I am using SAXParser to parse an html page (any better solution?) and have this exception:
W/System.err( 1358): org.apache.harmony.xml.ExpatParser $ParseException: At line 1, column 59: not well-formed (invalid token)
I have reduced the page to this:
<div id="submenu"><a href="/compte/console.pl? id=382730&idt=1cf6b94aa1a4cf84"></a></div>
And what causes the exception is the '&' inside the href attribute value.
Here is a minimalist test code:
DefaultHandler emptySaxHandler = new DefaultHandler() {};
String xmlstr = "<div id="submenu"><a href="/compte/console.pl?id=382730&idt=1cf6b94aa1a4cf84"></a></div>";
SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
SAXParser saxParser = factory.newSAXParser();
saxParser.parse(new ByteArrayInputStream(xmlstr.getBytes ()),emptySaxHandler);
Is this a normal behaviour or kind of bug? If normal, what should do to preprocess the string before parsing?

I'm testing how my app behaves when killed by the OS due to low memory conditions. I always have three activities on the stack, like: A B C (then C launches maps or some other heavy process)
when my app is killed, and I return to it, C starts itself up again ok. When I hit the back button to go to B, I [sometimes] get an exception thrown which I can't trace. Output is below. I don't know where to go from here. I've only seen one other post mentioning this exception, but it was related to a reproducable error when rotating the device. This only happens sometimes.

I currently have a ListView being filled by a custom Adapter with content it gets from a JSON string on a web page. The ListView's row layout is a LinearLayout that has two things in it, one AdMob layout and one TextView. The AdMob layout's visibility is by default set to Gone.What I want to do make every 5th row's AdMob layout visible. The current way I am doing this is by Overriding getView in my custom adapter (something I already had programmer to get my rows to have alternating colours), within this I keep track of the position variable and see if I have moved down 5 rows yet. When I have I find the AdView object and set it to visible. This works fine for a while but for some reason as I scroll down more on my list the ads become every other instead of every five. This doesn't make any sense to me because I have set up logcat to tell me when it reaches my "make ad visible code" and according to that I should not be having double ads. Has this happened to anyone else before? I'm not quite sure how to handle this situation.

I am creating an Android app that includes a third party jar. That third party jar utilizes internal logging that is failing to initialize when I run the app, with this error: "org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: No suitable Log implementation".
The 3rd party jar appears to be using org.apache.commons.logging and to depend on log4j, specifically log4j-1.2.14.jar. I have packaged the log4j jar into the Android app. The third party jar was packaged with a log4j.xml configuration file, which I have tried packaging into the app as an XML resource (and also as a raw resource).
The "No suitable Log implementation" error message is not very descriptive, and I have no immediate familiarity with Java logging. So I am looking for likely causes of the problem (what class or configuration resources might I be missing?) or for some debugging technique that will result in a different error message that is more explicit about the problem. I do not have access to source code for the 3rd party jar.
Here is the exception stack trace. When I run the app, I get the following exception as soon as one of the third party jar classes attempts to initialize its internal logging. code...

I have a ListView containing a few different type of items, all having their own background image and font color. In my first implementation I implemented each type of item as its own layout with the background image etc defined in XML (and implemented Adapter.getView() so that it only reuses convertView if it's of the correct type). This works fine but the performance is not that great while scrolling since I'm inflating quite a few Views due to convertView mismatches, so instead I tried using the same layout for all items (to benefit fully from convertView reuse) and changing the background image and font size in runtime. I even keep the three background Drawables I need as members to save time decoding them from a resource for each item, and call View.setBackgroundDrawable() from Adapter.getView(). The problem is, sometimes the 9-patch is not correctly wrapped around the content of the list item when using this approach. While scrolling it usually looks correct but when the scrolling stops, or sometimes when I just tap anywhere on the list, the background 9-patch of some large items starts flickering and is either cropped or resized to its original PNG size rather than stretched to wrap the content.
First of all, I suspect this is a bug? Any ideas why this happens? Could it be that the View is not always measured to reflect the changed content when the 9-patch is applied? I have tried adding an extra call to View.invalidate() but it doesn't solve the problem. Second, does this approach sound reasonable at all, or how should I go about to optimize this scenario?

I use this code in my getView:
@Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View v = convertView;
if (v == null) {
LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater)getSystemService
(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
v = vi.inflate(R.layout.listrow, null);
}
Order o = items.get(position);
if (o != null) {
TextView tt = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.toptext);
ImageView thumb = (ImageView) v.findViewById(R.id.icon);
if(o.getOrderDrawable()!=null){
thumb.setImageDrawable(o.getOrderDrawable());
}
else{
tt.setText(o.getOrderTitle());
}
}
return v;}
The problem is when scrolling; sometimes the correct image shows, but sometimes when scrolling back/forward, the images shows randomly and that is not associated with the row. The images are downloaded from the web.

I have a ListView that can have one or more clickable items. When I apply a rotate animation the coordinates that are clicked correspond to the original position of the ListView items. For example a list with one item in portrait mode rotated 180 degrees will have the item upside down on the bottom of the screen, but the item gets the click event when I click the top of the screen. 180 degrees is just an example I want to be able to move an arbitrary angle.
I've looked through all the listView properties but none seem to have any effect on the clickable coordinates. I would assume willChangeTransformationMatrix would do the trick but it doesn't, neither does invalidate or invalidateViews. Is there a property I'm overlooking or how would I go about moving the coordinates to the right place?
sample code- list items highlight correctly when clicked, rotate with dpad_center, after rotated items highlight when original position is clicked. I've tried animating the animation, animationSet, and layoutAnimationController all same result.

