HTC Incredible :: Moving Files And Directories From 2GB SD Carad To New 1g GB Card

Jul 20, 2010

I may opt to buy a larger 16GB card for my Dinc to replace the 2GB card that came with it that I've been using for weeks. Will it just be a matter of copying all the files and directories from the old card to a temp folder on my PC and then copying them back to the new card once installed in the phone? Don't want to lose what I already have on my 2GB card.

I recently got an SD card for my S4 and I wanted to transfer and keep all my files on it. No problem, within a couple of seconds, I got all of them moved. However, since I download a lot of images from the internet and other apps, can I change the download directory so I can directly download to the SD Card? I have to use Chrome for various reasons, so I can't switch browsers.

General :: How To Mount Directories Across SD Cards

Aug 10, 2012

Okay, this is what I want to do. Under Linux, it would be done via /etc/fstab, but Android has changed some things up.

Certain apps store files and other things on the internal SD card of the RAZR. For example, the Amazon MP3 Cloud player stores all downloaded music files to /sdcard/amazonmp3. There is no way to change this. However, I store all my music on my external SD card. So, what I want to do is create a mount point on the internal sdcard for the /sdcard/amazonmp3 directory that points to a directory on my external sd card (/sdcard-ext/amazonmp3).

That way, when I download music, it will still attempt to save it to /sdcard/amazonmp3 which really is a mount point that points to /sdcard-ext/amazonmp3.

Now, there is an app called FoldersPlug which does this. However, it's not doing it across reboots and it's a little buggy in how it works. I'd rather just fix the /etc/vold.fstab file (if that's possible) to mount my directories for me, but I don't completely understand all the needs to be set up in it.

If I have the following directories set up:

/sdcard/amazonmp3 (this will be empty)
/sdcard-ext/amazonmp3 (this will contain all the files and folder structures that would normally be in /sdcard/amazonmp3)

I want it so that the /sdcard-ext/amazonmp3 directory is mounted to the /sdcard/amazonmp3 directory.

Here is what I see when I run the "mount" command to look at the current mount points that are mounted:

Code:
/dev/block/vold/179:97 /mnt/sdcard/amazonmp3 vfat rw,dirsync,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1015,fmask=0702,dmask=0702,allow_utime=0020,codepage=cp437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,utf8,errors=remount-ro 0 0
/dev/block/vold/179:97 /mnt/sdcard/DCIM vfat

[Code]...

General :: Access Root Directories From Bootloader Or 4ext Recovery?

May 31, 2013

My phone wont boot into android because of a bad setting I made in pimp my rom, it only boots into recovery now. So what I need to do is sort files modified by a certain date and time (last night) and restore them with originals hoepfully to get my phone to boot back up.

So how do I navigate and search my root directory through 4ext recovery or bootloader, because those are my only options?

Is there a way to mount these directories and browse them through windows as if it were an actual folder so I can use windows 7's build in search features as well? I have android commander installed and can use that if need be.

how to exactly approach this without installing my rom back over again.

General :: Proper Way To Remove Package From Source?

Feb 2, 2014

I am working on a custom CyanogenMod ROM (10.2) for my own use. I've managed to accomplish most of my goals. One thing remains: removing packages that I don't want/need from the build. Technically, I am able to do so already by modifying the Android.mk file of the package so that it produces errors during the build procedure, skips building the package, but doesn't stop the entire build process. However, that is just a lousy hack.

the correct .mk/.sh/.whatever files in the repository I would need to edit (there are probably several) so that I can skip building the packages I don't want included in my ROM? I want to avoid using a "kitchen" if I can. I won't actually learn anything if I use a kitchen.

General :: Proper Lockdown Of Google Play?

Jul 4, 2013

I have a son who is 11 and has 2 android devices one gift and one hand me down. He also has Google store play gift certificates redeemed on his account.I have a daughter who is 7 and she has one hand me down android device.

I tried setting Google play to require a password but I noticed "free" labeled items were still allowed to be downloaded. I want to monitor what my kids put on their devices so this was not an option as some of the goriest items are labeled as free. Right now I am using a parental control device that Blocks Google play altogether. The problem is I then have to go on the web to unlock their device just to allow them to browse the store to see if there is something they want and then I have to relock the device down.

What I REALLY would like is a program that lets them browse the store at their leisure but disallow ANY download without a password free or paid. Basically is there any program that allows for non full app blocking but does block any attempted download from the store without a password.

