Samsung I7500 :: How To Copy Notification Tone Into Sys File?
Jul 7, 2010
How do I copy notification tone into sys file? I have downloaded a notification tone that I wish to use for incoming text, in the notification tones there are a selection of tones but I would like to add this one to the list. I've tried moving the file using the move command and also tried with the copy and paste function with Astro file manager but I cannot move or paste when I navigate to the sys/media/notification folder as these options are greyed out?

Is it possible to change this? It cannot be changed through notification ringtone menu; all that succeeds in doing is changing tone for other notifications like email etc. Have tried to select other notification tones, but it is the "tada" tone that always comes up when SMS is received. Can the tone for receiving SMS be changed, and if so, how?

Because I have to send my Samsung Galaxy I7500 back to Samsung (the audio plug is broken and does not detect disconnecting the headphone) I try to get my contacts back to my Sim-card. This is so I can use my good old Nokia 6200 again. Now since there are no options in the standard software, I downloaded this app. Contacts 2 Sim. It has a function for copying contacts and this SEEMS to work (it gives me a message saying it copied 192 contacts). BUT... When I put my Sim-card over to the other phone nothing has changed. Also when I, switch my Samsung off and on again (after copying to SIM) the contacts are already gone from the Sim again. Is my SIM locked or something? It is a bit annoying so if someone could help me out it would be great.

How do I copy my contacts to my SIM card on my Samsung Galaxy i7500?
I want to copy my contacts to my SIM card so i can reset it and update it.
But the problem is, in pcs you can copy your contacts from your phone to pcs, but i first have to update it.
But when i update it all my numbers would be lost.
And the second problem is it doesnt want to update my phone.
When i try to update it, it says there has been a problem with the connection with the server.
Could i put a memory card in to my phone and copy my numbers to it?

I'm on my 2nd captivate and both of these bugs have happened on both phones.
First being the backlight remaining on unless I lock the phone manually. This will happen even with the backlight auto turn off set to 30 seconds. This has happened a handful of times, and I can make the backlight turn off if I want by using the lock key, but it will never auto turn off. This is fixed by power cycling the phone.
Second, my notification volume. I've noticed a few times that I'll have a text or something waiting on my phone for which I didn't hear the notification tone. When I go to the phones settings I find that the notification volume is down around 25% instead of the 75% or so I keep it set at. This seems to happen randomly.

Im on Galaxo 1.6.3.3 and have been facing this strange problem since a couple of days. Whenever I mount my internal 8 GB memory and try to copy files into it, the internal memory card automatically un-mounts by itself after a couple of seconds interrupting the file transfer.
This happens almost all the time.
I don't have any such issues with the external SD card.
Should reformatting the internal memory help?
Also, If I reformat the internal memory...I dont think the OS should be affected. I suppose the internal memory is just like a movable drive...with no OS files on it.

I had yesterday received the Samsung Galaxy I7500 from Optus, and have today been playing around with it.
Right now, I am attempting to transfer files to the phone from the PC via the USB cable, so that I can have custom ringtone & notification sounds.
I have mounted the device using the phone so I can access the internal memory via Windows Explorer, and have made the 2 folders (notifications + ringtones), however when I transfer the file, it STARTS to transfer then the device disconnects and I get the following error message:
Error Msg.jpg
I have noticed that the first 5 or 10 seconds of the music transfer successfully before it gets cutoff...
I have tried to use NPS to try transfer the file (using the Media Manager), which appears to transfer the file fine, but those songs I transfer across does not even appear in the "Music" Application that the phone came with.
I have also tried to transfer (via Windows Explorer) other file types eg a PDF file but they also cause the device to disconnect...
I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition - I do not know if this is causing some sort of problem with the device?

This is one thing I have yet to figure out. For some reason I just cannot get the darned thing to output to a file. I found this link Android Debug Bridge | Android Developers and it has lots of commands. I can get logcat to appear on the screen, but that's about it.
Here is what I am doing:
Start, Run, "C:Derek's phone firmwareandroid-sdk-windows
oolsadb.exe" logcat and poof log appears on the screen.
If I use "logcat -f" it just appears on the screen and disappears is less than a second. Also, no file is to be found (the default file is supposed to be stdout).

Can someone tell me what known bugs there are with II4?
Yes I know ooooooold firmware. Thing is I've just been given a replacement Galaxy because of the dialpad bug. I had hoped they'd (o2) replace my phone with a different handset but instead they've given me a Galaxy with I7500XXII4. They say I need to have replaced the phone more often (!!!!) before they will give me a different phone. I wish I'd returned it earlier in the year when it was plagued with missed calls, random reboots and all the other bugs we had to endure before firmware fixes.
So now my only way to persuade them to replace the phone is to show them the bugs with II4. So instead of me waiting a week or two and finding the bugs myself, can anyone remember what bugs this firmware has? I have tried searching but it's too messy. I've also tried updating using NPS as I'd obviously rather not be on 1.5 but NPS always gives me a "no file to download error". So that's my first bug, help me find more so I can complain to o2!

Just wondering if doing a factory reset, or any other kind of reset, restores the original CSC. I removed it when I used Odin to update the phone a few months ago. I know I can use Odin again if I want to restore the CSC, I'm just not sure which CSC I need- does it have to match the firmware version, or is the CSC for a given carrier the same regardless of the firmware?

We are suddenly unable to install our app on G1 developer phones with 1.6. Works perfectly on emulator. When installing the app we get:
Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE Please check logcat output for more details. Launch canceled!
And logcat:
PackageManage: Couldn't copy package file to temp file.
What does this mean? We checked that there is actually room enough on the phone.. We tried reverting the code to a revision that worked previously, but are getting the same error.

I am looking for a way to map either the power button, the camera button, or a volume buttons to turn the notification tone off. I have the phone in a holster and there are times such as driving or other times when getting the phone out to turn off the notifier is not easy or practical.I do want to know that one came in but letting the tone run its course is annoying both to me and anyone around. Is there an app for this or a setting I missed? I have a Droid X by the way.

I set a tone when I first got the phone (created the media/notifications folder, put my mp3 in, selected it in the menu.) Well I added some more yesterday, went in a changed it to one of those, but it still played my old tone. So I tried deleting the old tone and leaving just the one I wanted in there - now it doesn't play anything!

I updated the Rom supplied by HTC for Hero's on the orange network. Since I've done the upgrade I can't change the default notification tone. My custom tones show up in the list, I can check to chose the tone but when I receive a text message I still get the 'Ascend' tone, can't even change it to any of the other standard tones that came already on the phone.

Getting into android ownership after years of Nokia, and loving it. Is it possible though, that the LED or track ball can be made to blink so I know the phone's still on and not died? Blinks away fine when battery is low. Also, is it possible to have an audible alert to critical battery?

I installed the Zedge app and downloaded a ringtone and notification tone I want to use. I set them as the tones in my options, but it's like it doesn't save or something. The tones just keep going back to the ones I had them set to originally that were already on the phone.
