I have no SD card yet (its on order now) but I have 20 tones already that I downloaded from Zedge - can I use them now for sms and ringtones without the card then just add them to the physical card once it arrives? I have tried but with no success. I am able to play them in the player just not assign them as. My only guess is it is because I have no SD card yet. I searched the forum but found no topic quite like this.

how to apply to lag fix by partitioning my sd card. I followed the guide to the t using Paragon Hard Disk Manager. When I deleted my external SD card partition, it wouldn't let me re-partition it. Now my computer won't even recognize my phone. When I go into settings->SD card and phone storage, both the internal and external SD card show "Unavailable" under the space heading. The unmount and format options are greyed out as well. What do I need to do to get my phone back the way it was? I would just like my phone back the way it was and would like to get this lag fix working. Here are the video tutorials I followed and the original site I found. I use MyBackup Pro and it can store its backups on an external SD card. I've searched but haven't been able to discover if Titanium has this same capability. If a phone needs to be replaced, what good is it to have the backup internally? I know I can copy the TitaniumBackup folder to my external SD card along with its files, but can it be done automagically as a program option during the backup?

I have read that you can put a maximum of 16GB SD card some places and I have also seen you can put a 32GM SD card in the phone, so which one is it?

You might have seen this around the forums or other places: 32GB MicroSD. Its the 32GB MicroSD that Verizon is selling for $99 with FREE overnight shipping for their phones. You can buy it without having anything with Verizon, though.
I now have mine installed in my Captivate and the thing is great. I have 29GB of Music/Videos/Pictures loaded up on it and playing back ANYTHING on my phone is fast and doesn't stutter. I know I had some questions about this so I just wanted to post that yes, you CAN enjoy 48GB of space on a Captivate without worrying about Class size speed issues, worrying about the card being fake, etc. Well worth the 100 bucks. The money you can save from Wirefly/Amazon/Walmart etc can easily pay for this.

Am I missing something here? I had my contacts connected to my gmail, then decided to see if I could put them on the sim and still use a picture for them (protip, you can't :P) then I decided to go back to [g] contacts and thus would need to just delete the ones on the sim else I'd have multiple ones.
So off I trot, hold down for the context menu, hit delete and then BAM "Failed" er...what? I'm not allowed to delete my own contacts if they're on the sim card?! What, do I have to mount it to the pc and go looking for them or something? That's ridiculous if so, I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious...

Bought Captivate- AT&T copied my SIM card to a new one and contacts are wrong. How do I delete them from my SIM card several or all at once? (I know how from my Blackjack II just not from the Captivate). The contacts in the phonebook are wrong to. How do I delete all contacts from the internal phonebook? Factory Data Reset? (I read this brings it to the state where it was turned on for the first time is this true?)

I'd like to start collecting MicroSD card benchmarks. If you have bought a MicroSD card for use in your Captivate, please help out.
To test:
Install the following:
SD Card Speed Tester - Android app on AppBrain
Run it several times to make sure you don't get a fluke low number (like from momentary activity). If your phone is idle, you should get consistent results.
Then, please post to this thread with the following:
Card brand/model
Capacity
"Class" rating
Write speed (MB/s)
Read speed (MB/s)
Although it's not made obvious, the author has updated this app so that on Galaxy S phones it appends sd/ to the test path in order to test the external card (if present).

I need to be able to get Internet in a remote area. I barely get a signal now on the captivate, if I stand on my head and rub my tummy at the same time.
Since I don't think there's a way to add an external higher gain antenna to the Captivate, I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck taking the SIM card out of the captivate and using it in a 3G USB device with any sort of an external antenna?

An AT&T customer support person told me today that my GPS (even with their AT&T Navigator) will not work with my current SIM card. I have an orange 64K SIM card (63513G) and connect to 3G and HSPDA.
Do I really need a new one or they just trying to force me to get a new data plan.
I have an ancient plan called Media Max (pre smart phone plan) with unlimited data and do not want to change.

I just got my Captivate this past weekend and love it so far. I came over from the HTC Aria so I am a little Android savvy. Question is this. I put a 2GB SD card in my Captivate and want to set one of the songs on it as a ringtone. I would also like for the external SD to be the default location for pictures when I take them. Thirdly, I want to access the external SD card when I connect my phone to the PC via the USB cable, but for the life of me, these 3 issues I cant seem to resolve and they were cake on the HTC.

When I boot up my phone, I'm getting this message: "Damaged Internal SD Card." Not a micro SD card. It's saying my internal SD card is damaged. Am I screwed? Do I need to return this thing? Is there a way to format the internal SD card on this thing? I found the "Format Card" option in settings. It's working fine, although the fact that this came up in the first place is very troublesome. Some further information: I did the GPS thing where you dial *#*# and some number, then rebooted my phone. My internal card was fine until I rebooted. That was the first time I got that message of a damaged internal sd card.

When I look at the settings and "SD card and phone storage" option I see the different types of storage. Based on what I see, please verify the following assumptions are correct. The external SD card is obviously the one I added. I assume it can be used to store media files (via USB, direct write on a PC, etc.). I read until Froyo we won't be able to install apps on this card.
The internal SD card is what is built into the phone for apps and other things those apps write to the phone.
Looks like Google Listen writes to this area (can't make it write to the external SD and not sure why). It appears that the only things writing to there are my camera and of course any music, pics, or videos I load on there directly. Nothing else seems to make use of it. The internal phone storage is for things like the OS and is pretty much off limits. When I go into the "My Files" app on the phone it dumps me into the home directory which happens to be /sdcard. I assume this is the internal SD card? Under that directory it also has "/sd" which appears to be my external SD card. Why would they make it look like "/sd" is a subdirectory of "/sdcard" when it's not?

I'm quite new to Android and the Captivate (but not new to operating systems). I ran into an issue that I can't yet figure out, but I wonder if other people have also encountered. With some USB chargers (notably Blackberry chargers), I've noticed that the USB data connection prompt comes up. Regardless of the setting I choose (including canceling the dialog), the internal SD card is unmounted. If I disconnect the USB cable, the internal SD card is STILL unmounted and I don't get an option in the UI to mount it again. I end up having to reboot the phone. Attached is a screen shot of the SD card status screen when this issue occurs. So, what would be a good way to troubleshoot this? Get dmesg output, perhaps?

Doubletwist on my mac synced my itunes music library to the internal storage, not my new 32GB micro sd card. Try as I might I can't seem to find any setting to select this. Both internal and 32GB were mounted in Finder. Should I have unmounted the internal storage? Or is something else appropriate? What about copying the Music folder from the internal to the 32GB?

I have the phone for about 2 weeks now, with 3-4 hours daily use. In the middle of a call this morning, it went silent and when turned on again, it displayed "SIM card removed. Reboot phone". I took the card out and put back in 3 times, but it still happens. Wi-Fi is working, phone is still running apps. I tried to press the SIM card tightly while trying to connect, but it's no good. A quick Google search does not show many people with this problem. Anyone has a quick solution before I call ATT or Samsung?
