what is left behind. Will a clockworkmod wipe erase ALL of the on board phone storage (except the SD Card data)?

Is it possible to access the filesystem of an sdcard image through something like Windows Explorer?
i.e. mount the sdcard as a drive or web folder or something. I have some xml files stored on my sdcard image which I frequently want to edit.
Ideally I would like to be able to edit these files directly using my fave xml editor (either through the filesystem or webdav). But is this possible?
If not, is the only alternative to pull the xml file from the sdcard to the dev machine filesystem, edit and the push it back?

Google Music stores it's my downloaded MP3 music on the internal phone memory on my Nexus4. I don't want to use any other player, I really like how Google Music gives me the best of both worlds, with regards to having my best stuff locally, and all music in the cloud.
However sometimes I want to copy a particular Mp3 from my phone to my computer. All the files are randomly numbered xxx.mp3, so I can't see which file is what track in MP3 explorer.
Any app that can browse a system directory (on a rooted phone), and show all the Mp3 metadata and allow copying of that file?

I am unable to find any tar / md5 files of the stock rom for VM & Sprint Intercept. Yes, I am looking for both carries of that phone. The reason I need the tar file of the stock rom is because the sprint phone can't flash anymore roms through the customer recovery [InXane CM01] and the Virgin Mobile phone is stuck at the black screen [SemiBrick / SoftBrick].
I have tried google searches, but most return me to dead links or that damn mirror website multiupload, SDX forums' search is down? & google's search can't connect to the webpages on sdx forums, I have tried with three different browsers on SDX forums, and google file search doesn't return anything. Any links containing the desired tar/md5 files.I need to find tar files of the following.
FB01 [Phone:Sprint / Version: Android 2.2.3]
Dl05 [Phone: Sprint / Version: Android 2.2]
EC07 [Phone: Virgin Mobile / Version: Android 2.2.2]
DI06 [Phone: Virgin Mobile / Version: ...]
The only thing I can find that is worth while is the link below. I was able to download the tar files, BUT I am unable to connect to the original SDX Forum webpages. This is troubling, because I don't know what the status of the tar files are and if they are stable or working or if they will cause more troubles.
However through some google searches, I found this. The tar file is Android 2.1 Eclaire [FD27] for Sprint phones.
Returning to stock with SWUpgrade in a tar format. [Link here] NOTE: I did not install the update, Android 2.2 Froyo, because the link is dead. However installing custom ROMs from this point does NOT require it. Confirmed this on Stock on Crack 1.1.2. OR SDX Forums > Samsung Intercept > Intercept - Android 2.2 > Intercept - Development 2.2 > [ROM] [EC07] [DL05] [FB01] StockROM on Crack 1.1.2 (9.0+ MFLOPS!)
I believe the VM Intercept stockROMs works as well. When testing it on the phone, it was able to fix the soft-brick. However, I believe my phone's LCD screen is broken. I can hear all the setup sounds and feel the vibrates from the phone and even click on random menu options, but I can only see a black screen with a soft backligh to it. Sometimes the screen turns white, but nothing else appears on it. Bad LCD screen right?

how to find permissions a given application has. Each app is run as a certain user, so wouldn't finding the file permissions of an app be the same as finding the file permissions of a user? On Linux/Unix there is the find command but I don't know of any alternative command that is available on android. I am running KitKat 4.4.2 kernal 3.40-gadb2201.

I've searched to no prevail. id like to start developing apps but am having issues getting the environment set up. I have the jdk properly installed.
issue 1 (main major ):
I've installed the android sdk from multiple sources, but when i try to start sdk tools, the command prompt flashes/ opens briefly and i get this message:
"Failed to execute toolsandroid.bat: The system cannot find the file specified."
Do i need to change a PATH variable or something...
I cannot get eclipse to run. when i try to open the exe file ( because there is no short cut icon...?) it gives a message about not finding a companion library... ive try to change the properties in the file that is supposed to fix it, but it was already set the way its supposed to be. this is not major as i can use a different IDE.
so im completely lost as to th sdk tool. I just tried adding the file path to the android sdk ( PATH variable) and it still did not work... I also just tried start the android, bat file and the cmd promt flashes briefly saying somthing about xcopy is not an operable command...etc couldn't read all of it... I am on windows 7 home premium

I went to the Verizon Store to find out why my battery was not holding a charge for more than 4 - 5 hours. They checked it out, downloaded a battery saver app and sent me on my way stating my phone was no longer under warranty. Then my phone would not hold any charge, I again went to the Verizon store and was told there was nothing they could do. I went to Battery Warehouse to see if they could change the battery, they could not. So, I decided, since it was out of warranty I would removed the battery myself and see if I could order a new one. Well that was another problem because noone knows how to reinstall a battery once you open the back and take it out. So now I am going to activate my Droid 3 and use it until I update to an Iphone in August.

I am able attach file from external storage sdcard while emailing the same using getExternalStorageDirectory as sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse("file://"+Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/ zibra.txt"));
But while trying to attach file from the openOutputFile stored area using sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse("file://"+ getFilesDir() + "/zibra.txt"));, resulting emptied file emailing.
My file is stored in "/data/data/com.example/files/zibra.txt".
