I did the manual Froyo update on my Moto Droid couple of days ago after following instructions on a reliable forum. However, I have been having problems like system hangs and video playback not smooth like before. I wanted to get back to my original 2.1 firmware and wait for the OTA update instead. Is there any way I can switch back to the old firmware update of 2.1?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI was doing a restore from another thread back to v6 and everything was going smoothly my phone went to a screen that says Downloading do no unplug...so after the software on the pc kept telling me no connection i would just keep trying again and after so many attemps it didnt let me retry anymore...so after trying hard reboot removing battery etc. this screen remains....
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter receiving the Froyo OTA update and realizing that it totally broke all of the features I use on my Droid (streaming audio, silent mode, etc.), I have downgraded to Bugless Beast v1.1.
I am finding that BBv1.1 is continuously downloading the OTA update from Verizon over and over in the background. If I go to Settings | About Phone | System Updates, I see a status bar indicating the download progress for the OTA update. The OS never requests to install the update, but it keeps downloading repeatedly. This is absolutely killing my 3G bandwidth, making web browsing nearly impossible. It is also killing my battery life (about 10 hours on idle).
How the hell do I stop BB v1.1 from downloading this OTA update that I do not want?
I have an application that I'd like to add auto-update functionality (its not in the marketplace). I have all the code in place that would check to see if there is an update available and then i call something like this: Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW ,Uri.parse(Configuration.APK_URL)); c.startActivity(intent); which starts downloading the file, although is there a way that I can programatically tell it to "open" the file to begin the installation process without the user having to go to the downloads and clicking on it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've scoured forums and seem to see only talk about people receiving the OTA, or using the About PhoneCheck for updates to get it, or downloading a custom rooted ROM with it.
I have a normal, unrooted D2 and I've not had an OTA, and every single time I try to do the check for updates, here is what happens:
Over wifi: The checking for updates spinning circle never stops.
Over 3g: Message Box: "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later."
I've had this since result the 28th of October. Am I missing something?
I've recently been getting into more security cautious habits with encryption and what not, due to this whole NSA/Big-brother is watching business... But I have a question (more may pop up as this discussion goes on).I am still getting a hang of all this encryption business. If I go ahead and do a full phone encryption with my GN2 where will I stand as far as backups to Dropbox/Copy/Google Drive/etc.?
I currently have photos and such backing up to copy, and I often move backups made through recovery to Dropbox and such. If I were to have photos automatically sync to copy or move system backups to dropbox wouldn't that render them basically useless as I am assuming they move out of the phone encrypted (not being decrypted as they exit).
The photos would be unusable anywhere besides my phone right? So moving them off my phone to share vacation photos for instance would be impossible, and if my phone were to crash they'd be irretrievable? Making the backup process pointless.
Wouldn't the back up be rendered useless as well, exactly when I might need said backup? If my phone were to ever crash or die for some reason, I would lose the encryption key, would even be able to do a full system restore through the recovery? It would seem that the encryption key wouldn't be kept with those back up files, so while it might place everything back in its correct place, it would still be unreadable. Or does it maybe keep the key in system files somewhere so that a full backup would restore the key as well?
I am also under the impression that I would not be able to flash through custom recovery either as the internal SD would be inaccessible from the recovery being it doesn't have the encryption key. I am currently running OmniROM and it is in a nightly stage still for my phone. I wouldn't be able to update nightly would I? I am assuming since it basically flashes/overwrites system each time, that I would be losing my encryption key and making everything besides system unusable then right?
And what about downloading ROMs to flash/update directly to my phone? As I download them from in browser or another app and they go to the default /downloads folder they would be encrypted. They wouldn't be accessible from there in recovery, but if I were to try and move them out of internal SD to the external SD they would retain encryption and still be inaccessible? So the only way to download ROMs and updates would be from PC and only move them to the external SD?
I just upgraded my xperia to android 2.1 and immediatley after that my phone keeps on restarting. is this normal? or should i reinstall the update again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to support Android 1.5 (Cupcake) for my application but I don't have any 1.5 device. I currently have a Motorola Droid with 2.0.1 and the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) with 1.6 (Donut).
What I want to do is to downgrade my G1 to the previous official OTA release of Cupcake. I have no experience in rooting an Android device, so I would appreciate if someone could give me a step by step guide on how to accomplish this?
OK, here is a step by step on how I rooted and flashed my Sprint HTC Hero. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE! Basically to make it easier I'm just going to post the links to the sites where I got the procedures or downloaded the files, it's that simple. Here is the step by step guide I used to root my hero's. Worked flawlessly on both, just follow each step EXACTLY. The copy and paste idea on step 7 is a great idea so you don't get any commands wrong. [GUIDE] How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero (Windows) - xda-developers After the root process is complete, anytime you want to get back intrecovery mode menu just turn your phone off and press and HOLD the home key as you power it back on.

View 12 Replies View RelatedGot a lot of funky, annoying little things going on, I think it may be time to wipe my DX and start over again. No contact data to worry about, I use MS Exchange Server. Got some purchased apps including Touchdown so I definitely want to preserve those with minimal issues in reloading them without having to purchase them again. I use ADW as my launcher, it would nice to save those settings. Is there a step by step guide or instructions for doing this? I've done this 4 or 5 times over the years with PC's, can't imagine this should be that difficult with the DX.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOn Youtube, there is a user named thenewboston who posts videos teaching basic computer programming that are aimed at total beginners like me. His tutorials are really easy to understand, because he goes through the process as if talking to an elementary school kid.nyway, he just started a tutorial series about developing iPhone apps. Maybe it's time someone from the Android camp did the same? Sure, there are many tutorials already available online, but they don't appeal to the common person, and the good video tutorials on Youtube are all more than one hour long. By doing something like this, more people would be attracted to try develop apps for Android.
