Android :: Android - Accessing Single Database From Multiple Activities In Application

Dec 15, 2009

I have a todo list type application that stores all of the note data in a sqlite3 database. Each activity in the application needs access to the database to edit different parts of the data in real time.

Currently, I have each activity open its own DBManager object (the helper class I created to manage the database). This is causing problems though and I would like a slightly more global access solution so I don't have to keep opening/closing/creating a database.

I'm considering several options, and would like to hear pros and cons of each as well as other suggestions.

Singleton style. Have a wrapper class that returns a reference to the only database manager so any activity that needs it can use it.

Static Manager. Have the manager class be entirely static members and have it open the database on load. Easily accessible by anyone that needs it (which is everyone).

Merger between 1 and 2. I could make a database manager class that initializes the member singleton instance of the database and all of the data manipulation methods were static. Then I wouldn't even need a reference to the singleton to access the database.

Android :: Programmitically Accessing Internal Storage On Verizon HTC Droid Incredible

Apr 20, 2010

I'm trying to find information on how to programmatically access the HTC Droid Incredible's supposed 8GB of internal storage. To determine the external storage (SD Card) location, In examining HTC/Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, and HTC Dream/G1 phones, there (as would be expected) does not appear to be any mount point for such arbitrary internal storage. On these phones the internal storage is divided amongst /data, /system, and /cache partitions. The Incredible's internal storage is certainly not going to be located in /system. /cache is also unlikely given that it is globally non-readable/non-executable. I'd read in reviews that the phone will still be limited to 512MB or so for apps, suggesting that it is not simply a subdirectory of /data.

I've downloaded HTC Sync and that let me create a music file, but then I couldn't do anything with it.

My battery life is not so hot. I even have a new battery that Verizon swapped for me.

This morning I unplugged from a 6 hour charging session. Meter showed 100%. I checked my email and looked at some system settings on the phone. Thats about it.

Now my battery reads 87% This after one hour of unplugging?

Whenever I try to log into my youtube account on my Droid, it freezes up. I will open the Youtube app, press menu and click My account. Then it has 2 choices: 1) My email address, 2) Add account. When I click on my email it freezes up and eventually the Droid gives me the option to "Force close" it, as it is not responding. I also tried "Add account" and typed in my email address (which had already shown up as the first choice) and password, and it said "authenticating" and then froze up too.

Android :: Get Droid Database Setup?

Nov 20, 2010

Typically, for a WinForm or a Web App, I create the database and tables through the RDBMS or through a separate install process. However, I haven't seen anything of the sort in Android. All the examples I've seen have the database creation scripts embedded in an activity like this.

The best thing I can come up with now is to call a method from the data access constructor to check whether the database is installed - if not - install it. However, this seems like a lot of overhead to me.

What's the cleanest way to execute a android database install and then forget about it?
