I got two text messages from AT&T last night stating that there is an update available. Specifically, it says:
AT&T Free Message: AT&T is providing a free update for your phone. When asked to install the update, please select OK.
Anyone else running Cognition getting these messages? I'm running 2.3 beta (something I forget). Is this just the reminder for the update they sent down a month or so ago?

I'm trying to do my first ROM install and am following these instructions which no one seems to be complaining about: FAQ - Cognition Wiki
Seemed pretty straightforward, but isn't working because I have no update.zip created by ROM Manager. When I did the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" step no update.zip file was created in the internal SD root. Buried in the clockwork mod folder is recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-captivate.zip, do I move this and rename it?
I noticed I was getting barely any reception after flashing cognition 2.2 so I used Odin to change back to stock. I still get barely any reception no matter where I go, and I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help would be much appreciated.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI own a Samsung Galaxy S SGH-i896 and I decided to try and put on Cognition for a test, but before that, I did a android backup using ROM Manager. Now I thought this would save me in any situation...
So I flashed it over to Cognition, and it refused to connect to Rogers (as I expected) however, when I went to restore back, I would still get the AT&T start up, and the video was replaced by text that said "Android" in a weird font. I managed to flash it back to a stock AT&T ROM which worked well, but still wouldn't connect to the Rogers network.
I had tried to get into the ClockworkMod Restore Screen which I did finally get. I wiped all user data and cache, and restored from my backup...
Only to find my AT&T boot screen still there instead of the i896 screen and Rogers screen which would usually show. What can I do about this issue? Is there some kind of firmware or ROM from Rogers I need? I have a Rogers Stock firmware but that didn't seem to work either
Is there a way to set a signature for text messages? searched google and checked out the suggestions on this topic but could not find what I was looking for.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an issue on my new Captivate where the text messages don't appear in order. It seems it only sorts them by a minute time stamp versus seconds. It's not an issue if they are more than a minute apart, but if I get a text say at 4:30:01 and send a reply at 4:30:15 and get a reply back at 4:30:45, it will put my outgoing text on top followed by the 2 text I received below that. Where it should be received text, reply text, and receive text. Not sure if that made sense or not, but if you were to number them 1,2,3 in order of actual time, it's listing them in 2,1,3 order. It's not a huge deal but it's annoying to me. My iPhone did not do this. Is there a fix for this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIve noticed that when I send a text and the phone is out of signal, it just says, "FAILED" and calls it a day. I miss my blackberry in this respect, it would wait until it DID have signal and then would automatically resend. Is there any way to set this phone up so it automatically resends when I get signal back? I do get it sometimes where it says that its saving the texts until signal is rereached, however, lets say I get one bar back, well the phone "sees" that Im getting signal, tries to send, and then fails, and then calls it a day....

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been having an issue with area codes and text messaging. The contact's number is stored properly xxx-xxx-xxxx in the contacts. But when he sends a text, it only shows up as xxx-xxxx, so when I reply, of course, it won't send because Nebraska is now on mandatory 10 digit dialing. So then I have to compose a new message instead of just replying in the current thread.
I had this issue at first, but only with the numbers entered in as (xxx) xxx-xxxx. So I made sure to change every number to xxx-xxx-xxxx and it seemed to fix it for a while at least.
I could send mass texts with ease. Got a captivate last friday and tried to send my first today. First, it only lets me send to 10 contacts, but more importantly when I sent it the message shows up 10 times in same window. Is that normal for android or is there some way to change that and is there something better out there to send mass texts?

