Android :: Control An Office 2010 PowerPoint Presentation Remotely Using Droid Application?
Sep 28, 2010
I want to write an Android remote control application that allows people to navigate back and forth on a PowerPoint slideshow presentation in Microsoft Office (preferably 2007/2010) on my PC. In this case, I have to make a small PowerPoint navigation client on the Android, and also I have create a PC server to access Microsoft Office PowerPoint and manipulate its slideshow. I know it is possible for a java application to gain access to Microsoft Office PowerPoint's slideshow. Some applications for Android are already made (Gmote 2.0 and such) and they can be used to navigate PowerPoint slideshows. Is there any extension or any library that can be used to gain access to Microsoft Office PowerPoint?

I went through a dozen of websites and apps description on the net to find a tutorial or explanation about how to install and setup an android app to control your pc remotely (gmote, phonemypc, rdp,). But without success. Is there any (complete and working) tutorial somewhere?
The problems & open topics are:
- usually if you have XP home you are stuck because there is no remote desktop (only for XP professional and upper versions). Nevertheless, when reading comments of people who have tried one of these apps, it looks like that a lot of XP home users have successfully installed the app. How? Mystery.
- the IP address: there are either tutorials with an 198.168.x.x IP address or with an Y.Y.Y.Y IP.
If you have an 198. IP, then you are local and probably by WiFi. What is the point of using WiFi at home to control your PC? Are you too lazy to stand up and go to it?
And if you use a "showmyip.com" website to get your network IP, the apps (sofar for me) could never connect to the server on the PC with this IP. So does anyone know how to solve this point? (ports are open, no firewall issue). Finally I need an install tutorial to be able to control my PC with an app (free possibly) with detailed steps and IP/setup examples.

I have a Linux N wireless router, and a desktop with a wifi card running Windows 7 (Home Premium x64). I have a HTC Magic running the 4.2 version of CyanogenMod (Android version 1.6). What I basically, want to do is in the title. I want to have an app that allows me to view my PC screen on my phone. Gmote and similar apps come close, but they are useless as I cannot view my screen. I have looked at a number of "VNC" apps, but for one reason or another it just doesn't work. I have gotten VLC Remote and TunesRemote to work, which means that I am able to connect my phone to the computer, but beside that nothing works. I managed to get TunesRemote to work by opening certain ports in Windows 7. However, I tried to do a similar thing with a number of VNC applications and none of them worked. I have been trying to port forward for the last three years and no matter what I do, it just doesn't work. I am unsure if it is my Windows 7 firewall or the router, but either way nothing seems to be working.

I had a scare today where I left my phone at the gym and thought I had lost it. Whats a good app to locate the phone remotely? (preferably works with GPS AND cell tower location, because I don't have GPS on most of the time.) It would be nice to be able to remotely lock it as well... looks like there are some options available but I'm not sure which one works. The thing with the app store is that you can't sort by reviews, its hard to tell which app is good and which one doesn't work

I have had my Sony Ericsson Experia X10 for 4 months now and are happy with it although I seem to be continuously charging the battery? I haven't really looked at that many Android apps but I can't find a decent office type program similar to Microsoft Office or Open office to use excel, or similar office documents whilst I'm away from my laptop? Also are there any Krazy kiwis living out there using the great Android networks living in the UK, or even better in Bristol? I would love to hear from you soon

I've just completed a week of work at my company, investigating android, and obviously spent time developing applications and playing with the API. However I know have to give a presentation about my findings (mostly good by the way), and I wanted some background pictures for my presentation that are android themed. Surely someone here has had to do something like this and either has some lying around, or knows of a website that has some CC or freely licensed background pictures.

I would like to "install" a series of videos on one of the home screens to be played from the device (not online like YouTube).
I would also like to know how to create a "PowerPoint" style presentation that would also run from the device and allow slides to be swiped back and forth, and even video or audio on some slides. Transitions between slides?
All to be done from the Android device. Is there a way to do these things?

What's a good substitute app for "Remote for PowerPoint"? It was free, unlimited use before the update, and now the dev wants $5.99 for it -- I only use it 3x per year- and Lite version has a 15-slide limitation. Besides, I can't figure out where to download the paid version. I'm looking for something that works with Bluetooth, preferably.

I'm looking for a volume control application (or apps that work together) to
1) Change volumes, vibrate etc. at certain times
2) Lock the volume slider (I'm fed up constantly changing the ringer vol)
I have looked through loads of apps but haven't seen one that does both, and if I use 2 separate programs they fight with each other. I'd prefer one with a widget but not a deal breaker. I currently use Timeriffic for the volume settings/timing and Volume Locker for the locking.

I was just wondering if there was a way to control the volume for each application independently. For example I was using my droid for GPS navigation and music in my car the other day and kept getting shouted at by the navigation since the volume was turned up for the music. Needless to say it gets really annoying fast. This problem stems from the fact that all the apps have their volume control handled by the media volume control.

I have searched for this a bunch of times, but have not found anything directly allowing me to annotate pdfs in android.
I am aware of one method where one converts your .ppt file into .pdf and can draw on it directly with ezpdf reader.
However, it would be nice to be able to draw on the powerpoints natively.
Any application which supports this on android?
(For the record, this app will be used on a Galaxy Note (me) and sideloaded onto a Kindle Fire (girlfriend)). We haven't rooted the KF yet but would consider doing so to get that functionality. (I know sideloading doesn't require root but not all applications seem to work).
The GNote has an active digitizer but the Kindle Fire will be using a capacitive stylus, so we will see about accurately.
Specifically, my girlfriend will be editing powerpoint lectures for Biochem, so she needs to be able to draw structures, circle things etc.
I remember taking the class and being quite envious of classmates doing the same with their ipads... they seemed to have no problem doing these types of basic things with a capacitive stylus.
