View 1 RepliesI'm trying to insert values on Android SQLite Database. The question is, Iḿ trying to insert a word, the table has 3 columns, ID, WORD, COUNT. When I insert a word in the database, some method will verify if this word exists on the database. If yes, it will increment the value of COUNT for this word.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do you set/pass values from one screen (activity) to another? What I have in the R.layout.main view labeled Calculator contains the code for doing calculations. The main.xml contains the layout (view) of the main screen. I have created an options menu which has another screen which shows you setup (R.layout.setup). The dialogsetup.xml contains the layout (view) for it.
When you press the menu button, you get the options menu. If you select "Setup", then it will display the setup screen. Now what I need to do is take the values from the setup screen (radio button and text values) and place them in the main screen so that when you exit the setup screen and go back to the main screen, you can take those values and use them in your main code.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an app, and one activity has a worker thread that initiates a database query, and if there are results once it has returned I would like to send these results to a new activity that will display them. Unfortunately I don't see a way to pack the Cursor object into the Intent object that I am using to start the new activity. When I was doing Windows Mobile development in the past all I would do is edit the constructor for the window to pass in the data, I've searched around but I can't find a similar solution for Android. What is the best way to pass my database results into the new activity?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a ListActivity that uses a CursorAdapter to fill the rows in the view. I wrote a database helper class that gives me back results for common queries I make for my app, and it uses an SQLiteOpenHelper implementation I wrote to open the database. I use the open helper to open the database and get a cursor to pass to my CursorAdapter.
Here's a code snippet:
CODE:...................
The problem I'm having, that I didn't have before I implemented the open helper (before I just opened the database directly without a helper), is when I click on an item, which takes me to another activity, and then go back to this activity. When it initializes everything is fine, and my list is populated fine, but when I go back from the activity that follows, the list is empty and in the LogCat I see "Invalid statement in fillWindow()".
It appears from a few post I've seen that the reason is, when I requery the cursor, the database is closed. But I'm not closing it! I'm scratching my head on this one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently writing an Android game using surfaceView. I've optimized the game as much as possible and it runs quite smoothly. However, I have collision detection incorporated which is a bit messy. I would like to do collision detection by reading pixels directly from the canvas. Is this possible to do? The closest to this that I have found was to attach a new bitmap to the canvas using setBitmap. Then when I drew to the canvas, the bitmap would be updated. Would this be the way to go?

Is it possible to define a ListPreference in Xml and retrieve the value from SharedPreferences using getInt? Here is my Xml code...
And I want to get the value with something like: int val = sharedPrefs.getInt(key, defaultValue).
At the moment I have to use getString and parse the result.
From what I can incur out of the SharedPreferences documentation, I can update a preference, add one or clear all preference values in a shared preference file.
But I want to completely clear everything inside a shared preference file, not just the values, but the preferences they refer to as well.
I am working on an application and one feature that would make it really useful is the ability to share some information, but the other device may not be expecting the data to be sent. For example, if I am reading a really good book, and I realize that a friend may like it, I could use an application to send the data to him, so he could order the book from Amazon. But, since he isn't expecting the data, I would hate for the application to be polling a server every so often, as that will be needlessly draining the battery.Ideally it would be great if there was a way to make a phone call to the target device, send a data packet and end the call.If it could be done and prevent the phone from ringing, then it would be very useful to me.I am curious if there is some way to send data between devices without polling.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two activities or "screens".
The second activity has an AlertDialogBox with radiobuttons for selecting a single option.
I want that after an option has been selected from the second activity's DialogBox, it should be displayed on the first activity screen in a text-view.
That is, suppose the user chooses "Green" from the dialogbox in the second activity, then "Green" should be displayed on the first activity screen.
Whats the way to pass a radiobuttonvalue to the textview?
Is it possible to pass a JavaScript object from JavaScript to Java using addJavascriptInterface()? Something along these lines: var javaScriptObject = {"field1":"string1", "field2":"string2"}; JavaScriptInterface.passObject(javaScriptObject); How would such a call be captured on the Java side? I have no problem setting up the interface to send a string, but when I send an object, I receive null on the Java end.
