These options are not included in the Official HTC 2.1 Release for the Hero. View 1 Replies View RelatedA while back I was looking through either the stock messaging app or Handcent and saw an option to auto reply to text messages, and you could change the text to make it say whatever you needed it to say. Today I tried looking for that option again and didn't find anything. I searched on the forum but only found other apps that I would need to install in order to do this. Hopefully someone knows what option I am talking about or uses it. If not, I can always use Tasker to do this, but prefer to use the messaging apps.Edit: So I found the answer about 30 seconds after posting this. I tried looking for that option in both the stock HTC messaging app and Handcent, which I use exclusively, and can't seem to find it.
I got an Android device specifically for Google integration, since my employer uses Google for 50% of our work (email, calendar, chat). Yet bizarrely, Android's Gmail app seems to be the weakest point of their platform.
IMHO (and please not let this become some kind of fanboy bashfest of someone trying to put in constructive criticism here):
The "Reply," "Reply All," and "Forward" buttons are very inconvenient -- at the bottom of the message, rather than a toolbar of some kind. This means that when I want to respond to one of those interminable email chains, I have to scroll past wads of old crap to reply. I've had intermittent success with forwarding attachments. It seems unpredictable when an attachment will forward and when it won't. Can someone shed some light into when it works? I suspect it has something to do with Outlook or other clients that attach files in non-standard ways. Very limited offline functionality. I would really prefer if there were an IMAP mode so I can review email while offline (e.g. on the plane or underground). Specific to the Droid: The D-Pad has so much potential, but instead all it does is jump from link to link in an email, which I do not find intuitive at all. At a minimum I'd think that the D-Pad would let you scroll; ideally, I'd like to see the D-Pad help solve the first problem described above (lack of access to the reply and forward buttons) so enough whining from me. I'd appreciate any solutions to the above (and "Shut up and deal with it" is not appreciated). It could be keystroke shortcuts I'm not aware of, apps that work better than the default Gmail program, pending app updates that take advantage of the Droid's unique hardware, etc.
I have the Eris with Verizon and my wife has the Hero with Sprint. Something happened a couple days ago where I can't text her anymore. I can call her and email her. And she can text me, but I can't reply or originate a text.I have deleted her from gmail contacts and phone contacts and re-entered her info fresh several times. Still nothing. I updated to os 2.1, but this happened days after that. Anyone having this issue too? Is it on my end or her end?
View 18 Replies View RelatedWhen I receive a call, I swipe the red slider to the left to ignore the call and for a second the list of texts come up, but only for a second. It is too fast for me to tap on a choice, so it sends the caller to the voicemail which is normal I think.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBasically I'm trying to get my Wife/teens to stop using carrier text messaging without having to explain to them how to use two different applications to send texts.
Doesn't have to be Google voice, really any app that will act as the default messaging app and when texts come in over the Verizon number and they reply to the text the recipient gets the "free" text number to respond to will work - Gvoice just seemed like the easy choice.
What I'm looking to do is change the reply-to number that gets sent to text message recipients from the default messaging app, Go SMS or Handcent SMS. What I do NOT want to do is have two separate text messaging apps. I want all texts to come from one application.
The idea here is to avoid paying Verizon text messaging charges and eventually block carrier text messaging altogether by using Google voice to send/receive all SMS.
Ideally this is how it would work - When a friend sends me a txt using my Verizon number I get a notification. I click reply and then press send and one of two things happens:
1. Instead of sending the text over Verizon's network the text automatically sends it through Google voice and my friend sees my Google voice number and replies to it, essentially encouraging them to use the new phone number but seamless from my perspective.
2. Another alternative is to send the text message over Verizon's SMS network but have the reply-to number be my Google voice number so when they reply it will go through Google voice.
While #1 will more quickly reduce the number of text messages sent through the carrier network what's most important is I'm using the same app for all texting.
I don't mind purchasing an app that can do this either.
I using a rooted Galaxy Nexus.
I've searched the forum and can't find anything similar so I'm assuming it's most likely a set up issue on my phone. I hope someone can suggest something to help?I occasionally have issues replying to text messages! When I send the messages, I receive a message saying: 'message not sent', even though I have signal at the time. In order to send the message, I have to leave the messaging app (SE default) and go to my contacts list, find the person and send the message as a new message.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf someone sends me a group text, I usually end up with a bunch of replies from people I don't know. Same thing happens to everyone I send a group text to - they end up with a bunch of replies from people they don't know. This might be surprising to the software developers, but most of us have more than two friends, and those friends don't all know each other. It would be awesome if this feature could be turned off so that people aren't unnecessarily subjected to spam from others, who certainly don't intend for a large audience to see their replies.
This usually just results in confusion about who they're getting all these messages from, and I end up getting a bunch of "who is this" messages too. It's a really dopey feature because it definitely destroys privacy, and now my friends/family think they can't reply to my texts without others being able to read their responses.
Even I think twice about responding to a text now because I don't want a bunch of people who I don't know reading a response I intend only a friend to see, and I really don't want to end up with about 15 "who's this?" texts.
Is there any way to turn this off, or are we stuck with this "feature"?
Every now and then when I get a text and try to reply, none of the letter buttons will work. From what I've tried, the only way to fix it is to exit all the way out of the messaging application and go back in. The buttons will animate like they are being pushed, vibrate, and even show swype trails and word suggestions, but none of my words will show up on the screen.
I haven't figured out the specific instances when this happens. It seems a little random but I think it may only happen when I lock the screen without leaving the messaging application first, I get a text, and try to reply immediately from the app. But I'm really not sure - it might just be random.
I just go hero and I went to the Pop3 setting and started to insert my microsoft pop3 account setting in the fields as prompted. The password was not correct so it would not pull in my emails.I can't seem to find out how to go back into my pop3 settings since the HTC Hero email application will not let me view my previous settings to make changes.There must be a way, I am just not seeing it.Please help me with the correct procedure.It tells me to select my email account from the drop down screen in my created email account, so, I select the email address that it shows that I created.

