I am looking for a phone which has the following features:-Android OS 2.1 - with the default google supplied interface(i choose this because , i believe google will try to make future updates in android available for all phones)

Motorola Droid :: Device Release Date / Availability Reasonably Soon?

Aug 19, 2009

I've heard that this should be coming to Verizon before Thanksgiving? Is there anything to support this? My contract is currently up and I'm wanting to get an Android phone (and this one looked cool) but I don't want to wait too long if it isn't going to be available reasonably soon. Also, are there ant charts comparing all the different phones coming out soon?

Android :: Determine Google Street View Availability

Jul 19, 2009

I have an application that is loading the street view application at a given latitude and longitude. I was wondering if anyone knows a way of determining if a streetview is available at a specific location, so that instead of loading the streetview and trying to download a view somewhere where it is unavailable, ultimately throwing an error, I can display a message instead. The maps application can do it but I can't seem to find a way using the android api, maps api or any of the intent uri's.

General :: Can Android USB Interface Act As Boot Device?

Aug 22, 2010

Very often I find myself needing to reset or get around someone's Windows Password, the easiest way of course is with one of many available linux boot cd's that'll edit the windows system hive. However most of the time I'm not carrying this around, I have a USB stick that can be used but I noticed earlier that while my Nexus One was plugged into the USB port on boot it is detected by my bios.

So the question is - Can the android USB interface act as a boot device? If so I assume it'd need a different partition since it's already got an OS?

(Also while I have your attention: 1) Did they ever fix the +1 area code problems with contacts?, 2) Why don't half my contacts show up in Send MMS dialogue (and others)?, 3) How do I tell if I have an SLCD or AMOLED screen cos sometimes the screen looks really crappy (dithering or off colour banding) AND FINALLY 4) can you set notification sounds differently depending on time of day (ie; I don't want a new gmail alert to wake me up at 2am.

General :: Change System Settings Interface And Ribbon Effect To Default?

Aug 25, 2013

My OEM's preloaded rom is almost-nearly stock, apart from 2 things:

1. White background on "system settings" interface and not the default holo. Cant that be changed to default?

2. Ribbon effect instead of flash-light in holo effect, which tbh is quite annoying, because the ribbon effect is also quite large and in slower animation speed so that,s 1 second of frustation everytime i scroll to the end. (Yea, 1 second isnt much but, add those up and it gets annoying really fast)

How can these be changed back to default without installing a custom rom?

Android :: How To Interface With Google Calendar?

Jun 4, 2010

I am building an app for Android 2.1 that provides notifications based on calendar events. But I'm aware there are issues with the Calendar API not being readily available / stable / whatever. What I'd like to do is somehow communicate with the user's Google Calendar to get a list of tasks every few hours, or perhaps when the calendar is updated, and then store that data locally so they don't need to have an active Internet connection at all times. Then at a particular time, the notification event would occur. Surely, someone must have determined a way to interface with Google Calendar? I'm sure there must be numerous apps and solutions available that connect to it already, and my users can use any interface they like for interacting with it, but I need to be able to read the data and store it locally.

Android :: How To Compile Browser (or Other Supplied Applications)?

Apr 9, 2010

I want to add support for Arabic (or other languages which are currently unsupported) to the applications supplied by android platform (e.g. Browser) without the need of having root-access. To add Arabic support (at least displaying only) in a normal application (using developer SDK), I will need to:

Add fonts
Modify (reshape) the characters to be rendered
For illustration, if I have string a aaa, I will need to change a aaa into a bcd because letter a at the beginning, middle, and end of a word need to be changed to b,c and d respectively). But now I want to compile android's Browser (and other apps). I am planning to get the source codes for these applications and their dependencies and bundle them as stand-alone applications which do not require root-access, and thus do not void the warranty.

Other solutions which void the warranty can be obtained here. My Questions: Is the application's (e.g. Browser's) source code + 'developer SDK' enough to accomplish this? Do I need to get the source code + the development environment for the android platform?
Any tips?

Samsung Captivate :: Supplied Headphones With Mic Built In?

Aug 6, 2010

The headphones that came with the phone. Do they have a mic built in? Or is the person's voice going through the headphones and the phone itself picking up my voice? I ask because I thought that the pause/play button on the cord itself was only a play/pause button and nothing else. Caused a awkward situation when my friend called and I was listening to Pandora so I was about to unplug the headphones after answering and I was like "hold on" and he said "okay" in my EAR, so I said "WTF you can hear me?" and he said "Yeah, pretty well". If it uses the phone's built in speaker that'd be awesome because then I can use any headphone combo I want and leave them in all the time if someone calls.

Android :: Default Paint Size Too Small On New Device

Jun 2, 2010

My app uses a custom View that does a lot of text drawing. To ensure my text is always readable I've been using the result of calling getTextSize() on a newly-created Paint() instance as the minimum size. Docs say calling 'new Paint()' sets attributes like text size to default values. One of my European users just got a Motorola Milestone phone and reports that some text is unreadably small.I believe I've duplicated this using the WVGA854 skin in a 2.1 emulator.Run in that emulator my app's smallest TextViews look fine, but the text I'm drawing myself using Paint instances where I haven't changed the text size from the default is too small. I confirmed this by commenting out all setTextSize() calls in my View subclass: the text becomes too small to read comfortably.

In the "main" activity, I can access my Connection object and communicate with the controller. However, when I start a new activity from the "main" activity and bind to the service, I get a NullPointerException when I try to call methods in the ConnectionService.
