Android :: Add / Change Features Of Existing Application?

Is it possible to add or change the existing applications?
For example, I would like to add a new floating window following the current people when I open the contact manager.
I just want to change it a little bit. And I don't want to rewrite all the features of contact manager.
Is it possible to do this?
As I understanding, the view of the contact manager is controlled by the activities of the "contact manager" application. How can my application react when the user opening the contact manager?

New-> project->android-> create project from existing source... I gave the project name and also given the path of the existing project but i am getting an error that " An SDK target must be specified "

After getting comfy with the Android 2.0 environment and emulator (for the most part), I took the next step to bind <myapp> against the latest Android 2.0 jars: android.jar and maps.jar. The existing code (working in Android 1.6) did not need any changes to compile, but the app doesn't build due to a weird error message that prevents the build. See snippet below, drawn from the Eclipse Console. I have no aspirations to run up against any core library classes, and I am not aware I do. In other words, I am not implementing SealedObject (or any other core class that I am aware of) that would run up against Dalvik. Not in the javax, java or any other namespace. Anybody got any pointers what's going on here?......

I just created a gmail account/profile and i wanted to use this new account in my existing Samsung S4 which i have login with another gmail account.I manage to remove the old account ID and login with the new ID, all sync was done. BUT i found that some of my existing contact is without name but having the phone number and i am not sure if there is any missing contacts?
Then I retry to login with the old ID and the contacts details came back to normal with one or two without the names.

Are there any Yahoo Messenger applications that work properly on the EVO? Tried several versions last night and they either do not notify you properly or promptly. No flashing LED, unchangeable ring-tones or notifications or are full of advertisements. The ex has a Moment with yahoo and I was playing with it and it works perfect, just like on a computer. This phone should have come with a yahoo messenger app already.

I read some stuff about SQLite databases to use them within my own application. so for this point, it should work.
BUT:
for most of my data stuff i need a database that i can directly put into my application. i read on stackoverflow that it's possible to put up to 1,2mb files in the assets folder and then copy them anywhere else to use them.
my question is:
is it possible to acces those databases in the assets folder directly to read from them? there's no need to insert data into this database, it's just a data storage to read from? is it possible? and if it is than how could i do this?

1) In the Phone app. Above (and extending behind the keypad) is a list of your contacts. Contacts which have no First or Last Name" but which do have a company name, just show up as "Unknown" with a phone number. The obvious thing would be to show the Company name if there is no personal name. I believe the "People" app does this correctly. Anyone else notice?
2) The browser hides the notifications bar. So if I get an email I have to back out of the browser to find it. Am I missing something?
3) When using the "messages" app to send SMS, if you use the landscape keyboard, you can not see the "send" button, so you are forced to hide the keyboard before you can send a message. Feature or bug?
4) When opening the browser (presumably if it is not still being kept open) there is a several second (feels longer) delay where you stare at a white screen. The device then says "retrieving sign in details". Then, finally, loads the page. What's up with that?

Droid X - Configured with a Google Apps Premiere, working great. Attempting to add a personal GMail account. Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.

We're having to change our app's name due to it being somewhat close to a mark owned by a large company that believes consumers are easily confused. I had been assuming that this was simply a matter of changing the name listed in our Market description when we publish an update, but has anyone done this before? I don't want any nasty surprises, like the Market preventing a display name change on an existing app.

I have a Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1. What is your best app/widget to switch profiles? I want something that allows me to switch among: completely silent, vibration without ringer, vibration with ringer. I currently use the free app "Profiles' by "egg 'n stone". It's ok, but I was wondering if there's anything better.
I know there are plenty of widgets to enable/disable ringer and vibration; I tried several, but most didn't work well, especially when I tried to combine ringer and vibration: i.e. they were ok if I only wanted to enable or disable one of the two, but not both. Coming from Nokias and the Iphone, I must say I'm really disappointed there isn't soemthing integrated in the OS to switch profiles (like with Nokias) or at least a physical button to enable/disable the ringer, like in the Iphone.

I have an application on android market which is signed with my keystore, this application is a paid one, But now i have same application with some restricted features and this app is Free. both the apps are on android market. But the problem is I signed both Paid and Free apps with same KeyStore. Now i want to change keystore of one of the app. How do i do this.

I have created the meat and guts of my application but I want to add a different activity that will be the starting point (sort of a log-in screen).
Couple questions:
1) I have a fairly decent handle on how to switch between activities (based on this article: http://www.linux-mag.com/id/7498) but I'm not sure how to go about creating a new one (with eclipse).
2) once I have a new activity created, how can I set it as the default activity of my application? I presume I could just change the name of the classes...but is there a more elegant way to handle that (maybe within the AndroidManifest.xml)?

I have been looking for a method to change the default SMS application's preference programmatically.
I found that those preferences are stored as "shared preferences", probably in data/data/com.android.sms/something.xml, but I am not able to get to that directory since I haven't rooted my phone.
Do you have any clue?
