If I upgrade my SD card from say 8 to 16 gigs... can I merely copy over the directories from my old card to my new one so that my apps still work the same? Are there any hidden files or directories I need to worry about?

Was thinking about upgrading my stock 2gb card to a 16 or 32 soon. So I have a few questions.
1)Since my Dinc is rooted, will I have to copy anything to the new card after formatting it, or should my phone remain unaffected?
2) I know there is class 2, 4, and 6, with each having faster read/write speeds and being quite a bit more. Will those speeds really make much difference when being used in my phone for backups, random files, apps, and music or videos?
3) Can I copy my sd card files to my phone's internal memory and transfer them that way? Or do I need to transfer them through my computer?
I picked up my Droid 2 this past Saturday, and immediately ordered a 16GB Transcend Class 6 micro SD card for it. To install it, I plugged my Droid into my PC (Linux machine), un-hid all the hidden files, copied them to my desktop, then disconnected the Droid, took the stock card out, plugged the new card in, and copied the files back. After a reboot of the Droid, everything seemed OK.The problems started while copying songs onto the Droid. The copy process froze, and ever since, the phone had problems with this card. It's sluggish, and hangs on shut-down.Is there a proper way to upgrade to a new card that I don't know about? The guys at the Verizon store didn't have any ideas.

I may opt to buy a larger 16GB card for my Dinc to replace the 2GB card that came with it that I've been using for weeks. Will it just be a matter of copying all the files and directories from the old card to a temp folder on my PC and then copying them back to the new card once installed in the phone? Don't want to lose what I already have on my 2GB card.

I have had my Hero since November and love it, but I noticed recently I have just about filled my 2gb card with data.So ... what is the process involved? Is it simply a case of connecting to my PC, creating a folder and dragging the lot >>> swapping the card in the phone >> then dragging it all back onto the new card?
View 34 Replies View RelatedI have an application which resides on the phone memory but downloads large data to the SD card on first launch (the app needs to be able to work without an internet connection most of the time) When using the recommend directory given in Froyo it seems all files on the SD card are deleted when I install a newer version of the .apk. I'd preferably like the files removed on uninstall, but not on upgrade since the files on the SD card aren't going to change between application versions, and forcing the user to re-download a large file that is independent of the application version does not seem reasonable. At the moment it seems I'm forced to use a different directory to the recommended one in order to stop Froyo deleting all the files when the application is upgraded. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to work (I'm guessing it is)?

Just like many of you probably are, I am in need of more storage. 14 GB is evaporating fast, and I'm not sure the SD card is upgradable yet. I don't fully understand exactly what an SD card does besides provide storage (ie: does it function as a hard drive, etc). Basically, how are those who are upgrading their SD cards doing so without having to reload all your apps, re-buying apps you paid for, and having to otherwise completely set up your Droid all over again from scratch?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis issue has been sorta "asked and answered" but the information I have found information has been on phones OTHER than the EVO. I just wanted to CONFIRM everything for the EVO (which I just rooted last night and NEW to the root modifications and options) before I got into any trouble! I have the stock 8GB card and want to update to a larger card. I rooted my phone last night and the only "rooty" things I have done has been: (1) full clockworkmod backup to the SD card; (2) Titanium backup; and (3) moving some apps to the SD via Move2SD Enabler.
From what I've read I can just copy the contents of my original card to the new card and put the card in the phone. I was wondering if this IS the case with the EVO? Since I am rooted with various backups saved to the SD card, are their any concerns with those files going forward? And do I have any concerns with the apps that I have moved to the SD card...will they continue to function with copy-paste to the new card inserted into teh phone?? And lastly...also probably asked and answered a thousand times but I didn't check ...can anyone recommend a class/speed/brand of SD card, most likely a 16GB card but perhaps a 32GB?? Ok I'm looking to install new/bigger memory card (1gb to 8gb sdhc) for more memory after maintenance. I'm currently running Aloysious 2.0.9 Maps, looking to run new Custom ROM after my Sprint Store Visit. My vibrate mode stop working recently, so I'm gonna take back to Sprint cuz its still under warranty. I know I have to Unroot first before i take back, so i will. Do i Unroot to the 2.27 OR the 2.31 stock ROM? Will i be able to ROOT back to a new Custom ROM like LiquidSense 2.1, CM6, or aospMod v0.9.7. How/What files do i need to transfer over from my old card to new card after or before i flash new Custom ROM.

What I want to know is when I get my new card will I have to re-root all over again or will I be able to just copy the data from my stock card to my pc then copy it back over to my new card? The root process was simple enough, however I would like to not have to go through the process over again if I don't have to.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a 16gb Class 6 card to replace the 8gb card that came with the EVO. I put some music/photos from my PC onto the new card and stuck it in the EVO. Everything seemed to go ok, but when I went to use the camera, it showed a black screen with what i think was a pic of an SD card for about a second then just closed the camera app and went to the home screen. Was I supposed to copy anything from the old card to the new one or do anything else before I switched? I just put the stock 8gb card back in the EVO for now until I figure out what I'm supposed to do.

Trying to delete unnesesary apps and junk off my phone. But it still runs slow, so i have joined this android forum seeking help. I can purchase a new phone an iphone 4 or HTC desire but i like my HTC wildfire and i enjoy the android operating system, the Wildfire's camera is amazing and the only thing i want to be able to do is make it faster. When I use the trackball to move up and down my internet browser scrolls up and down the page and when I click it will click on links so that's all good. It's just the mouse won't move. I have a USB mouse attached to my PC and I have followed all of the FAQ's on the gMote website. It only seems to work in debug mode. Any answers to why that might be? Is there an application that will allow you to copy your texts to your SIM card?

I'm thinking about turning this off in order to reduce the size of my app and allow the "move to sd card" function to work. I've read that, in the past, people were having issues when the dev switched the copy protection setting from off to on. Is this still an issue? If users are still having problems then I'll leave things as they are. I understand that copy protection isn't really helping and I should just leave it off, but since I've had it on through several updates now, I'd hate to cause my users grief by changing now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to unbundle a binary file (sound1.ogg) and store it on the sdcard.So it starts out as a raw resource (R.raw.sound1) and should end up as a copy named /sdcard/ mydir/sound1.ogg I wrote a method called something like copyResourceToFile() and did a copy via file descriptors / streams. But the target file just isn't right.If I do a buffered read, the target file ends up being WAY bigger - like 10x bigger.If I just do a byte-by-byte read for the size of the original file, the target file is the right size but is not the same file. Is there a simpler (well, correct/working) way to do this thing?
