Sprint HTC Hero :: Type In Landscape The On Screen Keyboard Is Really Laggy
May 10, 2010I have a CDMA Hero and when ever I type in landscape, the on screen keyboard is really laggy. The portrait keyboard is fine. I use handcent sms and I've tried to turn off sound and vibration still no luck. I've tried to use the default messaging app and its the same...any solutions?
I've tried use the stock HTC keyboard and better keyboard with no luck, both still lag while in landscape mode.
I have rooted the phone and flashed Fresh 2.0d.

Feb 19, 2010I searched for this but couldn't find a solution. Is there anyway to get the home screen and subsequent side screens to go into landscape mode? I've seen some other Android Phones/Tablets doing this and would like to be able to do so. Or does anyone know if this will be an option in the 2.1 update? I heard that the Droid used to do this, and then some update messed it up, but then saw it going into landscape mode on the video they posted today of the Droid running 2.1.

May 24, 2010When outside or in the car, the landscape brightness of my Eris is rather dim making viewing difficult but when I switch back to the portrait view the screen is of normal brightness. Inside, switching from portrait to landscape viewing is not an issue. This was happening while on 1.5 as well. I have looked and played around with settings but can not seem to find a solution. Any suggestions?Another quirk, that arose with 2.1, is the keyboard. It seems to easily go to all caps, numbers, or exits with the slightest variance off of the A, M or the space key. My daughter's Eris is having the same issue with the keyboard. Any suggestions for a better keyboard?Eris is my first smart phone and I am loving the experience.

The only tome I had any frustrations was getting the clips unhooked also removing the cracked piece from the super strong adhesive. Nov 7, 2010I got my phone rooted and got velocity on the phone, but i noticed some issues within the first few days. the 50% bug seemed to get worse, before i could do the airplane thing and it would be good for about a week, now when i do it it will last less than a day and i cant get more than a day of battery life with not using my phone much at all, before i could get about 2 days with regular use.
when i slide the keyboard out an the screen switched to landscape the all the icons and widgets would disapear then re-appear about 15 seconds later, it does the same thing when closing the keyboard. some times it gets stuck and just flashes the screen with no icon or wigets and the only way i can fix it is rebooting the phone.
the flashlight app that comes with it works perfectly but when i close the app the notification lights keeps flashing and changing colors it wont stop untill i reboot the phone. everything else seems to be working fine for me. p.s. the ad blocking in the apps is a very nice addon
Android : App To Get A Landscape Virtual Keyboard That Doesn't Take Up Entire Screen?
May 5, 2010Is there an app to get a landscape virtual keyboard that is shorter? The text box above the kb is strangely huge and some if not all of that space should just show the page you are entering the text into.
If it's ebuddy, it should show one line of text and let you see the last message sent to you. If it's on a web page, then omit the text box entirely, we can read what we are typing into the boxes on the page last I checked. Anyone know of anything? It's a major annoyance for me.
HTC Hero : No Keyboard In Landscape While Start In Portrait
Mar 6, 2010If I go through the following sequence then tap "Search Text" the keyboard will not display - is something broken?
1. Start in Portrait
2. Tap Browser
3. Tap Google Search
4. Input text
5. Tap desired Website
6. Rotate Hero to Landscape
7. Tap Menu
8. Tap More
9. Tap Find on Page
10. Tap "search text" - nothing happens!
The above works if I stay in Portrait and if I do not rotate to landscape until after step 9.
Samsung Epic 4G :: Home Screen Rotate To Landscape Mode For Keyboard Only
Sep 6, 2010Home screen used to do landscape immediate and always. Now it doesn't do landscape at all unless I slide the keyboard out and it pops into landscape immediately. Then when I close the keyboard it goes back to portrait even when I'm holding the phone in landscape. Not sure how to fix this, help please.

Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

Feb 18, 2010I would've been happy as a passive forum user and keeping up with other's posts but my Hero has recently developed a problem, prompting me to sign up and get some advice from you guys who have more experience.
Basically in the last couple of days my soft keyboard has randomly decided to change how it displays and works! 3 main problems:
- sometimes soft keyboard does not go into landscape mode when phone is orientated (seen suggestions on here of calibrating keyboard and installing bubble and running the bubble clibration: tried both of these but has not solved problem).
- when phone does decide to let me in landscape mode no text is displayed as you type....only when you switch back to portrait do you see what you have typed
- when in text message mode the predictive text box has moved and is now being overlayed on the text message body, so basically i cannot see what i am typing! (the predictive text box used to be displayed above the text message body). This problem is the most annoying out of the two!
Sprint HTC Hero :: Taking Picture Using Trackball
Apr 7, 2010I just got my Hero a few days ago, previously I had an Instinct. So far I love the Hero, but one of my few complaints about it is having to take pictures by pressing the trackball. The trackball just feels odd to press and most of the time I have to press it multiple times for it to take a photo. Anyone have any solutions to this? I doubt there is a way to change this in the settings, but is there an app or something that uses a more convenient button for photos?

Feb 22, 2010I have my screen timeout set to 30 seconds but now it doesn't seem to want to turn off like it should even when the phone is sitting still. I also turned off the email notifications so I wouldn't hear the sound in the middle of the night and it still plays the sound.Are these things that need a reboot before they take effect or might there be an actual problem with the phone?

Feb 19, 2010My phone died in the middle of taking video. Came home a couple hours later, plugged my phone into the charger. I turned the phone on, after it was plugged in. My phone froze during the little HTC and Hero intro. After the freeze, it was back on, but my screens were all back to factory settings! It also asked me to calibrate my keyboard, and the little popup bubbles to guide the user with their "new phone" came up! All my apps were gone!! I lost ALL of my contacts! The only thing that stayed was my pictures and videos. It doesn't make any sense to me.

May 2, 2010I use the bluetooth audio in my truck on my drive to and from every work every day with Iheartradio on. Every time I receive a call when I hang up my phone automatically starts the music player and just starts playing songs. It's extremely annoying. I even deleted all my music off the phone hoping this would stop it, and now it just plays ring tones. I've used an app killer, etc. and it still does it.
