Sprint HTC Hero :: Pressing Home Opens Navigator Application

Aug 3, 2010

I am tonight at a party and a good friend asked to use my phone for the music I've got on it (16g class 4 SDHC updated twice a week ). I after a long conversation of "If you break my sh-- I will have to kick someone's butt." I gave it to her and she plugged it in. Long story short, somehow it was knocked off the table and into a puddle of what I will, for lack of a better word, call fluid. I assume it was beer but still am unsure. Now, I've dried it out using the "Rice Trick" and leaving it on top of the heater vent, put the battery back in turned it back on and the screen was totally un-responsive. I tried a battery pull to see if that would fix it, but to no avail, it was still un-responsive. I then tried the factory reset (Home+Back+Tap Power>Clear>Reset). Now when the phone boots up and everything loads, Navigator will load and start up all on it's own and when I press the Home button Navigator starts up again. Tried the factory Reset again and the same problem. I was going to just re load the 2.27.651.5 from sprint (I never deleted it from my PC when it first dropped) but when I connected my Hero to my PC it wouldn't detect the Hero, It would charge, but not Mount/Sync/Share.

Android :: Leaving An Application By Pressing Home

Aug 14, 2010

I've recently been getting user complaints that when they leave my app by pressing the 'Home' key, my app continues to play sounds like it is supposed to, but when they go back to the app, a new one opens, but the old one is still running in the background. I have noticed this sometimes myself too, but only recently (my app has been on the market for a while now). I've done some testing myself and noticed that when a new instance of the app is opened after pressing 'Home' then starting the app again, pressing the 'back' key will go back to the original instance of the app that was opened. This means that the original instance of the app was not killed, but a new one was just opened over it. Has anyone else experience something like this?

Android :: Program Development - Create Home Screen When Application Opens

Nov 4, 2010

I am developing droid apps with eclipse (new to both) and have a basic Layout question. When using the layout tab (rather than the coding tab) in my main.xml, I am trying to create a home screen for when my app opens.
There is going to be the logo at the top center, then 3 simple buttons below, all centered. How do I go about formatting the Logo so it maintains a size relative to the person's screen size, and stays in the center?

I don't want to write sloppy code to where my program looks fine (UI wise) on my screen and is poorly formatted on other's screens. Also, is there good documentation explaining all of the Property values in the layout view?

HTC Hero :: Phone Opens Wrong Application

Nov 27, 2009

Sorry for the double thread but no one has replied to this in the G2 section, hoping that this issue carries over to the Hero and someone can help/advise I've had this problem multiple times now. I'll click on messages for example and it will open up something else I had open hours ago like gallery or my outlook email exchange. I close the incorrect program with the back key or the home key and try again and it repeatedly does it. :/ I'm starting to think I have a dodgy handset because no one else seems to be having this problem.Am I closing programs wrong in the first place? I use the home key to close them most of the time.Anyone else had this glitch?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Move / Delete Application Icons From Home Screens?

Apr 15, 2010

I know how to remove widgets... you long press on them to move them/delete them. My problem is this: I don't know how to remove regular icons on the Hero. On the Moment, everything was simply long press to remove. On this, long pressing the application icons on my home screen(s) just opens the associated programs. I kind of wanted to move them around, I don't wanna have to delete a scene everytime I want to move one icon around.

In short: How do you move/delete application icons from the home screens? (long pressing doesn't work for me)

I need this service to be running throughout the life span of the application ie, all the activities in the application. Is there any elegant way to do that other than stopping the service in onPause() method of all the activities?

Android :: Game Goes Blank After Pressing Home And Restarting

Apr 6, 2010

I am making an Android game with an Activity called Game, a SurfaceView called GameView and a Thread called GameThread. The Game's onCreate(), I make a new GameView, which makes a new GameThread, where all the game logic and canvas drawing is carried out. However, I'm having some lifecycle difficulties. When I press back and restart it, it works fine, but when I press home and restart it, all I see is a blank screen. Here are the GameView's onSurfaceCreated() and onSurfaceDestroyed(): @Override public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) {
mThread.mRunning = true;
mThread.mWidth = getWidth();
if(mThread.mWidth > 550) mThread.mWidth = 550;
mThread.mHeight = getHeight();

mThread.start();
} catch(IllegalThreadStateException e).......

