I have an application which has 11 different activities. One of these activities is an extension of MapActivity (it is a map for data visualization). To get to this activity the user must first travel through the launch activity, then 3 other activities.
The code to launch the MapActivity is:
CODE:..............
When this is executed I get the following output from the Log:
CODE:.......
I do have the target set to Google APIs, this is an app meant for Android 1.5, and specifies the minsdk to be level 3 in the manifest file. uses-library for maps is also in manifest file.
CODE:..........
I have been at this for almost 2 days now with no results. It seems that there are a lot of people having issues launching a MapActivity from other activities but there are no solutions anywhere.

I am writing an application and due to various reasons I had to build it using make (froyo code) and not SDK. When I run my app on emulator it works fine. I have an Android device and code to build image for the device. When I build my app with device code, it builds fine. How ever, when I run the application, I get
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
<package.class> in loader dalvik.system.PathClassLoader[.]
A source file in my code is actually doing
sourceClass = classLoader.loadClass(sourceName);
sourceName here is pointing to a class I actually build (I have classname.java file in my code under correct package directory and package name). Note that this app is running fine on emulator, but on a device it is failing.
I verified that the .class file exists in out/target/common/obj/APPS/ xxxApp_intermediates/classes.jar, classes-full-debug.jar, classes-full- names.jar

I'm installing the Android SDK on a fresh installation of Fedora 14 (Linux).
I installed eclipse, and ran the tools/android sdk tool to install all the Eclipse components for the SDK.
I was able to get DDMS to install when selecting it by itself.
And for the last component - the Android developer tools, I'm getting the ugly error message pasted below.
Now I'm Stuck in Eclipse dependency hell.
I've searched through the available packages in Fedora and I can't find the one that has the files necessary to satisfy this Eclipse dependency...
Can anybody please translate what it is that Eclipse is asking for and what Fedora package it lives in?
The error:
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.

The error I receive is, "android.content.ActivityNotFoundException: Unable to find explicit activity class {com.droidea.birthday/ EditBirthdayActivity}; have you declared this activity in your AndroidManifest.xml?"
The error seems simple enough, but I don't see a problem with the way I have identified this activity in my manifest file. I have also been unable to see any problems with the activity class itself..............

When launching my app from within Eclipse, sometimes the running emulator is found and displayed in the launch dialog, sometimes it isn't?! Killing adb, the emulator and Eclipse usually helps until it happens again. Any idea why this is? I see this behavior since the launch of Android. I am running on Mac OS X. And it happened on Leopard as well as Snow Leopard.

I'm having a lot of difficulty installing the ADT plug in under Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo)... I have tried both http and https access to the Eclipse update site, and in both cases I get the following errors:
An error occurred while collecting items to be installed: No repository found containing: binary,org.eclipse.jdt_root, 3.5.1.r351_v20090810-0600-7r88FEoFI0WTo6Az-1qFRHm37ChJ (second line repeated about 20x for various missing files)
I found a post (http://tinyurl.com/yc2cr28) where removing/re-adding the source URL in Eclipse is also recommended. This didn't help the "No repository found" errors.
Has anyone else experienced/resolved this issue? I am running the "Eclipse for Java Developers" from Eclipse.org, and the Sun Java 5 JDK.

I've noticed that then I use "clean" from Eclipse project menu on my project I receive following error
[2009-02-19 09:55:02 - MyListView] no classfiles specified [2009-02-19 09:55:02 - MyListView] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1
Project doesn't use any external jars and rather simple. If I uncheck build automatically and build it - it builds and runs just fine. I'm on MacOSX 10.5.6 and JDK 1.6.0_07. And latest android SDK ( android-sdk-mac_x86-1.1_r1.zip 79046151 bytes becf0f1763d61eedce15d2a903d6c1dd )

In Visual Studio, I can obtain a succinct list of public methods/members exposed in a class for which I do not have the source (i.e. bundled inside a DLL) by pressing F12 (GoToDefinition).
Similarly, I am learning the Android API - in Eclipse. Jumping to an Android framework method definition produces decompilation output which is not intuitive to read, and is very verbose. To mimic results like Visual Studio, I am considering several options:
How can I format the decompilation output to be 'cleaner' - I have looked through Eclipse's preferences menus and have not found a way to do this.
How do I 'add corresponding source files' once Google provides it, so that jumping to definition yields the actual definition?
Is there a plugin that does this already? I looked into Jadclipse, but that project has not been updated in several years, and is still a decompiler.