The reason i want to change it is because my gmail app only opens email from that account, and I used a new gmail account to register my phone with that was specifically for my contacts, and now i cant check my other gmail accounts email. anyone know a good solution without having to format?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it still won't work properly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUnless it is just my settings, when I text I can send a text and receive a quick reply and can reply back and forth. However, if I back out of messaging (go to main screen to any other app) the reply that I receive has lost the area code prefix and my replies will not be delivered. All my contacts have been entered with the 10 digit number but like I said, if I leave the messaging session after my first send, the contact number is truncated to 7 digits.

View 1 Replies View Relatedright, have had my hero for several months and only this week gmail has started playing up. I receive emails however when I delete this is not actually reflected in my account and still there when I logon via internet. That means volume count of messages remain high and eventually they return back into my gmail account on the phone. When I try and reply to an email it simply states "sending" without actually sending. Not sure if this is ROM specific, I have used a couple now with the same issue (Villain 10.3 + Superhero 2 - although admittedly they have been authored by the same people).

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I got the original 2.2 update for my Droid, whenever I get a new text message and slide down the notification bar and select the new message, it takes me to the main text message window rather than the actual thread to reply to the person. It is really annoying because it requires an extra step. I figured it would be fixed with the second 2.2 update but it didn't. I called Verizon and they called Motorola and nobody knew of the problem so they shipped me out a new phone and it still does it! I am not sure if I am the only one experiencing this or if its normal. It doesn't do it 100% of the time but closer to 90% probably.

I had no default defined so that when I tapped a jpg file I got a popup menu asking which app I wanted to open it with. Someway or another I managed to check the box that says use this as the default and tapped the app before I could uncheck it. So now the built in picture viewer is set as the default and I would like to clear that so I get the popup box again.
