Android :: Dialing IVR Systems / Sending DTMF Tones After A Call Is Made
Sep 8, 2009
I am writing an application that calls IVR Systems. For example a Customer Service line where 3 or 4 options or the telephone number must be sent after the call is made. I don't remember where but I remember that if you were to put in comma's , it would be a pause so I am trying to dial a number such as "tel:555555,0,2,3" which should dial 55555 then it should send 0 with a pause then 2, pause, and then 3. I have seen a discussion similar to what I want to do... http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... I am testing with a HTC Hero, and when it starts dialing, I can hear the first tone being sent when its dialling, in the above case I hear a 5, and then the dialler crashes and drops back to my application. Code...

One feature which i did not fiund on the Android 2.0 is the ability to send DTMF tones during a call using the contacts list. Whilst on a call i would like to be able to select contacts and send that contact as a DTMF tone. I've sean all the different dialler apps. but nothing allows you to select from the contacts list.Is this a feature upcoming in the Android OS updates or is there already an app. that anyone knows about that allows this feature, which is common on all other mobile os's?

I have an application that calls a number stored by the user. Everything works okay unless the number contains commas or hash signs, in which case the Uri gets truncated after the digits. I have read that you need to encode the hash sign but even doing that, or without a hash sign, the commas never get passed through. However, they do get passed through if you just pick the number from your contacts. I must be doing something wrong. Code...

I've had two HTC hero's on T-Mobile, and on my old one I used to be able to check the time I made or received a call on the 'call history' display. I had that phone stolen and got a replacement that is identical but running newer software, I think. All is great, except for the fact that it no longer displays the time a call was made or received in the history. I see this as a very important feature to have on a phone, so how can I get it to work properly? At present it just says the date - no time.

Does anyone know how you get the information of a call up ?
The time you made it, length ect.
When you press the call button it only comes up with the number and if it is outgoing/incoming/missed.

I downloaded iSkoot, the Skype application for Android. Made an overseas Android to computer call, which was a bit choppy over wi-fi, and then tried calling an overseas landline. To my surprise, iSkoot dialed a 1877 number which, using Skype credit, routed my call over the net to the end number. I wonder why is iSkoot dialing when I call a landline? In effect this is no different than, say, a Net2Phone card. Did T-Mobile restrict it? And then I thought it was a bit hypocritical of T-Mobile to get worked up about VoIP apps when it markets the HotSpot@Home service, which does the same to you landline carrier.

Cannot figure out how to STOP Droid from redialing a BUNCH of times my last call made -- when I have the VErizon bluetooth hooked up.
Frustrating & embarrassing!
Suspected bluetooth getting "pressed" when stuffed in my purse - bur can't replicate (make it happen on purpose.)
Have tried changing settings - no luck.
Something about putting Droid & bluetooth in purse makes 6 redials +++ happen.

I'm probable being very stupid but despite trawling the forum and looking though the PDF manual I can't see how to enter tones during a call. EG for menu options.
Hitting "Menu" during a call severs the call (is it supposed to do this?).
There is a grid icon on the bottm of the screen which I thought was the one I wanted.

Is it possible to initiate an outgoing call without having the phone invoke it's default dialing screen? The point is to be able to make a call without someone knowing I'm making a call.

I'm trying to write a convenience app that needs to bring up the active dialer for a connected call, but I'm having issues after trying a couple of approaches.
ACTION_DIAL - I've tried starting a new dialing activity and while this brings up a new dialer, it's not connected to the existing call so pressing buttons on the new dialer produces no dial tones on the receiver's end.
ToneGenerator - Created my own little dialer activity and hooked up ToneGenerator calls in response to button clicks, but then found out that it only generates tones in the dialer's earpiece and not on the receiver's side.
So... Is there any way to programmatically send dial tones to an active call? Any way to bring up the dialer of the active call and not the dialer for a new call?

