Samsung Galaxy S :: Can I Install Vanilla Android On Phone?
Jun 11, 2010I think this phone is the best one on the market regarding hardware, but I am a bit concerned about its software.
I have a N1 and if I can put Froyo (when Froyo gets released) without all that crap Samsung adds up to it I'd buy one.
Even better if I could have Cyanogen 6 (which will probably be based on Froyo).
So, any news about rooting this phone?

Sep 29, 2010I tried to install a new ROM and I have killed my phone. This is what happened. I downloaded Voodoo (something) rebooted in recovery mode, and selected the file installed it and rebooted the phone. my phone turned on showing on the screen only Samsung and above it Vibrant. a voice on the phone told me "this will take 15 minutes." and that was it. the phone is now stuck on that opening screen and I can not get to download or recovery mode. It does charge if turned off and plugged in.

Sep 27, 2010I recently got myself a Motorola Droid X and my wife the Samsung Galaxy S. I can install apps on the Motorola until my heart is content but they fail on the Galaxy. It goes through the motions of downloading and then throws an error that the dowload failed. It does not give a reason for the failure. Is this phone modified by Verizon not to allow apps or did I get a bad phone?

Jul 13, 2010Well one of those things are a lie. The wizard might have started and I exited it by accident, as I turned on and off the phone after first start. I have done some form of reset by dialing *2767*3855# but I have not been able to do the factory reset by pressing the power button while holding the volume down button. Sep 20, 20101) I am using Eclipse IDE and Android SDK 2.1 for my application. My application reads some data files from the File System, so using DDMS i push all the files in "/data/data/com.mypackage/" folder and run my application on emulator. I am able to see my desired output properly on the emulator.
2) Now i have Android device and i don't know how to push the files in the Internal memory of the phone. I have installed driver CD. But it only shows me the SD card directory.
3) Actually what i want is that the moment my application is installed and run it should read the data files from the file system. So there should be no added efforts to push the files in the file system.
4)Means can i pack my data files with my .apk file and when the apk is getting installed can the data files be placed directly in the internal memory(file system) i.e. "/data/data/com.mypackage/" folder. Is this possible ?

Apr 16, 2013Couldn't find any particular section for Galaxy Grand so posted the Question here. I've been following all the steps given in the tutorials on XDA and youtube and many other sites to install CWM in Galaxy Grand, but to my misfortune, whenever I complete the process and try to open CWM using VOLUME UP+POWER+MENU button, the ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY <3e> menu opens and then I could do nothing.
I've tried installing CWM 9 times and also tried removing the batteries.

Oct 24, 2010I tried getting Kies to install the Froyo update on my Galaxy S (i live in the UK) using the registry hack that has been widely published. It didn't work and I ended up witha slightly newer version of 2.1 than I already had. Phone seemed to work fine, until I put my SIM card back in. It immediately restarted itself as soon as I tried to use 3G.
I went through all the settings, everything seemed to be the same as it was before the flash, but still it restarted everytime I connected to the 3G network.
Sooo, I decided to try and restore it to the previous firmware version again by changing the KIES regisrty values. Everything seemed to go well, phone downloaded the correct version, installed it fine etc and then KIES notified me that the firmware upgrade was succesful and the phone will now reboot.
Only it didnt.
It turned off and hasn't turned back on since
It doesn't get recognised when plugged into USB, it doesn't even show a charging logo when plugged into the mains. It does get VERY warm when I leave the battery in for 10 minutes or so though.
I've tried all the three button combos posted around, I've taken the battery out and in and out and in etc etc... nothing. It's a shiny 9mm thick brick now