I am trying to add an 'Android Library project' I have created to another regular Android project. The Library Project had a jar dependency and was also dependent on another java project in my workspace. I had to add both of these to the my 'regular Android project' because otherwise Eclipse could not find them (Not sure if this was the right thing to do because it would mean that I will have to manually update all projects when the library gets another jar dependency). Anyway, the errors went away and now the Regular Android Project can't find the R class, I have tried a clean but it did not work. I checked in the /gen folder and both the R classes are there - from the library and the regular project.They have the correct strings inside them.

I don't understand, do I need to create another class? Or do the AnimationDrawables just not go in the filename.java?
And if I do need to create another class, can you show me how?

When I try to run it, it says, "Your project contains error(s), please fix them before running your application."You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group.

Basically I've been playing around with developing Android apps and I was editing one earlier. I changed my main.xml file and when I went back to my class that runs the app all references to the "R" class were broken. I looked in the "gen" folder (Generated Java Files) and saw that the class was completely gone from the solution.
I had been debugging not 5 minutes before and didn't have any problems doing so. The only things I had done since debugging were moving 2 files from the "drawable-hdpi" folder to the assets folder and I had edited the "main.xml" file.
I've tried cleaning the project and restarting Eclipse but neither of those ideas worked.

I'm using Eclipse to learn to develop Android applications in Java. I haven't used Eclipse before.The project I'm trying to use (supplied by OReilly as part of 'Android Application Development') is MJAndroid. When attempting to run the project, the Run fails, and the Problems tab mentions com.java.Object can't be found, and Eclipse asks me to check the build path. Clicking Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries, the message 'Unable to get system library for the project' is displayed.On a working project, Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries has an entry for Android 1.1, which if I click Edit, has the classpath container path of com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.ANDROID_FRAMEWORK.It seems a simple matter of adding the correct container path to my non-working project. However Eclipse seems determined to make this as difficult as possible. No matter what I chose to add - jars, externals jars, variables, libraries, class folders, external class folders, nothing seems to take the form of 'com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.ANDROID_FRAMEWORK' that the 'Android 1.1' entry on the working app has.

I'm just getting into Android development, and I have a question about communicating between a receiver class and an activity class. I'm very new to JAVA and Android so I hope I don't sound too stupid. I'm developing an application where I intercept an SMS message and then based on various elements of that SMS I might delete it once it's been saved to the inbox. I have a receiver class that intercepts the txt message, and I am also able to delete messages from my inbox with code in the activity class using a button at the moment. The problem I have is communicating between the receiver class and the activity class where the code to delete a message resides. I tried putting that code directly into the receiver class but as I'm sure most of you already know the BroadcastReceiver class doesn't seem to support what I need to delete messages. I've been searching for an answer to this for a while, but haven't been able to find anything. Honestly I'm not sure I know enough about JAVA and Android to even recognize a solution if I saw it.

I'm new to Java and android development. In my application I need data which is accessible for a few activities. I've read that a good solution is to use Application class for this. So I use it like this:
public class MyApplication extends Application {
private String str;
public String getStr(){
return str;
}
public void setStr(String s){
str = s;
}
}
and I can access this variable from activity like this:........................................

I'm having problems getting a MapActivity to work on 1.5r2. As far as I can tell I've done everything I need to do, but what am I missing? The Google Maps key was generated on the Google Maps website using the Debug keystore at the location in my Android setup.
What does "Unable to resolve superclass of Lcom/bgies/truckerphonetest/DirectionActivity;" actually mean? As far as I can tell, the activity is setup properly.... At least it is setup exactly the same way I have other activities setup... with the exception that it's the only activity that has a mapView in it.
I can't run it either on my G1 or the emulator... so I assume it's something I am doing wrong. The project setup does have the Google APIs [Android 1.5], and the AVD for the emulator does show the target as Google APIs when I select it.
From my Android Manifest :

I want to add a MapActivity in an ActivtyGroup. As only single level inheritance is supported, my class can either extend from either MapActivity or ActivityGroup. As far as I know MapActivity is not a part of ActivityGroup. I want an activity to extend MapActivty as well be a part of an ActivityGroup.

I've got an app using MapActivity.onCreate() to initialize the map and show it on screen. Now I would like to add a menu to my app. From what I've found out I can't add a menu from MapActivity and need to use Activity (correct me if I'm wrong).
Now I have no idea how to "initialize" the map from my Activity-class.
And how would I have to fix the views, will I wrap my activity-layout around my Map-layout?
