has a blackberry and when he connects to my wireless internet at my house he gets better/full service for calling and texting! Now when I connect my new epic to the wireless all that is better is the internet speed.. Is there a way to connect to wireless and get better signal? Does the epic even do this?

Tried running wireless tether 1.6 that comes with Fresh 2.3.3. No luck.Uninstalled Wireless Tether and reinstalled it from the developer's site. My laptop connects to the phone's WiFi network, but cannot access the internet. I've tried turning the phone's mobile network off/on while tether was running and also prior to turning on tether.

However, the WIFI will connect, obtain an IP address but doesn't work. Pages wont load, marketplace wont connect etc.
Home network is WPA2 TKIP and AES
Work network is wide open
I tried kicking it into airplane mode and then turning airplane mode off, doesn't seem to matter.

View 2 Replies View RelatedGot the Samsung Desk Dock for easy re-charging and using phone on nightstand. If I use the Samsung Desk Home app from the market, that app automatically detects that the phone is in the dock and runs the app. However, no other app is able to detect that the phone is docked, even with the Desk/Home app uninstalled (i.e. not the default). My understanding is that the phone should send a signal to Android if the device is being docked. Then Android sends a broadcast to all apps that the device has been docked. I have tested with two different apps which are designed to run upon the phone being docked and neither detects the phone being docked. Without the Samsung dock app loaded, there is no change when the phone is docked. It seems like only the Samsung app is capable of detecting docking. Am I missing something? How can I get the Epic to send out the "normal" signal to other apps upon being docked?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to have an HTC Touch Pro 2, which had excellent reception inside my office. I purchased (or dare I say... upgraded to) the Epic 4G about 2 weeks ago and this phone has NO signal inside my office. Occassionally I'll get the roaming symbol, but for the most part I have no bars at all.
How could 2 phones have such different reception? The cell towers have not moved!
I've read the 4G network was launched in Orlando yesterday. I'm in Orlando and haven't been able to get a 4G signal yet. I would be happy with a consistent 3G signal. Or even 2G if that exists. Just give me a connection!
ALSO my BatteryMinder tells me when the battery is fully charged so I can unplug the charger. Last night I got the fully-charged alert in the middle of the night, so I unplugged the phone. Woke up this morning to 66% battery remaining. I know there are tons of posts about ending tasks, lowering screen brightness, etc. - all which I have done - but is there a stronger battery I can purchase? I'm not making it even 1/2 a day without charging. What an inconvenience!
I've heard that the sprint wireless tether on the Epic is really slow for some reason. I get 4G at home, with speeds of about 7Mbps up and 1Mbps up. Will I get the same speed with my laptop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my epic last week and had it rooted within hours. I have to say, I do love this phone. But I have noticed a slight inconvenience. I have installed the wireless tether app, and it works like a charm. No problem connecting other gadgets to it. But once I'm done tethering, and switch back to using wifi, the phone doesn't seem to want to connect to my home's wifi. I've tried reseting the phone, manually killing the tether app, and force closing the app under the applications tab in settings. But still no connection. Eventually, after 30mins or so, th phone will be able to connect once again. Has anyone else had this issue? It just seems somewhat of an unexpected problem, and a minor inconvenience. Any information on this or a possible fix would be greatly appreciated.

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I connect my phone to my computers (Win 7 or 2 XP machines) it always connects as A/C and not as USB. I downloaded the Samsung USB drivers and this worked on the Win 7 machine for a while but then started connected as A/C again. Un-installed and installed the drivers again but they do now work now. The Samsung drivers did not work on either of the XP machines. So, as of now I think it is the phone? I do have the Power Manager app installed and the phone still connects as A/C with it running or not.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got an i7500 from France this morning. I like the phone but I didn't mean to bid so much on eBay... oh well, I've got it now!
Anyway, I am not able to use my wifi connection.
Major points as follows:
- I can turn wifi on, connect to my wireless network after being asked for the password (I've got WPA2 security set up on my router),
- I can open my web browser and type in the URL for my router web interface. This works, I can browse that web page.
- I can not connect to the internet, no URL's outside my wireless network work
- I don't have this trouble with any other devices on my network - my Eee PC and friends machines get to the internet without a problem.
- The i7500 I have is still locked to Bouygues telecom in France, and I don't have a SIM card in the mobile.
- Router is a Linksys WRT100
Do I need an active sim card to use wifi? (EDIT- answer = no)
Is there any way I can check what my gateway address is in Android? (EDIT - answer = can't check it, but can set a gateway when setting a static IP in Wifi setup.)
Can I use the Captivate as a wireless modem without the tethering charge?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy school has an open wifi network. When you first use a device on the network, it presents an authentication page so that you can get full access. I authenticated, and my Vibrant connects fine and is assigned an IP. I checked with the network admin, and my MAC address is registered correctly in their system.
But I can't get any data. Sometimes if I disconnect and reconnect I can load one or two pages, but then data stops.
Other Android users (Nexus One, Droid X) don't seem to have this problem. I'm trying to get the network pro to come and help me out with this, but it seems to be a problem with my phone. Yet my wifi connection at home works fine.

This is quite odd. My mobile data (4G LTE) symbol in the header area used to dim (like when you disable mobile) when my Wifi kicked in and it does not anymore.
So it always appears that both 4G and Wifi are active at the same time. Only after watching which up/down arrows are flickering do I know which is working.
And on some occasions, the arrows on both flicker. I am not 100% sure, but I think this started after I turned on the Ultra Power Savings mode.
I can get a few minutes of 4G signal at my home per day, but when it drops out and 3G takes over, the signal will flatline and boot me offline. My 3G speeds are usually around 56-150Kbps or less, and my 4G speeds are around 2.5 Mbps What would cause this ? According to WiMax location sites online, my nearest 4G tower is .52 mile away. I would think that if I actually get 4G signal, then 3G would be constant. Turning off 4G doesn't help either. Is there some setting that I could have turned off that would cause this ? Running stock EVO on 2.2 all the latest updates
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a samsung galaxy S i9000, and the mobile access point is activated, I can successfully connect to it using my laptop but when I try to connect using my other mobile (ex: Nokia) to the Galaxy's mobile access point on the target device it says the wireless connection is lost and on the Galaxy the mobile access point is deactivated automatically, is this a limitation that the other device cannot be a WiFi mobile (Which I don't think)? OR is this a bug in Galaxy's mobile access point.

I don't understand what is going on or what m doing wrong. Have tried to have my PC, blackberry,ps3 and psp try to find the hotspot but none of them could, not with manual entry of the SSID either. Is there anything m supposed to be changing in other settings of the phone?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI didn't worry about it till today. but i was useing my phone while it was charging. but it got pretty hot today. enough for me to go download a app to see the temp of the battery. it said like 108? and right before i took at battery 118? idk if its right but it was pretty hot. and i am sure its not good if its getting that hot. i was listening music through blue-tooth, on the internet with wifi and thats it really. i put it in the fridge for 5 mins hope that wont hurt it but i need help and what should i do to stop this? please let me know. im using the charger that came with it. it was got warm when i charge before but i dont think this much.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been through three different car mounts so far, they of the "universal" variety... one with rubber side clamps, one padded, both with feet underneath... none of them were to my liking... didn't hold my Epic well enough, either fell out (thankfully while I was monitoring it) or felt like it could if I hit too big a bump. My question is if anyone has found a really good car mount yet, specifically for the Epic preferably? I prefer a windshield mount, but I'm willing to consider other options if it's sturdy and I can position it decently in my car.