The problem is that when I filter the list the entries switch position in the list view. Take for example three entries: 'A', 'B' and 'C' where 'C' is checked beforehand (i.e. the entry at position 3 in the list). When I type a 'C' on the keyboard, only the 'C' entry is displayed (as intended). Now 'C' is not checked anymore, since the entry has moved from the checked position 3 to the unchecked position 1 in the list.This behavior leads to some not very welcome effects in the app. Is there a way to "move the selection with the filtering", i.e. bind the checked state to the entry and not to its initial position in the list? Or do I need to find a new approach?

I am a very green android developer and need some help with a strange program crash. Often the program will run just fine. There is an equal chance it will fail (see stack at the end). I can watch the program run through the getView function and everything seems in order (i.e. all the information is there as expected and passes through convertView seemingly fine). Either it will go through a few times and then program will be A-OK or it will fail as seen below and I have not been able to pick out what causes the crash. Even stranger is that if I hold the phone in landscape mode, it will never fail!! It only fails about 50% of the time in portrait orientation.

I have a list of 70 text items with image icons(which are stored in drawables folder).
If I launch application the first time and scroll the list slowly - the exception doesn't occur.
When the application is launched the first time and I scroll the list with 'fling' action the following exception occurs:
COD:.....................
After that, if I kill the application with DDMS, start it again and scroll it with 'fling' action, exception doesn't occur. So the exception arises only if application is installed and launched the first time.
Here is the adapter I use for the list:

Is there a way to avoid the exception? Should I catch the exception and escape the memory somehow?

The way I want it is, per row there will be a text and is followed by a right arrow button, so that the user can click on that button to edit the content of that row. If the user is using the keypad, by using the left and right buttons on the keypad, he should be able to select the textview or the Button in that particular row. I have seen this in a couple of apps. The way I see that working on those apps appear as if they are maintaining two lists in parallel.
The reason i felt it this way is, if I am on row 1 of the list and if I press the right key on the phone keypad, then the right arrow button will get highlighted and now if I use the down key or if I keep pressing the down key, then the focus will scroll through that arrow button only as if that is an another parallel list constructed. I don't know if that is a good way to do it. I tried many for getting this to work, but couldn't succeed.

I have a listview from an SQLDatabase using custom CursorAdaptor. I would like to go back to the activity that I used to create the items when I click on them in the listview. So that I can edit the entries. But nothing happen when I implement the OnItemClick method and the getItemId() on the CursorAdapter even though am not sure I am correct there. Here is my Code:
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapview, View view, int position, long rowId) {
Cursor c = adapter.retrieveRow(rowId); // retrieve row from Database
Intent edit = new Intent(this,NewItem.class);
edit.putExtra(DBAdapter.KEY_ID, rowId);
edit.putExtra(DBAdapter.Title, c.getString(c.getColumnIndex(DBAdapter.Title)));
edit.putExtra(DBAdapter.DATE, c.getString(c.getColumnIndex(DBAdapter.DATE)));
startActivity(edit); } public long getItemId(int id){ return id; }

I've got the following main.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <AbsoluteLayout
android:id="@+id/widget0" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<ListView android:id="@+id/listview" android:layout_width="315px"
android:layout_height="379px" android:layout_x="2px" android:layout_y="50px" >
</ListView> <TextView android:id="@+id/title" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Select device:" android:textSize="17sp"
android:layout_x="-2px" android:layout_y="1px" >
</TextView> <Button android:id="@+id/refresh" android:layout_width="109px"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Refresh" android:layout_x="209px android:layout_y="7px" >
</Button> </AbsoluteLayout>
The main class does nothing but drawing the layout. I've got the following class and layout for the listitems:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" >
</TextView> package com.android.bluetoothp2p;
import android.app.ListActivity; import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View; import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter;
import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TextView;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class BTListView extends ListActivity {
@Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, COUNTRIES)); ListView lv = getListView();
lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
// When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), ((TextView) view).getText(),
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } ); }
Countries is just an array with a list of countries, some dummy values. Now, how do I make the list items of the BTListView class go in the ListView (with @+id/listview) of the main class? Now my list works, but it isn't clickable anymore. This is the code:
ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true);
lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
// When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "lolwat", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
} } );

1) I am developing my app in Eclipse 3.4.1 with Android (ver 1.1_r1) plugin. My app compiles and executes without errors when using the Eclipse IDE.
However, when I export my app (unsigned) using Eclipse (via {select project} >right-click>Android tools>export unsigned application package), sign it, and try to run it on the Emulator, it throws a runtime error when I try to update my sqlite database, at which time the specific error created is: SQLite error#14, unable to open database. It is able to read from the database without problems. (I have also verified that the database is: open, is not readonly, is not locked by another thread, is not in the middle of a transaction.)
I have limited experience, but this seems more like a "system" problem given that the app works OK in Eclipse IDE but then fails as an exported/signed apk. Some googling of SQLite resources revealed a similar error on a non-Android platform which was fixed by: "Set your permissions correctly on /var/tmp, or whatever directory you are using to hold temporary files".
Does Android have temporary files, and if so how does it handle permissions on temporary files? Is there a way to check or set these permissions to see if this fixes my problem here?
2) Not sure if it is related, but after I have run the exported/signed app which causes the runtime error, if I reboot the Emulator, and try to run the program using the Eclipse IDE , the program fails with the same exact error. PLUS I also noticed the following error message while the program is installing/running: 03-01 22:22:29.282: ERROR/PackageManager(53): Package com.northwestradiology has mismatched uid: 0 on disk, 10019 in settings; read messages:
I can restore the Eclipse version of my program to be able to execute without runtime errors by utilizing the -wipe-data option for the emulator. But note that if I run my signed APK using an emulator created with the -wipe-data option, it still throws the runtime error listed above...
