Sprint HTC Hero :: Detailed Calendar - Tasks Info
Oct 9, 2009
As you can see from my sig below, I'm a longtime PalmOS user. webOS has some nice features, but unfortunately the PIM apps are a major step backward from the PalmOS versions. SO, now I'm considering switching from webOS to Android and the Sprint Hero. The key for me is finding some detailed description or screenshots or video that show how to create events in the Android calendar and how to manage tasks. I really need a step-by-step explanation so that I can judge whether Android will be more efficient than webOS in using the calendar. I do like what HTC has done with Sense and Scenes, which would help me keep my calendar more easily accessible than in webOS.

Im running Home++ right now but my main question is for some apps id like, instead of just the widget, a more detailed kind of deal? Like ive seen my friends layar app for example and instead of just the widget it was a more detailed display, i am wondering how to implement this(to apps applicable) onto my screens(in the works of customizing them). Id really appreciate any input on the matter, and please if this was brought up in another thread direct me to it.

I would like to know some thing about the calendar, can you set appointments to reoccur in, say 6 days time or something like that?
Also is there a place to store PIN numbers for cards or passwords etc. I'm useless with numbers and often need to check my current phone's "code memo" as they call it. (i have the SE K850i)
One last question, can you save tasks and set alarms to them?

For those looking to see what Android 2.1 brings to the Hero, I just spent about 6 hours compiling this with full details: Detailed Mega Review Of Android 2.1 On Our HTC Hero Discover All The New Features (With Lots Of Screenshots)
My favorite new feature is probably the speed-to-text but the absence of lag is a close 2nd.

If you having a tough time finding the download link, just scroll to the bottom of the page and it will be the first main body of text (blue in color) from the bottom! Also, this is NOT Mac supported as mentioned below, pretty much the only bad part...
Well I've had alot of people messaging me about converters for music, video, photos etc and I decided to just post up a thread for people to ask questions if they need to. Anyways, the best converter that I could reccomend, HANDS DOWN for any needs whether they be for your phone or not is the SUPERC converter which can be found here
With it you can convert virtually any media type into any other media type. For starters here are some steps...
1. Drag your file to be converted into the que.
2. Double click on it to bring up the detailed info.
3. Select the output you want from the drag down menu at the top left
4. Match up the info for the video and audio (if applicable) to the details you brought up about the clip. Yes this is a bit techy, but its really simple, just read and click on the buttons. If your framerate or bitrate doesnt match up, always pick the lower one. I.E: If you have a framrate of 96, and the options are 108 and 90, always pick the lowest of the two.
5. Just click convert! and wait until it gives you an output file size!
Yes it may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but its great to be able to convert anything into, well, anything. I use it for all my converting needs, and even if your not a techy person, even if you dont know what a bitrate is (shame on you! haha jk) its still a great program which is easy to use, whether you have circuit boards instead of brains or not.

In my gmail account i have "my contacts" that are synced to the phone, and in there i have most of the contacts with all sorts of info like, address, birthday, anniversary, website, and all that jazz. when i sync it to my phone, i only get basic info like address, number and email. the birthday, anniversary and website don't syn. why is that and how can i fix that? i would hate to go through my phone and edit all that info manually in the phone. also, i read somewhere that you can choose what contacts from gmail are synced. if you go into people, then groups, hit menu, and then sync group you can choose what is synced (all contacts, my contacts, and whatever groups you have). i had that option before, and now it is gone.

Is there a way to get owner info on the lockscreen? For example, I'd like it to read "If found, please return this phone to MyName. Phone: xxx-xxx-xxxx, Email: MyName@gmail.com". Can this be done with the stock HTC lockscreen? Are there others that are as secure, but provide this extra functionality? I'm rooted, if that makes a difference.

Is there a PC desktop application that can sync with Android calendar, tasks, and reminders?
I know on Windows Mobile I can use Outlook for this.
But I don't know how is this on Android.
I am a WinMo user and seriously thinking to jump move to Android because HTC Desire will be released soon

I'm using the Jorte Calendar and Tasks on my Incredible and for the calendar syncing seems to only work in one direction...
When I update a calendar item online using Google Calendar, it syncs to the Jorte calendar on my phone
When I update a calendar item on the phone using Jorte, it does NOT sync to my Google calendar online (I've even tried the export function)
My tasks won't sync at all between the two in either direction.

I finally got the Calendar to load everything into the Pure Calendar Widget, but the widget is supposed to also include all of my tasks from my Got To Do - but none of my tasks are in the widget?
I selected Got To Do in the Task section of the widget setup, included all tasks with and without folders...
Any ideas why I can't see any of my tasks in the widget? (and I already checked, based on the timetable and when things are due some of the tasks should be there now)

What's a good calendar widget that integrates with Remember the Milk (RTM)? Specifically, I'm looking for something with an agenda view and then 3-4 tasks under it. Or someway to show both a calendar and RTM tasks in the same widget.

Being a long time OUTLOOK user on my Windows PC, I am use to my previous smartphone syncing these items with my phone. As of now, I see there is a google sync app, but unfortunately this doesn't work with the latest Office 2010 Public Beta. I have yet to hear of a time frame when support will be announced. So it looks like I am no solution running Outlook 2010 any syncing anything to my phone.
What are users on here doing for a desktop to droid sync for your TODO/Calendar, etc? I like Google Calendar, just don't like having to open a web browser on my pc to access my calendar.

I'm having some issues with utilizing my Google Calendar on my Hero.
First off, I've always used my company's Exchange Server for Contacts and Calendar, simply because my Outlook is always open at work and it's easier than opening a web browser to access my Google Calendar and Contacts. The problem I've been seeing lately with my Hero, for some reason, is that the Exchange syncronization is out of whack. There are times where it acts as it should (it's set to sync "As Items Arrive") and other times where it won't sync for 12 hours. I'll look at my phone, and emails and calendar entries that have either been deleted, changed or added are not sync'd with the server.
Yesterday, I realized that Google has a sync client that can sync the Exchange with your Google Calendar, so I set that up on my work computer to sync every 10 minutes with my Exchange Server, and then set my phone to only sync/show the Google Calendar, figuring that I could bypass the potential Exchange Issues. I gave this setup a try, and the calendar became virtually unusable. It would take 40 seconds to open and perform any kind of action. Once opened, it would hang. I also noticed that under "Date Syncronization" in the Google tab, the Calendar was continually trying to sync (it was always showing the little sync circle) and the icon was a mainstay at the top of the screen. I've always had the Google calendar sync with the phone (no idea why, since I never had it viewed in the Calendar app) and I never saw this behavior (interesting note....I finally figured out why I was getting dual notifications on things even after dismissing....even though the calendar isn't being "shown" in the app....the data is still being synced and the notification will still go off...duh on my part). Could this constant syncing and hanging of the app be a result of the calendar continually polling my Exchange Server? I'd really like a way to utilize the Google Calendar sync on my phone without actually having to use the UI of Google Calendar on the computer.
