Samsung Galaxy S : Can SGS Have Better Youtube Video Resolution Than EVO
Aug 27, 2010After using both the EVO and SGS for weeks, I find the SGS inferior to the EVO in very few ways. The most major one that it being a 3G phone, the Internet speed is of course slower than the EVO's (I have 4G in my area, Los Angeles). I enjoy watch Youtube and SprintTV on the EVO as both the resolution and streaming experience very good, however after watch the low res Youtube on the SGS a few times, I can't make myself watch it under 3G anymore (wifi is better but still not as good as EVO on 4G). But since we can consistently get over 1 meg on 3G, why can't the SGS do better in Youtube video playback? Is there any program that can trick the phone in thinking it is on wifi and playback in higher resolution?

Aug 12, 2010Just got the phone and loving it so far but im having major issue's with You Tube, Most video's take about 5 mins to load in low quality and in high quality it can take upto 30 mins or more which of course by that time the phone locks and the video has to restart again.
Any suggestions as to why it takes so long? Also is there a setting for video's to automatically start in high quality? And for the phone not to lock?

Jul 13, 2010Has anyone else noticed that on the Galaxy S, the Wifi will stop to respond after a few disconnects? I usually have wifi off to save battery, but now and then some application will turn it on and after I stop it (either using the message bar or settings) the wifi stops working. Under settings it will be greyed out and say something like "Shutting down..." but you cannot click it again, turn it on or anything else. A reboot works but thats kind of annoying.

What I think happened is that I used the new Google maps today- and the phone got really hot. Suspect I've cooked it.
Battery pull as well as power off -no joy. Is a factory reset worth trying?

I tested it and it works - i can run opengl games fluently on my samsung galaxy now.
For those of you who can't read German: you can get opengl hardware acceleration working on the samsung galaxy on II5 and probably any other version by copying the libhgl.so from a htc G1 device.
Unfortunately the only way to legally do this is probably by owning a HTC device, but there are some HTC system/recovery images available for download, from the HTC website. Be sure to download the OTA image as it contains the files directly and you can just copy the libhgl.so file directly.
Root your phone, remount the /system filesystem as read/write, then copy the HTC libhgl.so to /system/lib/libhgl.so . Reboot phone.
Now you'll have openGL hardware acceleration!

Sep 15, 2010had the phone for 2 weeks now no problems, last night my battery was drained fully so i charged it fully. now swipe isnt working. when i press the swipe button (the option button at the bottom left) it freezes and force closes. tried rebooting and no luck. i can see the blue line when i swipe but no letters pop up

I know flashes on camera phones aren't all that great, but they do help in many situations. I read in a couple places that this phone has a night mode negating the need for the flash. So far I have not been able to find any sample photos taken in low light conditions, say a portrait of friends in a dark restaurant, or at a party. I grabbed a theme from this site (which has a GREAT tutorial by the way), but whenever i try to install one, my phone will not boot following the update. I get a similar thing to if you have not restored GAPPS where the screen will just sit on the boot screen but go no further. I tried restoring GAPPS to see if that was somehow the issue, but not luck.

May 6, 2013 I have a Samsung Galaxy S running CyanogenMod 9.
I want to test if my 3g is actually working or not. I used to use the 3G internet on the phone until I changed plan without mobile internet and now I've changed back. The problem is there is no 3G connection now.
I've been onto my network's forums and followed their instructions for setting up APN's etc. and the settings are perfect (even though I never changed them since the last time it worked) So my question is that is there some way to test if your 3G hardware is actually functioning?

Sep 26, 2013im having a problem with my samsung galaxy s advance. Few weeks ago i spilled some pepsi over my phone. I dried it and everything was working fine. 3 days ago, my speaker stopped working. I reflashed my firmware and it worked for about 5 seconds and then it made cracking sound and would not work. I noticed that, if i suck air from the speaker with my mouth(sometimes i can just put my mouth over it) it would work for 5-30 seconds. But as soon as i remove my mouth it stops working.

I'm frustrated because I can't figure out why NONE of the apps, SMS 7, Popup Notifier, or SMS Popup, will work. And when I say doesn't work I mean I can open the app and change the settings, but nothing ever happens when I get a text - no popup, no notification, no sound, no LED light.
