View 1 Replies View RelatedI went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I
I was informed of the new android update and the perks mentioned seemed pretty impressive. Upon installing the new update I regretted it instantly; the phone is slower, the layout is ugly and choppy unlike the sleek and smooth previous layout and the backup and restore is abysmal, all of my contacts are registered in the messaging (which also looks awful and is terribly confusing) but not in my contacts section. Is there anyway to reverse the upgrade, because I seriously dislike the new one. It is awful to put it bluntly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am still not able to save a picture when I send an intent asking for a photo to be taken. Here's what I am doing:
Make a URI representing the pathname
android.content.Context c = getApplicationContext();
String fname = c.getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath()+"/parked.jpg";
java.io.File file = new java.io.File( fname );
Uri fileUri = Uri.fromFile(file);
Create the Intent (don't forget the pkg name!) and start the activity
private static int TAKE_PICTURE = 22;
Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE );
intent.putExtra("com.droidstogo.boom1." + MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, fileUri);
startActivityForResult( intent, TAKE_PICTURE );
The camera activity starts, and I can take a picture, and approve it.
My onActivityResult() then gets called. But my file doesn't get written.
The URI is: file:///data/data/com.droidstogo.boom1/files/parked.jpg
I can create thumbnail OK (by not putting the extra into the Intent), and can write that file OK, and later read it back).
I want to create a dialog box where a paragraph is written using ScrollView and a close button ...
The dialog should be opened from the main activity by clicking on a button ..
I am new to the andriod platform an i have just got a HTC Desire with Virgin Mobile, PLEASE BE GENTLE.....
It does not seem to be sim locked as i have tried an Orange sim in the phone and it works. I have seen a Desire with Froyo on it and want to upgrade my phone. After trying all the guides on various forums i still cannot upgrade and VM is not offering the update OTA.
when trying the Goldcard method I get error wrong bootloader, when trying with the OTA named update.zip using recovery it also throws up an error and exits. What i have done now is rooted the phone using unrevoked3 method which has worked. i want to have a stock 2.2 phone, not bothered about keeping the root, if i put the OTA update.zip on the sd card (or goldcard as i have created one) and flash using the clockworkmod recovery which is now on my phone will this work or should i update the radio first and will i be able to get OTA updates in future?
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Software number 1.23.351.1
Bootloader 0.80.0000
when it boots it has the VM logo but apart from that there is no other branding on the phone. Obviously i dont want to brick the phone, i have done lots of reading and i am still unsure of how i can get my phone updated.
I was told several times during Sprint Chat session that I could go into a Sprint Store 2 weeks before my 7/1/2010 upgrade date and get my upgrade on an EVO. So I got put on a waiting list and my phone came in a week before 7/1 but they said there was no way they would do it even if I was told during a sprint chat session that I could. Was the agent on Sprint Chat who told me I could just a complete idiot?

Is there anyone else having this problem? Someone know why the phone suddenly reboots after this upgrade?
I have sendt mail to support from the phone and haven't got a answer from SE yet.
Does anyone know how to change the way text is written, to italics for example. my last phone did it and was wondering if my x10 could be changed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have HTC Desire, and I know that I have QuickOffice. The problem is when I put a word or excel file on the .quickoffice folder on my phone, nothing comes up on the mobile when I disconnect. Therefore I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a program where I can either write, or read written files like Word and excel files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to access camera pictures and camera pictures only. I could not find a specification of how the default camera application stores pictures...
1) Is /sdcard/DCIM a standard of any kind? On the Android devices I've used, it looks like the default camera app always writes to this location. Are there devices where pictures are written to a different location? 2) Is it specified that camera JPEGs will always be accessible on the file system? (And not in some private database for example?)
