I just got a samsung galaxy last weekend and I love it . There is just 1 thing. I am going to germany (note that I'm from the Netherlands ^.^) for this week and I don't want to have a huge bill for internet use in foreign country's. So I would like to disable my Internet for just this week.
My problem is I can't figure out how.... I can't find anything in the settings menu, and I can't find an app for it.
On my mothers phone (Nokia 5800) I could set up a password. So everytime the phone wanted to use internet, it needs a PW. is there any options for the galaxy aswell?

Is there any application or means of connecting to the wifi internet by having a dynamic ip address but change the gateway and port no. to be connected to? I can access the internet through a particular gateway and port no. only. If there is someway i can do this, it will be really helpful. I stay in a hostel where we have wifi access, but i need to specify these specific address to access internet.

Ok here's my situation (as you see im still using galaxy ) so today i received MMS but all i get is download button and when i press it i get download unsuccesfull. want to say that have 3g on, VPN setup to different settings suggested on various forums for O2 simplicity. so tried on all of them still unsuccesfull. tried on both normal messaging app and handsent sms still the same. dont know what to do. still its not a problem coz normally i dont use it for mms but today i received one and can't open it.
huh spent most of the day trying to figure out how to do it and i guess the only place where i could possibly get an answer is here, from loyal galaxy sufferers so if anyone got the same problem and managed to resolve it please share this knowledge with me.

I started a firmware update (using Odin) and, when downloading the amss, samsung says "Bad block table read fail". a lot of times and the progress bar (on Odin) stay locked. And the update cant finish. So, I restart the mobile... but it always come with the "Downloading..." screen. I've tried the recovery mode [vol down] + [start call] + [end call] buttons, but it always go to "Downloading..." screen. I can't exit from the download mode, and the phone doesn't start any more. I've removed the battery, but the same... the "diskette logo" come with "Downloading..." all the times.
So, two questions:
1) About the "bad block" message, I think it's because I left "turned on" the USB debugging. so, I want to start the phone to turn it off again. This make sense?
2) How to get rid of this screen? How to stop the download mode?

After installing the galaxy drivers several times on windows 7 64 bit and after spending a lot of time searching the drivers for this OS, I decided to create a thread with the links to the drivers: for the fastboot (for flashing a new recovery img) and for the adb (for flashing firmware using odin when the phone is in download mode):
The link: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service. I suggest it will be a sticky, since last night I spent 1 hour in the stickies until I found these 2 drivers.

Can someone tell me what known bugs there are with II4?
Yes I know ooooooold firmware. Thing is I've just been given a replacement Galaxy because of the dialpad bug. I had hoped they'd (o2) replace my phone with a different handset but instead they've given me a Galaxy with I7500XXII4. They say I need to have replaced the phone more often (!!!!) before they will give me a different phone. I wish I'd returned it earlier in the year when it was plagued with missed calls, random reboots and all the other bugs we had to endure before firmware fixes.
So now my only way to persuade them to replace the phone is to show them the bugs with II4. So instead of me waiting a week or two and finding the bugs myself, can anyone remember what bugs this firmware has? I have tried searching but it's too messy. I've also tried updating using NPS as I'd obviously rather not be on 1.5 but NPS always gives me a "no file to download error". So that's my first bug, help me find more so I can complain to o2!

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy is, except the support from Samsung itself, a great Android smartphone with a very good (the best?) price for value. It's with 11,9mm the second slimmest Android phone after Nexus One with 11,5mm (right?) and has unlike the HTC phones a flash light and build in storage of 8GB. On most sites the Galaxy is (one of) the cheapest Android phones, I wonder if it's because Samsung is cheaper or HTC/Motorola more expensive by itself?
I personally would compare the i7500 with the HTC Hero, although in my opinion the i7500 still has a much better price for value.
Is it even possible to define if and which Android phone is a low, middle, or high-end smartphone?
Sure, it also depends for what purposes you bought and use your phone, but I still wonder were the i7500 would be if 1=low and 10=high end Android phone, and if there even is a number 10? I also think that the D-Pad is a big plus and not a minus in comparison to the scroll ball from HTC.

Does GAOSP Froyo support live wallpapers for i7500? If yes, can you recommend some that seem to run fine without (major) slowdown? I would suspect that the CPU is too slow to run most live wallpapers, but there might be some neat ones that are good to go?

Sorry if this thread seems inconsequential but I have been rendering myselves sleepless nights over the past couple of days ( and nights ) due to my inability to choose between the above two said android phones. I like the i5700 for its zippy 800 MHz processor and that its got the 2.1 update. I like the i7500 for its 5 MP camera and flash + a larger screen to play with I would have gone in for the i7500 but have been hearing about Samsung deciding against not updating it to version 2.1 which can off course be done taking the un-official channel. Moreover the 528 Mhz processor is certainly lagging.
But still I see people in here Going after the i7500 .... Adding to it there is more threads and discussions going around on the i7500 as compared to the i5700. Am I missing something in the i7500 or is it just that i am a stupid newbie ... I have gone through many many pages of information on this thread before posting this query.

First question...If I get an evo (or any android based phone) does it need to be activated for me to use the wife feature and download app from the android marketplace? Or do I need to have the phone activated to access the marketplace? Will I even be able to use the wifi?
Second question...I figured smartphones are smart. Can I download mp3 files from the internet to the phone itself? In more detail, I use zamzar for my music. I go to youtube, copy the url of the song/video I'm watching, zamzar converts it to mp3, sends it to my e-mail, I follow the link in my e-mail, and the song begins to download. Is this possible on the Evo? Even if the file can't be opened unless I do something on the comp first, as long as i can actually download the file.

Is there any way to download APK from the internet on an Android phone (T Mobile MyTouch)? I have installed the Apps Installer application that installs APK's from the SDCard. However I want to download the APK from the internet and then use Apps Installer to install it. Currently when I download my APK, it gets stored as a TXT file on the phone for some reason. Is there any way around this?
