Im going to be installing the new JH7 update tonight and am wondering if there is anything I should do. Is there a way to backup the old firmware incase I do not want JH7 for whatever reason? Downgrade it ?

I'm a new captivate user but feel I am learning new things every day. I have my captivate rooted, and have upgraded the firmware to froyo. When I try to update the ROM it has a verification error, I know this is because of the kernel being e3 and not e2. Is there a way I can downgrade my kernel, and keep Froyo?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm still on the stock FW that came with the phone. If I update to JH3, will it automatically format and reinstall (is it a full ROM) or is it just an update?
If it does format, is there a good app to backup my apps and such (would Titanium help or does that do a full restore including the OS?).
Also, does anyone know a good app to backup/restore/transfer SMS? At the AT&T store, they transfered all my texts from my BB to this phone in a couple minutes but forgot to ask what they used for it.
Anyone else have an issue with the weather channel app? Occasionally I'll notice that the temp is way off on my home city. When I tap the widget to view my home city in the app there is no weather data - just a big N/A at the top of the screen. It will not update again until I reboot the phone. My other cities are always still updating. Only my home city is fried.This happens about once a day- anything I can clear out in the phone that might help? Uninstall and reinstall the weather channel app?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf your download fully cancels in the middle, do not resume the download. When you try to resume - the phone will think you want to resume installation [it thinks the download is complete] and will update the phone with the partial firmware download. For those phones that were bricked, that is what was said happened to them - myself included. Now, why would the update not realize the firmware isn't complete and just abort the update is beyond me. Many of us ended up with paperweights from that. Had to go to AT&T to replace the phone last night.

I read that ODIN3 would restore factory settings; but, several people that used ODIN3 warned against using it unless there was no other option.

So a week later I wanted to check again, when I do it says connection failed or something similar. Now each time it does this I have to wait 24hrs befor I can retry. Tonight was the 4th try. I've attempted this from different locations both with good 3G signal.

What bothers me the most is, if the Epic has the GPS fix, why not the rest of us? Goes to prove that the GPS issue might still be being worked on and Samsung/Sprint are just trying to calm fears.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently got my Samsung Captivate and it works pretty well (even the GPS) however, when I try to update is (manually) it takes forever trying to connect to the server and in the end it never does (and thus I cannot connect for another twenty-four hours).So I said ok, i'll use Kies to update the phone, so I download Kies and try - however, the when I connect Kies says "The Device is not supported by Kies" and as such I cannot interact with my phone in this manner.

The OTA update for the Samsung Captivate (that was supposed to fix the GPS and a couple other bugs) isn't working on my [rooted] phone. I am able to download it, but it says that the process failed after my phone restarts. Luckily, it doesn't brick my phone like it has done to some other people's phones. From what I can gather, it doesn't fail because the phone is rooted but because some of the stock AT&T apps have been removed. Is this the problem? If so, is there any place I can download those stock apps (AT&T Navigator, Where, Mobile Banking, etc.) and reload them onto my phone?

So I did that and it said it found one, it downloaded it, and said the phone would reboot in 5 sec. After that, I get nothing. I had like 80% battery via the meter. Currently my icon is an exclamation point and when i clicked on it it said something along the lines of "dm not available check sim card or network". I rebooted now i click on software update and can choose resume update but when i click on that is says no firmware. Does that mean there is not an update currently available for my phone or not? Im a bit confused.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running JH7, and am having some issues. I'm just curious to anyone who has upgraded to leaked Froyo if any of these stupid problems have been fixed. I'm sorry if this is somewhere in a changelog thread, I couldn't find it!
1) Spontaneous shutdowns - Yeah... It's pretty effing annoying to wonder if my phone is gonna wake me up, or if I'll miss an important call because it decided to turn itself off.
2) Randomly changing voicemail/calendar notification tones - Just for fun, my phone decides to change the tone it will use. I'd like to be able to pick my calendar notification noises, too.
3) Emails double sending, and putting the same email address in the "to:" field 4-6 times - This one may need more explaining from me. Let me know if it does.
4) Calendar loses appointments - This one is awesome. I *may* have made the appointment in my phone so I wouldn't have to remember it on my own, but it's cool when meetings disappear. Unless it makes me look bad. And it does.
5) Exchange support sucks - Losing all my emails and the exchange account? Good stuff.
If the leaked version fixes any of these issues, I'm excited. If it fixes all of them, I'm ecstatic.
