View 5 RepliesMy Location on Google Maps is about 3 miles off my actual location. Is this normal? I don't know how some of you use it for directions when your actual location is this far off.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Droid Eris for my wife. When you start Google Maps on her phone it pins "My Location" as somewhere in Northern India. Additionally, the weather HTC clock/weather widget on the home screen is showing weather for that location. The only way that I can get it to detect the correct location is to turn turn off cellular/wifi location detection and use gps exclusively. I have seen one or two posts on the Verizon forums claiming that the Eris is incapable of determining location using the cellular network and will only work with gps outdoors. I have looked through the forums here but can't seem to find any similar posts. Is anyone else having this problem with the Eris or could it possibly be a problem with this particular phone? I am hoping it is just this phone in which case I can take it back and exchange it for another one. After showing her so many different apps on my Droid that use location detection to give local information, it would be a shame if these will only work outdoors with a clear view of the sky.

Is there anyway I can access my phone's location online like through google maps or something?
Has anyone noticed the differences in using the two maps in terms of location accuracy? Specifically with GPS off. I don't expect either app to be extremely accurate in finding my location with GPS off, but what's odd is that Google Maps put's me about .25 miles WNW of my actual location while AT&T Maps put's my location .25 ENE of my actual location. You would think that the operating system determines the location and provides the app of that information, but that doesn't seem to be the case (since the two maps are showing different locations).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a Hero recently unlocked from the 3 network and I'm using a O2 SIM card in it, I have put in all the right settings to get my MMS and Internet working and everything is cool, however I seem to get really vague accuracy when using Google Maps, sometimes "accurate" to within 2400 metres. I think if somebody asked me to guess where they were in the world I reckon I could get closer than that! Anyway from searching the forum I have read a few comments saying to turn off the Wireless network setting in the Location menu and just leave the GPS one selected, which I have done but then even after waiting a few minutes in an open area it fails to find my location.
I know a couple of times with both wireless network and GPS settings enabled it has been accurate enough to be able to pinpoint my location and display the arrow next to the blue dot to show which way I am facing, which is really helpful if you are in a unfamiliar area and trying to navigate to somewhere. Any ideas why it's so poor at picking up my location and are there any apps to help the GPS get a lock? Would this be something that is fixed in the 2.1 update? Which doesn't ever look likely to come out.
Phone settings: Location : Battery Saving (GPS off, using Wifi/network location only)
On Google Play Services 4.0.x - I get very accurate location small circle around where my house is.
After updating to 4.2.25 - I get a large circle - maybe the radius of an entire block / surface area of a cell tower coverage roughly
Uninstall the update to play services (back to 4.0.x) - get very accurate location again.
I am using a RAZR HD with 4.4.2 kit kat / CM11.
Did play services update broke my specific phone?
I would stay on the older Play Services but Hangouts and Maps keep bitching about needing to update it.
In system settings, I have Use GPS satellites unchecked but Enable assisted gps checked. Now on my old blackberry, if I didn't have gps turned on, it would still find my approximate location to about a mile using cellular networks. On google maps on the Droid X, google maps doesn't find me at all and simply gives this error"Please enable a my location source in system settings".I don't want to enable full GPS for simple things like finding a local restaurant as approximate location would be fine with this
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Rogers Magic on the AT&T network here in the US. Its a 1.5 system.
On my old phone, the BJ-II running WM6, in google maps I could get my not-so-accurate-location from the cell tower. It wasnt aGPS, it was just a rough guesstimate of where I was at.
With this magic, is this functionality just not possible? It seems the only way to get a rough estimate of location is to use wifi of gps.
The igoogle web page is able to get my location though, it knows what city Im in, and its not using wifi/gps to do this, so I dont see why google maps isnt doing the same thing.
Also, I'd like to upgrade to 1.6 but I dont know in my phone is CRC1 or CRC24 or 32a or 32b.
my baseband ver is 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
my kernel ver is 2.6.27-dd63d1eb u70000@Android-X01
my build num is 2.16.631.6 146733 CL#33776 release-keys
How can I find out my CRC number and the 32 #?
