Has anyone here tried using an external bluetooth GPS receiver with the SGS?I'd love a fix for the GPS issues to come along, but the phone is otherwise so brilliant that I'd be up for getting an external unit for using it when driving (or even for using with My Tracks etc.) if the thing never gets sorted.Any reason why one wouldn't work?

I know an SD card gives you extra memory for media files, but since the phone comes with 16GB is it really necessary? The basic iPhone 4 comes with 16GB and I don't think most users are clamoring for more.
Does it help the SGS speed if you leave most of the internal memory free (only using it for apps) and use the external card for all your files?
Or does it just provide an opportunity to go crazy with storing files, like an entire season of a TV show for instance?
All that being said... yes I did spring for an 8GB SD card but is it money well spent... who knows.
I'm having one repeating problem with my new Galaxy S, the phone's External SD keeps corrupting for some reason. I used the same MicroSD card in my previous phone for a year with no issues, but since I installed it in my Galaxy it randomly stops working (can't access files on it), and when I open My Files all the file names are all messed up. When I unmount and remount the card, everything works fine again. All the files are available, and the file names are back to normal.
I uninstalled a bunch of programs I suspected might be messing with the card, and tried formatting it again. And I've been really careful to always use the "Safely remove hardware" function, but it seems the card corrupts even when I'm not doing anything specific with the phone.
I guess the next step is to try another card, but other than that, any ideas?
Edit. though it seems the card is working, I can't make new folders of modify the files on it in My Files... the files are accessible though. When I connect it to my PC, I can modify the cards content normally.
I have been having this problem since i updated to froyo JP2 package my external micro SD card when mounted to computer and i try to copy over the files it says it is write protected but there is no key to slide, as everybody knows micro sd cards donot have that feature by design. this is the best part when the same card no changes i put in to a cardreader hooked up to my laptop works perfectly fine. it was working fine before i flashed the JP2 firmware. what am i doing wrong i even formated the card in the phone itself but still no luck. My hunch is this when i flashed with new firmware i never took out the sd card and the sim card is that any reason, i know i can just flash it again but i already arranged everything nice on my galaxy so was wondering if it is then i will go ahead.

As soon as USB is connected, a message appears in bottom right corner:"USB connector connected", then disappears. I try to locate the sub-folder in the Storage Folder, but it's not there. I don't know where it is. I go to Setting and reset it to factory default, then it works. But when I unplug USB stick and plug it in again, it doesn't work. How come it doesn't read USB stick?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPrior to installing the external card - the folders app showed /sd. Which I assumed was the internal one. Then I insert the external one, reboot the phone, and tehre is no additional directory in the folder view. Why is this? Secondly, its a 16GB card. Its reported as 14.58GB. The format option is greyed out. Is it automatically mounted at power on? Ideally I want to know where I install things to know that they are on the external card.

I can transfer other file types to the card and they stay there. Is this deliberate by Samsung or Android generally? Can anyone else retain PLS files in their SD card?

I would like to play back videos I have stored on my SD card; however none of the videoplayers I've tried will do it - they all say the file cannot be played. The videos all play fine when stored locally, so I know there is no issue with the files themselves or the transfer process of getting them onto the SD card. Currently, if I want to watch a video, I have to use the My Files app to navigate to the file on the SD card and move it to the internal storage. This works, but its clunky and not very nice. Is this a bug feature of 4.2.2, or of my handset in general?

- use recovery to format external sd fat32+swap
- use galaxoconf to activate compcache setting it on default which is 25600 i think.
Now the thing is - how do i know if it works and did i even do it right?

Turns out Spotify is only using the internal SD card :S totally burnt out my 8gb already! I see no option in Spotify to select where to place the offline store, anyone else in the ssame 8gb boat?

View 6 Replies View RelatedGalaxy S f/w 2.1. It doesn't find either of my bluetooth devices - headset and handsfree. My old phone worked fine on both of them.
I enable Bluetooth. The icon goes nice and green. The blue squiggly thing appears in the top bar.
I activate my VisorBlade hands-free device. It beeps and the right lights come on. But no glimmer of recognition from the Galaxy. I go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Bluetooth > Scan Devices. Nothing found.
I switch on my Plantronics Voyager 520 and it beeps and the right lights come on. Phone remains nonchalently aloof. Scan for devices. Nothing doing.
But. My PC finds the phone when I do the Make Device Visible thing.
I remember one of the sticking points last year for me, was the inherent problem in Android of Bluetooth support for Bluetooth Voice Dialling for true "hands free". Not to mention Bluetooth file transfer. I understand Android may still have a problem with Bluetooth voice dialing, or is this just problems with, I think it is, "Droid"?

I've been using the Wireless AP mode which works really well, but I think the bluetooth mode will use less power.I've been able to pair the phone with my macbook, but I'm not sure what settings it needs on both sides. On the phone I'm assuming just enabling bluetooth is enough for it to be a modem, but on the macbook I need to fill out:username, password, apn and cid. I'm not sure where to find this info.Please god tell me I don't have to call Bell to get it.

I can make and receive calls faultlessly , but definately have to be able to access my contacts hands free. every time i try to re-pair it it offers an option to share contacts, but does not work once paired .Can anyone more technically savvy than myself offer any ideas / help , unless i can get this to work the phone will have to go back

Bluetooth seems to work ok because I can pair with the Parrot CK3100, but I have a ELM327 bluetooth diagnostics interface than I can not find when I search bluetooth devices with this smarthphone.The ELM327 is working fine with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and android 3.1, as with 2 pc's I tried with windows XP.
I'm trying to pulse my bluetooth dongle, to see if it is range. Every second my Android sends a char to the dongle, which then responds with a char. If there is no response, or the char is wrong, then it should conclude that there is no connection. I'm able to send from Android to dongle (attached to MCU), and the dongle is able to respond. All I need is a simple way to read each char (when received) to compare it. I'm trying to do it in a seperate thread to make it run in its own loop.

Connecting it to my car audio via bluetooth no problems but it drops the 3G/H network connection as soon as it connects to the car. Disconnect the Bluetooth and I get the data connection back. Is this deliberate or a bug? It means I can't receive emails etc whilst in my car unless I turn off Bluetooth.

For receiving and making calls it worked fine with the audio coming out through the car's speakers. But if I play music or my navigation the audio is coming out through the phones speaker (the one on the back) rather than through the cars speakers. I don't know what setting I've got wrong.
