Android :: Android: Interacting With The Screen Locks Out The Buttons
Nov 21, 2010
I have a both onKeyDown and onMotionEvent overriden in my application. Both of these work, but the onKeyDown has strange behavior. I can always interact with the screen on the device, but after I have interacted with the screen, the buttons do not work. In order to make them work again, I have to push other buttons (ones that I don't use) in order for them to work again. And if I interact with the screen again, the buttons will not work again.
The application I am writing is a game, so the button calls are made to the surface and then passed to the thread running the game.
I am debugging on an HTC Aria, but the problem persists in my emulators as well.
The basic code I have is the same as is detailed here.
The code for the buttons are as follows:
CODE:.............................

Every time i lock the screen the SIM locks as well, meaning I have to enter the SIM pin code every time I unlock the phone! Also no one can call me since the SIM is locked. Anyone else got this problem? This happened once in a while on 1.6 but since my update to 2.1 this morning it happens every time.

I am not able to find out the perfect layout(viewgroup) to place four buttons as shown in the attached image. Basically, i want to place four buttons near the top/left/bottom/right edge of the screen. AbsoluteLayout helped, but it is deprecated (It is also better to avoid AbsoluteLayout as it is not very flexible for orientation changes)

I have a service which starts at boot up time, the service code needs the intent of following scenarios.
1) When the phone locks(after time out)
2)When the user unlocks the screen (by dragging the screen lock object)
There doesn't appear to be an API available where an application can be notified when the device is locked or unlocked. It is important the this application be notified of these events, since the service utilizes the proximity sensor which does not shutdown when the device goes into suspend. The app will need to unload the prox sensor manually to save battery when the device gets locked, and reload the prox after the device is unlocked again.

I have the screen timeout set to 1 min which works fine until I use the phone. When using the phone the screen times out (and locks) in about 5 seconds. This is a real pain when using voicemail etc and you need to interact with the keypad.

1) After I make a call, the screen goes black in a matter of seconds. I'm typically using a headset when I notice this. To end the call (or enter numbers in a call menu) I need to press the sleep button to get the screen to light up again. This is a pain in the a$$.I have the screen timeout set for 2 mins.
2) About once or twice a day the home screen will lock where I can't press anything. I need to reboot to fix.

Lets say Im creating an Android app for a company that already provides some sort of online service. I want my android app to extend this online service and I want the app to interact with my remote databases, would I embed a web browser in my application or directly connect to my remote database from within my code? If I am directly connected to a database from within code and not through a web browser, would that be a security risk since the connection info would be distributed in the code?

I'm trying to refactor/redesign an Android app. Currently, I've one UI activity (Activity 1) that creates a DataThread. This thread is responsible for network I/O and interacts (provides data) with the UI activity via a handler.
Now, I want to add another activity (a new UI screen with Video) - Activity 2. Activity 1 is still the main activity. Activity 2 will be invoked when the user clicks a button on Activity 1. Activity 2's data also comes from the DataThread.
My idea is to put the logic of my DataThread inside an Android Service (DataService). My question is - can more than on activity bind to my DataService at the same time? Is there a way to tell the service to provide data to a specific activity only?

I ordered a combo kit from amazon, very cheap. I know some chargers lock up the screen, but this one had a review from someone with an Inc. saying it was fine. Anyway, wall charger locks screen, but shows it is charging, led lights up. Car charger works fine, no screen locking up.
So... am I doing any damage to my phone using wall one? Was thinking I would just use overnight when phone is off. Anyone else using one that locks phone?
I can always just toos wall one, and keep the car one, still great deal for the $4 is spent.

I recently was sent an OTA update and did it. Well , it wiped all my work Exchange settings out. I reconfigured and now I am forced to log in with a password AFTER I swipe the screen lock at the bottom.
This was occurring before the 2.2 update in Sept. and I used the No Lock App. Well now, the No Lock app doesn't even work. I work for a small company and they couldn't find the "Mobile" settings in Exchange that I have read about in other posts. Anyone know why this is happening and if there is a fix? I have other Android users at my office and they do not have to unlock with a password.

Anyone else have this issue? My Eris' lock screen...well, locks up. So meta, right?
It does this maybe once a day and the only way to unlock the lock screen is... you can't. I have to pull the battery out and put it back in, then wait the entire three minutes it takes to restart.
EDIT: Sometimes it doesn't lock, but I can't pull down the unlock all the way. It sits there near the bottom of the screen and I can kind of move it around, but I can't pull it all the way down.
This is unbearably frustrating because I use the cardio program to track all my fitness. If it locks up in the middle of a workout, I can't save or see my progress. Obviously, I can't make a guess as to the distance I've traveled because I'm training for a marathon and I need exact numbers.
This is not to mention god knows what kind of screw-ups might result from so many restarts and forced shut down by pulling out the battery.