Also, how do i manuall close apps? the "stop app" in "manage applications" isnt working for any of my apps
Is anyone having issues with Google Maps being able to pinpoint your exact location while using the Evo?I used to use Google Maps all the time on my MyTouch, and it would always find my exact location with no problem. But I used it for the first time today on my Evo, and it was always a couple of streets off (not "general" location with the transparent blue circle, but "exact" location w/no circle). This is very inconvenient when using Navigation because it keeps wanting to redirect from a place that I'm not at.I made sure my GPS was on before I started using Maps. I haven't tried using Sprint Nav or any other Nav apps, so I'm not sure if it's a problem with Google Maps, or the Evo GPS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI opened google maps and my location is not accurate at all. I understand that if I turn on gps options it becomes much more accurate, but it's a real battery eater. coming from a 2 year old samsung mysto on Helio network that ran google maps down to the meter for me (and only needed to be recharged every 4 days) it seems like this should work better.Am I missing something? That little mysto couldn't have been running active GPS pinging the whole time. What made it so much better at locating?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working on an application lately that is using GMaps to display a location that is stored in the devices database. However when no location is available (no GPS signal is available) the user can go through an edit wizard and at a certain point he can add a location himself. I already have to code to display the stored location, but is it possible to write something so the user get's to see a map and when he clicks/touches on a certain area a map pointer appears and the location is stored. Is that possible in any way? Is there any good online documentation available? I searched through this group and on Google but couldn't find anything usefull.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI got a new Wildfire about a week ago and I've been loving it, I used it in London and at home here in Norfolk with no problems until yesterday. All of a sudden my weather location changed to Sheffield. When I went into Google Maps it locked my location to be a park on the outskirts of Sheffield then after a few minutes it would find my real location. I turned off Wifi and using Wireless Networks to locate and it stopped doing that in Google Maps but wouldn't change the weather location and sometimes when I'm using Foursquare it will come up with a random list of places near Sheffield. This morning I wake up, turn on my phone and it decides it's in Aberdeen where apparently it's sunny. That's on the other side of the country and I just can't shake it off my weather gadget.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble trying to find a way to guide a user from one point on a map to another. I can add the locations I want to the overlay. I want the user to be able to pick a location and be guided through the streets to that location. Does anyone know how to do this, or is it even available in the API?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI get a message saying "Google Maps does not have permission to use your location". I try and follow the directions under "help". No luck.
HTC location information is turned on as is Google location information. I have had the phone for a few months but never used anything requiring location (my cars have navigation, I don't really need it on my phone).
Phone is HTC One, the phones OS and all the Google software has been updated. The location on the start screen has never been accurate (I leave my home in town X, arrive in city Y, phone still shows town X as my location until some period of time elapses. This is generally a non issue, because I know where I am) .
I've been looking for an app that I can quickly launch (widget is even better!), grab my current location using GPS and save it to an existing layer in my google maps account. If I can also a label to the point that would be ideal. After googling awhile I found "My Maps Editor" but it looks like it got the ax at some point.
As far as I know, you can view "My Places" from google maps in the mobile version using layers, but can't edit them. Even if you could edit it, it'd be a hassle to load up the layer each time when I just want to mark a spot on the map quickly.
I know you can star locations, but I've been using My Maps/Places for awhile so I'm a little locked in at this point.
Do most people have the Google My Location feature turned on or off? Is there a benefit to having it on? Does it drain battery?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my phone and the battery might still be stabilizing, and of course I'm fiddling with it a lot and I've installed heaps of apps, but I can't quite work out something. I unplugged my phone at midnight and this morning found my phone at 70% charge. I also got a message from my provider that I'd used up all my data. I checked and found that my phone had used up (sent+received) 30MB overnight. Google Maps was the biggest culprit - it received 700K but it sent almost 8MB. This is while the phone was sitting on my bedside table! And of course, as I'm driving to work (not using the phone at all), Google Maps was transmitting my location information back to it's servers so that the traffic flow is updated on their systems.
That's cool, but there doesn't appear to be any way to disable or turn off this in GM's configuration, or even exit the app. It seems that having My Location services enabled gives Google Maps (and I'm sure other apps like weather, gmail, Contacts, etc.) free reign to send and transmit data all the time. I don't want to have to disable My Location services completely; I want finer control over things on a per-app basis. Having Google Maps transmit 8MB overnight might not seem like a lot, but when the phone is idle, it disables wireless (to save battery) and thus all data is going through 2G/3G and I'm incurring data charges.
Dear all I m a final year student and want to know is it possible to make an application that can find the location of mobile on your pc via google maps or GPS if it is possible then how it is possible?

I've tried hard and soft resets, turning triangulation on off, GPS on off.