I'm hoping that if the above two are true, then I can simplify my code by simply reading the jpeg's in /sdcard/dcim. Or do I have to use MediaStore.Images.Media.query() for reliable access to camera images?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was running Android 4.4, rooted and CWM installed. Got a notification for 4.4.2 update being ready (like, a week after upgrading to 4.4), and tapped it. Phone reboots into debug mode to install it, but then CWM starts yelling at me saying this zip I'm trying to install is unsigned.
So I stop the upgrade. Phone reboots back into Android 4.4 and I don't get the update notification icon again.
Two questions:
- will I get the update prompt again? if not, can I do it manually while keeping all my stuff like happened on the 4.4 upgrade?
- is the Android 4.4.2 update really unsigned? is there a danger in accepting it?
I'm not sure what to do now since I didn't have CWM flashed when I did the upgrade to 4.4, which went completely smooth.
I'm not sure if there is a defect in my update... but upon completion of update, I noticed that when I drag down the notification panel, immediately below the status bar before the notifications, the words "(No service)" is displayed. I do not remember 1.6 having that... but is it suppose to show my network name? I hope someone could enlighten me. It is irritating having those words there not knowing what it means.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am developing a few mobile apps for different platforms including Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android and Symbian S60.I want my mobile apps to have the capability of checking for updates before starting and in case a new version is available, prompt the user to upgrade. Moreover in certain cases (like security patches), the user must be forced to update or the app won't work.Surely I can cook some code to achieve the task but I was wondering if there are already existing framework to serve the purpose so that I don't have to re-invent the wheel and test all over?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI asked my parents for a new phone, specifically a HTC Desire because I'm a gamer so obviously I wanted a phone with an awesome processor. But at the time of my birthday I got a HTC Wildfire (apparently the Desire was sold out at every store my dad went to). Now there's nothing wrong with the Wildfire. The battery life is great and it doesn't take to much space in my pocket but I felt a little bit disappointed when I checked out the market. The games I found were at the same level as the games I had on my old phone, a Sony Ericsson K550i. Also, when I checked Youtube and various other websites for game tips I couldn't find them. For example Buka, Robo Defense, ToonWarz, Speed Forge 3D etc etc. Is this because they are not available for the Wildfire because of the 589 mhz processor? If that is the case, will the maybe be available when the 2.2 update arrives (with the processor speed up)? Or do I need to download them from a specific site because all the games I find on the market are free.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to create a Java-written RESTFul Web Service, possibly using an eclipse plugin.
This service should be consumed by an android application, using the apache HttpClient.
But my question is, which is the best/ideal technology (server side) to implement this kind of web service?
My application writes data to a file in the SD card directly. There are no errors during the write. But, the file never shows up on the card, in the file browser (on the device - I use Glance). Where did the file go? When trying to browse the device from my desktop, I notice the USB Mass Storage option is missing guess that's expected since others in the forum explain that it was removed in this version. But, I can't get my PC to browse the memory card when it's stored in the phone. This all just seems to add up to a flaky memory management problem, but I can't be sure.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHad a quick question - Did the update yesterday morning with no issues other than I can not find some of the apps I used prior to the upgrade. I can find them in the market, but when I try to use my phone to download, it can not find them. Note: I used Astro to back up most of my apps on the phone, these couldn't be backed up since they were marked private. And they didn't display in my downloads either after the upgrade. Digital Clock Widget: Silent Time: If I use my friends phone (same version prior to my upgrade), no problem finding these apps. Suggestions? I could always downgrade back to the previous version, but I was having some freezing issues that I hope this upgrade fixed...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI the android site, in the application fundamentals, it is written that,
"A central feature of Android is that one application can make use of elements of other applications (provided those applications permit it). For example, if your application needs to display a scrolling list of images and another application has developed a suitable scroller and made it available to others, you can call upon that scroller to do the work, rather than develop your own. Your application doesn't incorporate the code of the other application or link to it. Rather, it simply starts up that piece of the other application when the need arises."
Do I need to create a new activity to view text written in a text box?
For example,
I want to see - "Hello"+ text written in a text box.