Yesterday I was using my Moment, and had to reboot it... Data lock *cringe*. So it boots up, and I start using it, browsing the internet, and suddenly, without warning, while my finger is on the screen scrolling, the phone locks up the screen. It did it several times more while I was using Google maps, and while I was browsing my gallery.

So I have a rooted EVO that I listen to streaming music through the stock browser. If I leave the browser (home screen or another app) or I lock the screen, then the stream stops. As soon as I unlock the screen or switch back to the browser, it resumes immediately. Has anyone figured out how to circumvent this feature?

I just got my new T-Mobile galaxy s4 from insurance a few weeks ago (first one got stolen). I updated to 4.3 shortly after. Everything was good at first but lately I've been having major problems
◎Wifi keeps switching to 4g when phone locks
◎security notice keeps popping up every time the WiFi reconnects
Now before joining AC I tried the disable Knox method for the security notice because I thought that was making my WiFi buggy. It doesn't solve the problem
◎has incredibly slow lag on lock screen. When i say incredible i mean VERY slow.
◎the notifications bar looks solid when having lock screen lag
◎the WiFi won't automatically reconnect
◎the WiFi will turn off every few minutes without my knowledge and drains my data plan

Every time the screen blanks after timeout it locks the phone - this is inconvenient because every time I pick the phone up to use I have to unlock it. is there any way to stop this - I would prefer it to never lock unless I use the power/lock button.

Is it possible to set the screen to turn off, let's say, after 2 minutes, but have the phone only lock after, let's say, 10 minutes.
During the day I am in and out of my contacts constantly and I am unlocking my phone too much! I just want it to lock after a preset time, not every time the device is turned off.

I was playing around with my Nexus phone last week when I first got it. I was messing the screen sleep settings. I could have sworn there was option either associated with that or somewhere in the settings where it asked you how long it would take for the phone to lock the screen after it went to sleep.
OS = Jelly Bean

how to interact between fragments with a button click. I have been playing around with a sample app I created:
Here is what I have done:
1. created 2 fragment classes and 2 activities
2. I created a listener to for my first fragment to interact with my activity
3. on the first fragment layout i have a button that when clicked it goes to another activity that has a fragment.
4. when i click the button i get no response. I even looked at the logcat and nothing gets registered.
Here is my code...
Code:
public class Activity1 extends FragmentActivity implements Fragment1.OnFragmentInteractionListener {
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);[code]......

(Galaxy note 2, Sungsonic ROM)
When streaming from Grooveshark in a web-browser, the audio-streaming stops (after finishing current song) when the screen shuts/locks. I have tried several browsers with the same result.
Audio-streaming from audio-specific apps (i.e. TuneIn) works just fine.
Someone mentioned somewhere that it has to do with the browsers not being set to over-ride the screen-lock.

I recently ungraded my Samsung Galaxy GTi1900G with Cyanogenmod 10.1 ROM following the instructions exactly as mentioned in their site. Installation has smooth and absolutely no hiccups, phone is running smooth like butter.
Only annoying thing is sometime the screen is getting locked out all of a sudden during any activity like browsing, watching videos on youtube, etc.It keeps locking off immediately after I unlock the screen and this continues for 10 12 times at a stretch before I can finally unlock the screen. This incident is happening 2 - 3 times a day and is quite disturbing.
PFA the attached system log that I captured once during the issue, I was surfing youtube in FullScreen mod and during the capture the screen locked out twice. The screen locked out 6 time during this instance bu in log only last two have been captured.

I have a Querry, I am trying to add buttons to the Incall screen. But after adding the buttons, my buttons are not Clickable. That's UI is present in the screen. I am able to select the Buttons using the up down arrow Key. And on pressing OK control is going to my OnClickListener
But I am not able to Click the Buttons directly on the UI. It looks like some kind of Blocking is there for Click events on the Incall Screen, But still I need to get rid of it. Do suggest. What's the possible way?
My code is as follows...

I've been racking my brain (android newbie here, so not hard to do) for awhile trying to figure out how to accomplish this: Desired Layout using a Relative Layout or something other than AbsoluteLayout which is what this was created with. I'm coming from a Windows programming background where the device adjusts the 'absolute' positioning for you and GUI layout was a non-issue.The first layout works great in the emulator, but doesn't format for my Nexus One or any other screen that differs from the emulator size. I expected this because it's absolutely positioned, but haven't found a solution that will format correctly for different screen sizes. My goal is to have the layout work for different screen sizes and in portrait / landscape. Here's the Code that I'm currently using: [main.xml]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<AbsoluteLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
><Button
android:id="@+id/Button01"
android:layout_width="188px"
android:layout_height="100px"
android:text="A"
android:layout_y="50px" android:layout_x="65px" android:textSize="48sp"/>
