Sprint HTC Hero :: Remove Bloatware

May 8, 2010

I rooted my phone last night following the guide and the help of a wonderful forum member and it went smoothly. I'm still on 1.5 and will stay here awhile 'till I get the nerve again to do a 2.1. I need to get used to the fact that I did just root my phone.

With all that said I have root explorer on my phone. I was going to use the list of safe apps that can be removed and I was going to cut and paste them into a backup directory in case I do something wrong. Does this sound safe and cautious? Or I was thinking about using Fresh Kitchen but I think I have to have that Rom on my phone and I don't want to go there yet. I would appreciate any suggestions on the safest way and easiest way to get rid of those apps.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Delete Phone Bloatware Without Rooting?

Apr 26, 2010

Is there a way to remove some of the Sprint Bloatware without rooting the phone. I know some of those apps Sprint probably sold their soul to have on the phone but some of it is just trash. I'm not looking to clear up memory or any performance improvements. I just want to do some house cleaning of junk that I will NEVER use. I was hoping for maybe an unlock code or something simpler then the root/rom way to go. I'm very satisfied with the way things are working now but some of that garbage has got to go. I know junk is standard bill of fare on new computers but you can go through and systematically delete the garbage but I'm a little offended to have something that I bought and paid for and can't even clear out the junk and personalize it to my taste.

Sprint HTC Hero : Get Back To Stock 2.1 / Way To Delete All Bloatware On Fresh 2.3

Sep 4, 2010

So I rooted a little while back & have only been having problems. For whatever reason, the only rom I can get to work is Fresh 2.3. I've tried installing CM1, the nightlies, both the blue & vanilla themed version, and darchroid 2.8. I couldn't even get CM1 and darchroid 2.8 to get past the white htc screen. Is there any way I can get back to stock 2.1 and unroot? I'm hoping if I do that and try rooting again then maybe things will work. Also, is there any way to delete all the bloatware on fresh 2.3? I love the performance of the rom but I can't deal with how little memory it leaves me.

HTC Incredible :: Cant Remove Bloatware

Sep 5, 2010

I am running rooted incredible with 2.x radio, and virtuous' 2.2 ROM. Its working... well, kinda slow... In fact, its lagging (? unhappy face )

I am new to rooting, just started messing with it yesterday. I followed JONAMERICA's site to rooting, reflashing to stock with S-OFF, and going with the manual radio and rom update.

Then, to delete apps I followed his instruction as well, but whenever I type in command prompt "cdsd ools" it says directory not found...

I want to remove voice dialer, news, google search, gmail, and friend stream. I know that Virtuous has a EZcustomizer, but it doesnt remove these apps that I want off.

Also, any ideas as to why its working so slow? Like... it lags when i go from screen to screen, loading apps take a bit longer than when I was on 2.1 last night... once again, slightly unhappy face...

I followed everything else to the letter...

Heres a link to his site, if anyone doesnt know what I'm talking about...Remove bloatware from HTC Droid Incredible 2.2 - Technology - Jonamerica.com

HTC Desire :: Remove Bloatware From Rooted

Sep 24, 2010

I've just root my Desire using the unrevoked v3.21, and i intend to remove the bloatware like teeter, stock, talk and plurk once and for all. so i went to the market and download the root explorer and titanium backup. When i try to uninstall using the titanium backup, it freeze and reboot my phone, and the bloatware are still there. so i tried using root explorer to delete the apk and the odex in the system/app folder, but after i've deleted them, i reboot my phone and see they are still there. Is there any ways to remove the bloatware for good? I've search around and came across this "adb shell" that can be use to remove the bloatware. May i know how it works?

Motorola Droid :: Remove Bloatware From Froyo

Aug 28, 2010

When I originally rooted my phone (I had 2.1 at the time), I was able to remove all the bloatware i didnt want by going into Root Explorer and changing each application's file extension from .apk to .bak.

Now, with Froyo, I tried to do the same thing, but the only apps that show up in /data/app are the ones that I have installed off the market.

Am I looking in the correct directory? How do I go about removing all this crap in Froyo?

Samsung Vibrant :: Which Apps - Bloatware - To Remove

Aug 15, 2010

I rooted my phone, installed lagfix, and removed some bloatware from the phone via Titanium. The phone was stupid fast after doing this, almost everything loaded up instantly. However I started to notice some things weren't functioning properly. Apps on the marketplace would not download, I would try to download Launcher Pro and nothing would happen, nothing downloaded. Tried this with other apps, same thing. I rebooted the phone and noticed upon reboot that a force close/app error happened, not sure which app it was but it had google in it. I have no idea what app it could have been since I only removed apps if I knew what they were like Slacker, Kindle, Sims etc. Maybe removing the Sims caused the error?

I also noticed that emails wouldn't send (or would take a long time) even when I was on wifi. And the XDA app wouldn't work. I would go to make a post, click the text input box, but it wouldn't let me move the text cursor. I would press the keyboard and nothing happened.

I removed a crap ton of apps but they weren't anything major. I also removed the samsung widgets since I would never use those. Guess I should have asked on the forums before removing so much stuff.

Which apps are okay to remove? Any ideas on which app could have caused the market to mess up?

What processes or apps can I remove without affecting the way the phone functions (i.e. google partner setup). Is it possible to create a program to remove all unwanted processes without flashing a new ROM.

I'll also like to increase the connectivity speed to HSPA+.

Addition of new information.

I came across this article on XDA's main page and thought I share it. It is self explanatory and I think it should work on any version.

Droid Explorer
Check This Tool Out I Found! Android is Getting Convenient

Droid Explorer is a tool to manage your rooted android device with the simplicity of Windows Explorer. You can browse every file on your Android device, much like the infamous app "Root Explorer" does. I think this is very much so a handy tool for those that are in need of removing some software....like the bloatware that comes preintalled. Some of you may even want to add stuff, like Google Maps and so on. Try it out!!

I highly recommend standalone for Windows users.....