HTC EVO 4G : How To Reinstall Sprint Navigator?

Oct 11, 2010

I know you get this time and time again (I know, I've been reading and searching here and xda all weekend) ....... but I really have researched this. I saw a link somewhere, now i can't find it, I didn't flag it cuz I didn't know I would need it at the time. I rooted using unrevoked 3.3 (? The newest one), uninstalled all the programs I didn't wanted, played with rooted stock for a while, liked it, then flashed a custom rom. All that ended up OK. I am trying out myn warm twopointwo . I like it I have no idea how to reinstall sprint navigation!! The new rom doesn't have it (super cook that most Rome remove the bloatware ) The closest I have seen for a apron is to flash Fresh, it puts the sprint apparently in a aspirate folder on the SD card, then coy and install it back into my current rom. I really don't want too have to wipe, just to come back to the same thing.

Android :: Pressing Home Or Back Buttons From Main Activity / Causes App To Stop Unexpectedly

Nov 13, 2010

This is difficult for me to diagnose because the Log doesn't provide the offending code line that indicates what caused it.Running the app in the Emulator seems to work OK until I press Home or Back from the Main Activity. Using Back between the activities in the program seems to work OK, it only fails at the Main. I don't have the app finished yet so I haven't loaded it to a device yet.The Log says there was a null pointer exception so I would like to find why.The log points to the android routines (and I don't appear to have the source for those routines in the emulator-most but not all and these are refering to those I can't access). The log gives up at one point and says "11 more".It would be nice to see the remaining 11 in the hopes that one of them points to the line in my code that caused the offense.I'm looking for ideas on ways to find the error and hopefully cure it.

Android :: Launching Google Maps And Navigator From Application

Aug 18, 2010

I have an android application which allows the user to open up google maps or navigator to show a certain address. This functionality was working in the past, but now I get the following error and the app crashes:
ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2165):
android.content.ActivityNotFoundException:

The two intents I'm using are-

1) For Map:
String uri = "geo:0,0?q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);

2) For Navigator:
String uri = "google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);

Android :: Avoiding Application Restart - When Hardware Keyboard Opens

Nov 7, 2010

I am currently working on a multi-threaded game application for the Android platform. so far so good. I just got over a bug in my application which caused it to restart on orientation change (fixed by designating a specific orientation depending on the availability of a hardware keyboard or not, which is important 'cuz it is an online game with chat capabilities), and that works. BUT now i am trying to avoid the same problem when the user simply slides open the hardware keyboard. I'm not quite sure how to go about avoiding the restart of my application or the saving of the state of my application. Any solutions/suggestions?

Sprint HTC Hero :: App - Lock 2.0/Open Home

Dec 19, 2009

This afternoon, I wiped my phone and am starting from scratch. Lock 2.0 was giving me some issues and with all the installing and uninstalling of app's I've been doing in the past couple of weeks, I just decided to start with a fresh slate.

Before I back and download Lock 2.0 again, I wanted to inquire with others out there on their experience with the App. I love it, but I wasn't sure if I didn't set it up correctly or I didn't understand how the app worked because it never did replace the default lock screen after I installed and configured it. I always had to manually launch it, unlock the screen and then it would take over.

Not exactly what I had in mind for my money. Was thinking it was a full replacement for the default lock screen. Maybe I didn't read the fine print well enough.

Also, what's been the experience with Open Home on the Sprint Hero?

I'll come clean and admit I'm a Mac super-user stuck without an iPhone (I love Sprint!!). I carry my iPod touch and my Hero with me pretty much everywhere. I am LOVING my Hero though! It does exactly what I wanted it to.

I like to get in and customize to the nth degree, but not at the expense of crappy app's that mess up my stuff.