I tried everything and finally resorted to doing a factory reset, now everything is working, and I am receiving all the messages I was supposed to get during the period it wasn't working. Now that I am getting all the messages, I realize that I wasn't getting them from before the update as well. I guess chomp is not to blame.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst time poster and long time reader. First off I got the Captivate today and love it. I had the Aria and took it back and got this today. I just have a couple of questions. I will list them so it doesn't get confusing.
1. I saw in a few reviews that the battery has standby time of over a month and is generally very good and is a big part of why I bought the phone. That being said, since a full charge at 2:00pm, I am currently (9:00pm) in the yellow on my battery with normal use (ie minimal web browsing, 4 phone calls all under 2 minutes, about 10 total texts and 3 downloaded apps, and just browsing the phones features all while having a task manager). Should I just charge it after a few days and see where I am at?
2. My house usually gives me a pretty good signal but for some reason, I only have 1-2 bars in most of the areas. However, I seem to still be able to do things such as make phone calls with no bars. As for the "death grip", I also have held the phone with a case on it and the signal diminished very quickly which concerns me. A steady 2-3 bars I would be fine with, but 1 bar is unacceptable.
3. Timestamps on text messages are wrong just like they were on the Aria. It is a minor thing but it bugs the hell out of me.
Overall the phone is awesome but I buy a phone for two reasons, number one it has to be a good phone (call quality and reception) and number two it must have an above average battery (7 hours with minimal usage concerns me). I hope I am just overreacting but these are issues I think should be talked about.

I cannot receive text messages. I can successfully send them, and my data/internet work fine. I saw other posters had those issue, but where mine is different, is that all of my conversations were deleted, except for sent/received picture messages. If a particular conversation didn't have a picture in the conversation, it was completely deleted.
I've tried my settings, turning the phone off, doing a battery pool. Nothing has worked. I of course would like to do everything possible to not have to do a factory reset, but if I have to, I have to.
I have a Droid X2 running version 2.3.5. I have Verizon.
I am wondering if anyone else is having problems with their Samsung Captivate sending picture messages. THEY WON'T send! This is the 2nd phone I've had because the other one was having "seizure like activity" and this is the new one I got yesterday and it STILL WILL NOT send picture messages. I tried directly from the pictur and also by creating a new message and attaching the file.
View 18 Replies View Relatedso i have been wanting to switch a android phone for a while and a bud hooked me up with a captivate, i used it for about a month or two and switched back to my iphone because the android just ran slow as molassas which it should do on the captivate which has some beefy specs as i understand. so i switched back recently the 2.2 release (froyo)popped up on the net and everyone harped about how its 8 million times faster, so i upgrade to the 2.2 release following some instructions on gizmodo or some site similiar, now the phone runs even slower perhaps if i was to strip the at&t 2.2 and put back on just stock standard android 2.2 it would improve? am i not flipping a switch? i am dying to try out a android phone that supposedly can beat my iphone, please any advice, suggestions, smacks upside the head.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI successfully updated to the official Vodafone release using SEUS, loving the update so far but I've come across a problem with text messages.
Every couple of text messages they won't send and instead I get the message cannot be sent error. Trying repeated times has the same results then all of a sudden it will randomly work.
It can't be down to bad signal, last time the error came up I had full 'H' signal.
I also tried Handcent to see if using an app would make any difference but it didnt.
So I just got off a half hour conversation with AT&T and We cant figure out for the life of the phone, why MMS messages cannot be sent. Although, when they did send me a small AT&T logo I did receive it. And When I sent that to myself, it did send and I received it again. I then took out my SIM and put it in my BlackBerry 9700 and MMS sent find and received fine. Any size picture. I then took a picture with the camera on the Captive in Fine, Normal and Super Fine. And each picture I tried to send to myself. Each said Compressing picture and when I go to send it, it stays on sending. That guy got so fed up he told me to Google it lol. So I did, and I see some others are having the same issue.

1. Regarding font size. I realize there is no current setting for font size on this phone (that I know of) does anyone here know if the upcoming 2.1 update will include that?
2. I know there is a text size option for the browser. However, it doesent seem to work on most websites I go to (like CNN for example) I try setting it at different sizes and nada. So far my browsing experience hasent been that good because of this (having to constantly strain my eyes looking at website text) Any tips on why the text size option doesent seem to work?
3. is there anyway to increase the text size of emails and text messages?
my phone did an automatic update and when I open text messages it tells me please wait, and doesnt respond. Also a couple apps arent working now...
