Has anyone tried running the java Opera Mini 5 beta on a Galaxy with the GalaxHero or Galaxo roms? If so, how does it run? I'm hoping it will be quicker than the stock browser and as quick as the android native Opera 4.2.

I'm finding that the standard browser is way slower when navigating than the Opera Mini beta.Same thing over wifi and mobile. We're talking about 30 seconds in standard browser compared to about 1 second in Opera.What's that about?Is everybody else finding the same thing? It's annoying that Opera isn't quite as complete as standard browser, coz otherwise I'd just use it all the time.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm not using compcache/swap, and the problem I'm having is that the ROM seems slow. Posted on HDblog.it but got no answer so far, so I thought I'd ask here:
1. For example, after I exit some applications, it takes ~5 seconds for the home screen icons to appear.
2. Worse, Waze stutters when it speaks directions.(Waze is an awesome GPS navigation app, free, with crowdsourced, community-built maps and live traffic, much like OpenStreetMaps.) Anyway, T-Mobile G1 users report that Waze does not stutter on their devices.
Im sure that there must be a few using Opera Mini 5 beta out there.I was just looking through the settings and im wondering a bit about this "Opera Link".I signed up and well nothing happened. What exactly does "it" do and how exactly do I get "it" to do"it"?I had to re-read that to make sure "it" made sense.

I want to return to the latest official Samsung ROM (whichever that is), so that i can then do some comparison benchmarks before moving to the latest GAOSP. Can anyone help me with a couple of questions?
1) How to return to a stock ROM from Galaxo ROM?
2) Where can I obtain the latest ROM and which is it? Intended use is in UK.
3) Does anyone have any idea about when the next GAOSP (full) Beta will be?

When I go to gmail in the stock browser or Dolphin, I get an "enhanced" version of gmail. It has tabs across the top and is quicker to navigate around.Is there a way to get this enhanced version when using Opera Mini? Hopefully I am clear enough on the differences.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am very interested in getting an android phone soon but I need to use a certain browser which for some reason is the ONLY mobile browser that works with my home security cameras.I have tried them all (opera,skyfire,iris etc) the only one that works, and works well, is opera mini 3 or mini 2.4.
Any newer versions of opera mini don't work. Go figure. So far I have used it only on windows mobile 6.0

ok so i go on some sites that show what phone i'm using, some browsers show the phone, but opera mini 7 always show 'posted from opera mini 7'. could i change that at all?

I have been facing a problem from quite a while now that I cannot access Facebook or Google through any browser except Opera Mini.
It always gives me an error that could not locate remote server and/or check your network connection.I'm using wifi and Facebook and Google works just fine on my PC on same network. Even the Facebook Android app works properly and all other applications also work perfectly on the Internet. So this is not a problem with my network connection.
Only browsers do not load these pages, I have tried the stock browser, Dolphin, one browser, opera classic previously called opera mobile and other browsers too. A few months ago they were working but now not.I did not try Firefox or Opera Beta Browser because the are too heavy for my phone.
Opera Mini works, obviously because it does all loading and processing in its servers.I think that there maybe a certificate or authentication problem in my phone which is causing this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get a fully functioning data connection on my Galaxy S through my current SIM card. I can browse with Opera (which doesn't seem to care what the APN settings are) but nothing else works, (unless I get a wifi connection, which works fine). The problem may or may not disappear when I move countries soon (to Indonesia) but I'd like to understand what's going on.
I bought it in Singapore - it's got a SingTel setup (sticker on the back, boot screen, links on home) but it's supposed to be unlocked (and SingTel say they sell them unlocked too). A guy at the Samsung service center in Singapore said it was "locked" for other countries though because they don't yet have the Galaxy S - but once phone companies have the right settings for the phone it should be fine. I used it with a different Singapore phone company (StarHub) with a data plan for a couple of days that worked fine. I browsed and used the Google Maps app, no problem.
Then the problem. I came to Malaysia a week ago and bought a Maxis SIM card. At their service center they entered the APN settings (they already sell the Galaxy S), and the internet worked when I tested it on a few pages. 30 min later I tried again and got nothing, and it didn't come back. I returned to the service center, they made small changes to the settings, and it worked again... for a few minutes only. Then I discovered that I can browse in Opera - even if I use dummy APN settings (random numbers in one field and everything else blank or default).
However after I restarted the phone again, I couldn't repeat the success. I stopped unneeded apps, I uninstalled NimBuzz, I tried restarting over and over... but I get no connection other than with Opera. I've tried other internet apps (Maps, sync in GTasks, OkCupid, NimBuzz) and none work. Any clues as to what's going on?

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy is, except the support from Samsung itself, a great Android smartphone with a very good (the best?) price for value. It's with 11,9mm the second slimmest Android phone after Nexus One with 11,5mm (right?) and has unlike the HTC phones a flash light and build in storage of 8GB. On most sites the Galaxy is (one of) the cheapest Android phones, I wonder if it's because Samsung is cheaper or HTC/Motorola more expensive by itself?
I personally would compare the i7500 with the HTC Hero, although in my opinion the i7500 still has a much better price for value.
Is it even possible to define if and which Android phone is a low, middle, or high-end smartphone?
Sure, it also depends for what purposes you bought and use your phone, but I still wonder were the i7500 would be if 1=low and 10=high end Android phone, and if there even is a number 10? I also think that the D-Pad is a big plus and not a minus in comparison to the scroll ball from HTC.
