I just picked up the Hero about a week ago and am having issues with Google Maps and the touchscreen. If I open Maps and leave the phone sit for a second to where the lock screen comes on, the touchscreen stops working. I am able to close the app using the buttons and trackball, but have to restart the phone to get touchscreen functionality...

Started with EXTBlue 09sept, had the phone freeze up a couple times when exiting sleep mode. Flashed a nightly over that, problem persisted. Also had it randomly restart a few times. From there, started over by wiping everything, and flashing a nightly (091710 I think). Still had the problem, found the so-called "6.1" update, wiped again and went with that. I still have the original problems, and now it's also freezing up on the camera screen. Otherwise happy with the performance and such, any suggestions?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is random, not necessarily towards the Hero, but I was listening to a podcast and they were talking about how the phone can be used completely from just the buttons/trackball, so I tried it on my Hero. I can scroll to any page, but I can't pick an icon.
It's interesting that the phone CAN do a lot without the touchscreen, but I think it's extremely difficult. Even if they WORK, they are so difficult to use, and the touchscreen is so easy, that I can't imagine anyone using the trackball more than the screen.
I was just wondering what you guys thought, even though the trackball does a lot, I really don't like using it EVER (unless I wrote a big word and I want to change a letter). And if they made a "Curve-style" phone with buttons and a smaller screen that wasn't touch, I think it would be horrible!
I am just wondering if it is possible to put live wall papers without custom rom? I am rooted, I have tried the new fresh and older versions, they slow my phone done, and it freezes all the time. I am on a rooted/stock version on 2.1 and would like to use live wall papers still? Do I have a chance? I don't want to just flash one of the lwp updates from the rom section without asking here.

I have to take the battery out to start the phone again. I did a reinstall on binaries and my wireless tether is version 1.6.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI wonder if ne one had an major issue with their touch screen before like I had with mine. So I decided to post this little story. Let me start off with a little background info. I got my droid november 6, 5 46am central time zone. don't ask me how but the vzw dude was letting me earlier cuz I had work. I was so happy that day leaving t mobile I did love my g1 but wen I read all about the droid I felt likt I had to leave her and move on. She did do a lot for me but time tells all and it was my time go and move on.Untill two months ago (Present time I'm talking in) I realized not everyone has the bubbly keyboard. I saw friends at my unit (I'm in the army reserves) that bought the droid a couple of months after me had flat keyboards n they were bitching bout how flat it was. I agreed with them since I was woth a g1 the keyboard was a bit flat but nothing to were its such a pain, so my friend shows me his keyboard and I looked shocked played with it was like wow and I pulled my n did a side by side side comprasion and this before I saw the bubbley keyboard thread on here. So unforunately my toucscreen starting doin its own thing like it was ghost writer and spazzing out. I had no control over it this happened monday nite and I was dreading it that I will end up replacing it. But it would not let me do nothing.I couldn't go ne where on my screen it would randomly hit different icons to the point were sum times it would call my contacts. I only had control over the physical buttons. So on Tuesday during work I fought the ghost writer to let get to setting a do a system restore. First minute of the set up was ok but right wen it finish and I was on the home screen again. I was like FUDGE I don't want to replace my rare Droid. After work I replaced it, I was real pissed I had the bubbly keyboard and (something I didn't noticed untill I got my replacement) the golden plated volume side button. I miss my precious rare droid. I was soo proud to be first non employee to have the droid in houston.

Just wanted to know if I can freeze the app "HTC Lock Screen 1.00" If I should expect some force closes or the phone will explode. and if it by any chance brings back the stock lock screen. If not if it will run right away after defrosting.
I do know about widgetlocker, tried it didnt like and I dont wanna have a bigger app or service running for just locking.
Does anyone know a guide/video for how to replace the Touchscreen (digitizer) on a Hero? Mine has stopped responding towards the bottom and does not have warranty.

It onn's but the touch screen was "crazy" it was inverted, to push the button on the down left corner of the screen I must touch in the same spot in the upper right corner, to scroll home screen right I must slide my finger left etc.

I dried it out and left it off. After 24hrs I turned it back on and the phone needed to reset it self, this was done. My phone has totally reset now but the screen don't work. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have got one big problem with the touch input of my Hero. The screen is too sensitive. I can navigate on the screen while my finger is about 5 cm away from it. I can choose what I want, but the screen takes the right horizontal position of my finger, but not the vertical. Anything I want to take, the screen takes the one on the bottom of the screen. The same when I want to write a message or something like this. I choose the "W" or "E", but the screen takes the "X" or "C". If the display goes on Standby and I wake it again, everything is good for a few seconds, but than the same mistake comes again. I already tried to wipe and install a new MCR, but nothing helps. I think, but I am not sure, that I have that problem after I have installed the htc keyboard on android 2.1, as I tried it for a few hours.
View 5 Replies View Relatedafter installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

View 1 Replies View Relatediv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.

I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. All I really need this phone for is GMail, Google Voice, Google Turn-by-Turn, Web browsing and a few core apps like SplashID and Evernote.

Sprint said itself that the Hero/Moment would be getting software updates. They didn't say 2.0, but HTC already said they're skipping 1.6 for 2.0. It would be suicide for Sprint to go to 1.6 when Verizon will have 2.0 in 3 days.
Yay Sprint! Now don't be too laggy in releasing this! My phone has SO many bugs it's not even funny!