General :: Hotmail Account - How To Find Proper Settings

Mar 10, 2012

I have a Hotmail account and I downloaded the Hotmail app and set up my email. However, when I delete an email on the phone I would like it NOT to delete on the server. I have tried looking everywhere for this setting ("Never delete from server") on both the app and on the server itself with no luck. I noticed the native email app has this setting but I prefer to use the hotmail app. I have also tried K-9, and while I really like the UI it has not been reliable in delivering my hotmail (gmail gets delivered right away).

how to find the proper setting? Or is there not a setting like this yet?I have a SGS2(HD LTE) running gingerbread.

General :: Android - SurfaceView Flickers And Sometimes Does Not Apply Proper Paint

Apr 3, 2012

The issue I am experiencing is that the SurfaceView I am using flickers. Once in a while, the objects I draw flicker and they change their size or colour.

It looks like that sometimes the application skips my calls to 'Paint.setColor()' and the one to 'Paint.setStrokeWidth()'.

I have made methods which change the used paint and then, in order to try to fix this issue, to set it back to the default paint values. Still the issue persists. I have also read that the problem might be due to the double buffering. Is it the case? I am using this code for the DrawingThread:

I also tried to use a dirty Rectangle to try to see if the issue can be fixed, but still nothing. [I might not have understood what it actually does.

Code:
class DrawingThread extends Thread {
private SurfaceHolder _surfaceHolder;
private CustomView _cv;
private boolean _run = false;

[Code] .....

I have read somewhere I should draw on a single bitmap and then draw the bitmap on the canvas. I have tried several times but I cannot manage to do so.

HTC Magic : Playlists Or Directories Not Going Away

Sep 16, 2010

On my HTC-03A, it has Android 1.6. I can't upgrade because Docomo won't let me.

Anyway, I thought the version would be relevant to my question.

It's a small issue, but in the default music player, when I look at the library, there are directories and play lists there which I have long since removed from the SD card. I also have 3 different play lists titled "podcasts", and I don't know how that happened.

I thought it might be the default music player at fault, so I downloaded Mixzing, but it showed the exact same playlists, empty and deleted ones and all.

So something on my Android is hanging on to old information somewhere.

Any idea where and how I can edit it so that I can clean up my play lists?

Android :: Handle Special Directories ?

Jul 28, 2010

I see that as of API Level 8, you can request a handle to special directories with Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory. This takes a type such as DIRECTORY_MUSIC, DIRECTORY_PICTURES, etc.

I'm looking for an equivalent directory for other media types such as documents (Word docs, PDFs, etc.). My HTC Desire has a "/sdcard/My Documents/" folder which looks like exactly what I want, but it has no DIRECTORY_ specifier for use with the above method. Is this a standard Android directory which I can rely on?

If I can't use getExternalStoragePublicDirectory, I have to use getExternalStorageDirectory instead which just points me to the root of the SD card. I can explicitly check for the presence of "My Documents" under the root and use it if it's there.

This is what I have:

CODE:..........

Is there a better way?

Android :: Organizing Files On Sdcard Into Directories

May 27, 2010

I have images uploaded on the simulated sdcard on my emulator. I downloaded them from the browser, using the long-click on each image.

When I look at the file explorer in the DDMS perspective, I see that they are in the directory sdcard/download.

Now if I want to download some audio files and use them in an app to, say list the title of all audio files, will they go in the same directory? (I am trying to push the audio files manually from my computer to the emulator).

This doesn't seem right. Shouldn't the media files of different types (pictures, audio, video) go into different directories?

Also, thinking this through a little, how is something like this related to the physical directory on the sdcard?

Uri mMedia = android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;

Android :: Creating Cache Files And Directories On HTC Desire

Oct 23, 2010

I've experienced a strange issue running applications on the HTC Desire.

When I call getApplicationContext().getCacheDir() or getApplicationContext().getFilesDir() from my activity this always returns null. In the emulator /data/data/com.myapp.android/cache respectively /data/data/com.myapp.android/files is returned.

Because of that I'm not able to use the webview class as it tries to create cache files and crashes with a null pointer exception. The logs:

CODE:..............

I noticed that other apps have issues as well. For example the google finance app logs the following message:

CODE:.............

Why I cannot create folders in this directory?

Is there a possibility to set the fileDir and cacheDir paths to the sd card or somewhere else? I looked at some classes like Context, Webview and CacheManager but I could not find a way to change it.

Do I need to set a permission to create cache files?