I've had the Hero about a week now, and keep finding that whenever I'm in the dialler app, I press the big green 'Call' button by mistake.I don't like that the fact that it's highlighted as soon as you enter the app via 'Phone' on the homescreen, and it looks like it defaults to the last caller. Is there anyway to change this? Ideally I don't want it to be highlighted until I've selected a contact to call.

I am wondering if I have a software problem. I have tried everything to shut off the haptic feedback when dialing a number to make a call. Haptic is shut off for the 4 main buttons at the bottom of the screen and it is off for text typing, but it will just not shut off for dialing phone numbers. Am I missing something here?

noticed something weird with KitKat, and confirmed this on two different phones (Nexus 5 and Moto G but running latest KitKat 4.4.2). On occasion (not every time) the phone seems to auto dial someone after you've ended a call with someone else.
My wife reported the problem first with her Moto G. At first I thought she might just be accidentally hitting a button after calling someone (this is her first smart phone and first touch screen phone) but it's happened several times for her. Final catch was today when I clearly had it happen to me (it also appears it may have happened before once or twice on my phone). I had called someone using my bluetooth in my car, at the end of the call I pushed the hangup button on the steering wheel, and the call ended. Then my wife picked up the phone to call another person and we both noticed it was calling some other friend of ours (that I had txt'd with maybe 2 hours before). It had just started calling this person for no reason. We quickly ended the call (hopefully it didn't bug them), but wow is that annoying.
It seems to happen every once in a while right after hanging up with another call. It seems to call someone in either your recent call or txt history. I'm not sure what might trigger it as it doesn't happen every time, and I'm not sure what number it chooses to call (though it does appear to be someone you recently called or txt'd).

Have the phone. Went through all the fun of finding my own prefered ring tone - well I made it from a song, and another ring tone for other uses.
Set them up, set the "Message" tone, set the alarm tone and all was good.
It wasn't long after that I bought a SANDISC8 gig SD card.
Coppied ALL files over and swapped the cards.
I am not sure exactly WHEN the problem started, but it still exists.
Now and then the phone is in my pocket and it starts making a sound. It isn't one I selected, so ignore it until it becomes obvious it is mine as no-one else is talking on their phone.
I look and it is a message/phone call/alarm.
They are NOT the ones I set. So I go through the process of seting them back to what I like.
Someone says it could be a dicky SD card. I shall test that soon by putting back the original one and seeing what happens. The only problem with that is that it is SO INTERMITANT that it is hard to know if it is or not really the problem.

In the root of your SD card create the following folders
Notifications
Ringtones
Alarms
In these folders put your favourite MP3 files. You can now use these MP3 files as per the topic.
Notifications - Message tones and Notification tones
Ringtones - Your phone ringtones
Alarms - Your alarm mp3s
Using these folders there is no need to play the MP3 files first in Music Player.

May seem like a strange request, but...
Coming from a "dumb" flip phone, its way too easy for me to accidentally dial a number while messing around with my contact list and call history.
I will be swiping down the list, and it will dial a number if my finger rests too long on a contact.
Is there a way to require that I hit the "call" button before dialing anybody's number?

I'm trying to build an android app that would do a local search on google.I know there is a Google Search API for Java, and I am able to use it for a desktop application. However, when I use the same jar file (gsearch.jar) in my android project, Some problems arise. When I call the .localSearch() method of my gsearch.Client object, a runtime error is occurring. The error message is: "java.lang.VerifyError: gsearch.Client". This message is occurring in the Dalvik Debug Monitor log.So what is the problem here? Can I not use the search API on the android? More importantly, how do I do a local search from an android app? Does the android sdk have search APIs inbuilt? I could only find the Maps api, and Map search is not what I'm looking for.

to send an sms, I click "messaging" then "New Message". But I have to enter my friend's phone number on the "to" box. But how if I wanted to find the number from 'contact'? I know I can go to 'contact' at the beginning instead of going to 'messaging'. But, in case if I am sending an SMS to multiple receipients? And how to forward a message to a third people?
Can Milestone 'edit before call'?
