Android :: Dialog WindowBackground Makes Parent Window Go Black / Make It Visible?

Aug 5, 2009

I wanted to change the frame around my Dialog. So I set up a style...

And yay! I get my new frame. However, the parent window disappears (goes black).

Having a normal dialog: <activity android:name=".MyActivity" android:theme="@android:style/ Theme.Dialog"> keeps the parent window visible.

Can I have a custom frame on a dialog and keep the parent window visible?

For example I have a relativelayout that fills the full screen, and I want a child view, say an imageview, to take up the whole height, and 1/2 the width? I've tried overriding all on onMeasu onLayout onSizeChanged etc and I couldn't get it working....

Motorola Droid X :: Beautiful Widgets Background Wrong Size

Jul 29, 2010

I just bought Beautiful Widgets 3.0 off of App market and have been trying to add the Beautiful Home Weather widget on my home screen. However, no matter which weather skin I choose, the weather images are running off of the background on the bottom as if the background image is not long enough. I tried a few skins, but they all look the same. Is there an option I need to toggle or something?

Android :: Market Reporting Wrong Application Size

Jul 7, 2010

I've just released an update to my app and the apk file is 3.5mb on my system. It is reported as 3.5mb in the developer console. But in the market it is showing up as 7.02mb. I'm now getting comments that that app is too big and I feel people may not purchase it if they think it will take up 7mb of space.

Android :: Programatically Set Dialog Size?

I want do set size (in px) of dialog based on screen resolution, so I have to set dialog size programatically during runtime.

Dialog layout is defined in xml with all standard views, so it would be nice to have better way to set dialog size than override-in top view's onMeasure(...).

Android :: Make An Alert Dialog Fill 90% Of Srceen Size?

Feb 21, 2010

I can create and display a custom alert dialog just fine but even so I have android:layout_width/height="fill_parent" in the dialog xml it is only as big as the contents.

What I want is dialog that fills the entire screen except maybe a padding of 20 pixel.
Then the image that is part of the dialog would automatically stretch to the full dialog size with fill_parent.

Android :: Scale Image To Maximum Size In Dialog-style Activity

Nov 24, 2010

I have an activity which uses android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog". The activity contains an ImageView which can show images of different dimensions. The ImageView should scale the Image so that it entirely fits into the window, at least on axes fits entirely and maintains the original aspect ratio. The size of the dialog should only be as large as the ImageView (plus its border width).

I tried the following but the dialog window always uses the whole available space:

Android :: How To Repeat Login Dialog And Progress Dialog?

Jan 25, 2010

I am having a problem about repeating Login dialog (an AlertDialog) and progress dialog, coordinating with http thread. I suppose repetitive Login dialog (if fail, continue) handling should be common and straightforward. I guess my approach must be wrong somewhere. I already spent 2 days on this and am desperate. So please help. User starts the app, the main activity starts.Show a login dialog (generated by the main thread, i.e. from on Create. The main thread then starts a wait_thread, which will wait for http to return data and check the data and decide what to do.After user input username/password and press login, a progress dialog starts. The progress dialog starts an http_thread to talk to the server and get replies. Once done, it will notify the waiting thread. If the user type in the right username password first time, the code works fine. But it always fail for 2nd time Login, i.e. When first login fail(wrong username/ password),the wait_thread will generate 2nd Login dialog to let user repeat the login process. But after user hit the login on this 2nd Login dialog, the system always crashes.

Motorola Droid : Font Size And A Spell Checker - Imposiible To Read Small Font Size In Emails Or Text Messages

Dec 26, 2009

This is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc.

However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is imposiible to read the small font size in emails or text messages.

1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client.

2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller.

I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these isuues will eventually be addressed.

Android :: Showing Dialog After Another Dialog Hangs

Sep 2, 2010

I have a really weird problem, which I am unable to debug so far. thing is. my app needs to download something to work. So in the beginning of the onCreate() method, I check if that something is already downloaded. If not, I pop a dialog up asking the user to download it.My dialog is shown and I am clicking, so aManager.install() is called. I am passing the context because that aManager.install() pops up a ProgressDialog to show downloading progress and spawns a new thread in which everything is downloaded. So obviously before creating my dialog I make a Handler to receive the response from that aManager.install(). And the response MAY vary, because for example the internet connection isn't available (Exception raised and catched and listener called with different code). Now, when that happens (Exception) I would like to call another dialog saying "something went wrong, would you like to retry?" so another call to showDialog(DIALOG_REINSTALL) (this time with another code).thing is the showDialog() gets called (I can verify this by logging) but the dialogs doesn't show up. Instead my application JUST HANGS Does someone have a clue why it's doing this? No exception raised, absolutely nothing from logcat, I can't tell WHERE it's hanging...just see that the method is called and the dialog should be displayed.

Android :: How Do I Make My Image View Fixed Size Regardless Of Size Of Bitmap

Sep 23, 2010

So I'm loading images from a web service, but the size of the images are sometimes smaller or bigger than other images and the visualization looks silly when I put them in a ListView in android. I'd like to fix the size of my ImageView so that it only shows a portion of the image if it's larger than a preset amount. I've tried everything I can think of setting the setMaxWidth/setMaxHeight, setting the scale type to centerCrop, using ClipableDrawable wrapping my BitmapDrawable, setting using Drawable.setBounds(). I've tried setting in the XML and programmatically, but neither worked. I'm very surprised setting max width/height didn't do anything. Below is the XML I'm using ImageView definition in my layout file

Android :: About Size Of Resource Assets Files & Final Apk Size

Oct 2, 2009

I am using a self-provided sqlite database ( > 50mb ) . I tested that once the built .apk size exceeds ~30mb the app will not be installed onto the simulator (INSTALL_FAILED_ INSUFFICIENT _STORAGE). Could anyone confirm me that if up until now there is no way to embed such large size files in a single apk ( Aimed to sell at Google Market without requiring user to download datafile afterwards). Also, is there a limitation of 1,048,576 bytes for a single file in the assets folder ?
