Is there a way to turn off the mobile part of the phone when not using the internet in any form? My wife has a droid eris and you can just turn of mobile aspect (it turns off the 3g) just like you would turn off and on wifi, gps, etc... It saves the battery life big time when you know there's no need to use the web.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe wifi on my phone Samsung Galaxy Chat will not turn on all of a sudden. Same is the issue with Bluetooth.
The wifi button in the drop down screen is kind of greyed out and when settings is opened the [off-on] is greyed out. In wifi settings it just says "turning on...".
All firmware up to date. Phone isnt damaged or dropped. I have restarted the phone many times and also performed factory reset twice and cleared the cache too.
I recently started using a galaxy s 4g. Well, it worked perfectly until i plugged it into the charger. Every time i connect my charger the phone shuts off but when i disconnect the charger it turns back on and works perfectly fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Galaxy S4 running android 4.3. Recently it's been randomly shutting off. I ride a motorcycle and most of the time when I get home the phone is off. If I try to turn it on it just goes into a reboot loop and the only way to stop it is to plug it into the charger. At first I thought maybe that the power button gets pressed somehow in my bike jacket pocket and hard shuts it down. But it keeps doing it.
Also I was using it whilst sitting in my house and it just randomly shut off. I'm not too sure whether it does it at a certain percentage or not or whether it only does it when a lot of memory is being used, which I doubt as I'm obviously not using it when it's in my pocket.
Another thing, and I don't know whether it's related or not, but when it shut off the other day whilst I was using it I thought If I took the battery out and back in would it let me boot it up without the need for a charger. But no it didn't work. I plugged it in and then when it came on the language had changed to Slovakian.
Looking on other posts about this some say it's a bad battery. I have AVG anitvirus so I doubt it's a virus although maybe one that isn't yet recognized by AVG? I would like to try and sort out the issue without factory resetting my phone. I have loads of apps and would take ages to back it all up and also the phone is rooted and that's difficult to do as well as install all my root only apps.
My screen will go blank, like it went to sleep but what actually happened was it just simply shut off! I installed two logcat applications, but I don't know jack about reading logs I want to know what causes these shutdowns The latest ones happened between 6:32-6:33AM and 6:54-6:55AM (it's 7:26AM now, my time).

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have samsung galaxy s3 mini.and like today my phone fell in water... first everything was ok, but then when i locked it, it will automaticly turn on... i tried everything, like buy a new battery, factory reseted it, deleted all the apps but it didnt work.... so the problem is: i always have screen timeout on 15 seconds... and when i LOCK my phone, it actually turns it back on on the lock screen. like before it would do that if i pressed any button on phone, but now it does it automatic. and its very annoying because i cant even sleep without my phone blinking all the time(i have my phone near the bed because of the alarm clock)..

This morning, the screen completely got filled with blue/white/messed up color, and then went completely black. Touchscreen still worked though because I was able to maneuver around the phone right after it was dropped. Screen was not cracked. does the screen has to be replaced as well or i can replace it with smaller parts?

Now... I use Locale for the following:
- Turning the ringer down when I get to work (obviouse one)
- Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi on when I plug it in the phone (think car dock)
- Turn on Wifi when I get near my known hot spots.
- Turn off GPS/Bluetooth/wifi off and turn down brightness when my battery is low.
And the last one is a good one for me...
- I have a GV number. When I call my phone from that number, it turns the ringer volume all the way up and it turns on wifi and GPS. This is my "lost phone aid". It turns on the locating features so I can see where the phone is using iGoogle and Latitude, and I can hear the phone if it is "in the cushions" on vibrate.

When I trun my phone on, the scene changes from the scene I had chosen (the waving grass) to "current (unsaved)".If I change it to the one I prefer (saved with my name) I am asked to "save or cancel" the incorrect one.I click cancel, and all is well.But why does it change and how do I keep the scene selected that I want?I just want it to stick on the scene that I have chosen.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to see if i have a defective unit in that the display is taking up more battery than standby when the phone is not in use and so far my phone has turned off by itself 3 times in the past 13 hours. I had it 100% charged last night before going to bed so i unplugged it from the wall, put it on the nightstand in airplane mode, and i woke up an hour late this morning because my alarm didn't go off because my captivate turned off at some point in the night. I fired it up and it had 94% battery. So i immediately put it into standby and put it in my pocket and went to work. When i got to work i pressed the standby button and nothing happened, so i held it in and voila, the phone is turning on. So on my way to work it randomly shut down again. So now it has 90% battery so i put it on standby again and let it sit for 3 hours. I just checked on it and it had shut off again. It's now at 88% and shows Display=54%, Cell Standby=15%. I think this thing is completely whacked. Between this and the GPS not working i think i'm done. I'm definitely going to take this one back, but i'm concerned about getting a new one that's even more screwed up as it seems there are such few good working copies of this phone out there. Is there some setting that turns your phone off after a certain amount of standby time that i might have somehow mistakenly turned on? I feel like that would be a ridiculous setting to have, but it seems like there are a lot of options on this phone so ya never know.

I use ATK to kill it, lock it, unlock it, and it's still checking for GPS while it's locked. No matter how many times I go to settings (or use the pull-down curtain), and switch off the wifi, within a minute or so, the wifi comes on again. It also turns itself off again periodically when this happens. I don't have any after market power manager installed. I suspect this may be down to an app, but have no idea where to start looking for the solution.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSomething new - under Wifi Settings / Advanced - I have Wi-Fi set to sleep when display is off. This doesn't seem to be the case. My WiFi is Always on. I would imagine that the icon would disappear like it does when WiFi is turned off, but when the phone is asleep and then wakes up, the WiFi connection is still there. Anything I can try to fix this? I have tried changing the WiFi sleep policy to the other 2, then changing it back to display power - didn't work. I did have to reboot the phone last night because I couldn't get WiFi to turn off, but I don't have a problem today with turning it on or off, just won't go to "sleep"
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night my wife was trying to update her cached stations on slacker radio and although connected to wifi slacker gave a notification that the data would be downloaded over 3g and an unlimited plan was recomended. The strange thing is I had full strength connection to wifi but the 3g icon was still there and and the red and green arrows were showing data transfer over 3g. When connected to wifi on my captivate the 3g icon disappears. A simple power down fixed the problem and wifi was present and no 3g icon in the status bar.
