Samsung Captivate :: OTA Update / Flashable Vanilla Lock Screen
Sep 27, 2010Look, I know alot of you already know about this, but I had a tough time finding it myself and figured I would help anyone else out if I could.Downloads
1. I followed the link. Files I'm referring to are under "Other stuff:"
2. Downloaded the "JH7 zip file OTA Stock" (which never worked for me as an OTA update) to my SDCARD.
3. Created a nandroid backup.
4. Disabled One Click Lag Fix.
5. Flashed the "JH7 zip file OTA Stock" from recovery menu.
The phone booted up almost stock with the update, has root/superuser but I had to enable non-market apps again, just like the first time I rooted. Also had to setup my accounts again...and apps. Then I downloaded the "Stock Lock Screen" the same way and flashed the zip from recovery menu. I was using the stock Captivate ROM - rooted and using One Click Lag Fix before, now I am using the updated JH7 ROM - rooted with re-applied One Click Lag Fix, and running the "vanilla" lock screen (screenshot below) rather than a glitchy Lockbot alternative. Jul 31, 2010I had mine set to Some Animations but just changed it to All and I really like it. The screen don't seem to change quite as fast, but it makes it feel more polished and smooth. What do you have yours set on (Its in Display Settings by the way).

Nov 18, 2010Since I got my Captivate just a couple of weeks after it hit the market, I experienced really good battery life. I could plug the charger in at 6:00 when I get up, take it off the charger at 7:30 when I leave for work, and make it til the next morning most days.A couple of weeks ago, I left for work with a full charge, and around 11:00 I took out my phone to test WiFi coverage for some new access points we had installed in the office. The phone felt very warm, and the battery indicator was yellow. For the next couple of days it went like this. I had a spare Samsung battery from when AT&T sent us a new one for my wife's Captivate when she was having random shutdown issues, so I swapped batteries. Things were fine for 10-11 days. Then suddenly last evening about 7:30, when I went to look something up online with my phone, it was very warm again, and the battery indicator was red. Had to put it on the car charger when I left church.When I got home, I put it on the charger all night. By midday today, it was in the yellow, and it finally died about an hour ago. again the handset felt very warm. I don't have a spare USB cable here at work, so will have to wait to get home to charge it. Anything particular I should look for on the phone (running apps, etc.)? Or do I just need to go ahead and place a call to AT&T support?

Feb 19, 2012recently I've been learning more and more about building AOSP builds since I'm not a huge fan of the bloated touchwiz rom's for the Stratosphere. I'm looking more for AOSP roms, like I had when I had the Evo.
1. I have all I need to build Android from source, I have the Android source, and I have sources from Samsung for the Stratosphere. This includes the kernel sources, and platform sources, how do I merge these two together?
2. Do I have to build a kernel when I build the rom, or do I build the kernel seperately?

Jun 11, 2010I think this phone is the best one on the market regarding hardware, but I am a bit concerned about its software.
I have a N1 and if I can put Froyo (when Froyo gets released) without all that crap Samsung adds up to it I'd buy one.
Even better if I could have Cyanogen 6 (which will probably be based on Froyo).
So, any news about rooting this phone?
Samsung Behold 2 :: Not Recognized By Fast Or Adb?
Apr 7, 2010I am using windows 7 64 bit the phone has been rebooted, factory reset, usb debug is on and so is pc studio and I am using the stock theme even though panda is installed. & is recognizing it as a Galaxy but fast boot and adb can't see it. Any one got an idea whats going on? I would like to pull away from the stock from on this good phone.

Sep 5, 2010I'd like to thank the people over at XDA.I think they may have found the culprit for the horrible battery performance some of us are seeing. There are two threads of interest over there:Time without signal > 50% - xda-developers Wow battery from 100 to 10 in 3 hours xda-developers.The short of it is that the 3G signals don't stay locked and the phone keeps hunting.If you go under the battery life settings and click on "Cell Standby" there's a field for "Time Without Service".Mine and many others were hover around 50%.This is constantly draining battery even while you do nothing.So the temporary quick fix is to turn on Airplane mode, then turn it right back off.This fixes some incorrect setting.On my phone, Time Without Service dropped from 52% last night to 0% today.And my battery only dropped about 9-10% idling over night.This is MUCH better than the 30% draining overnight I was seeing over the past few days.

Samsung Vibrant :: USB Connection Drains Battery Fast
Aug 16, 2010I got my Samsung Vibrant yesterday and like it a lot. However, I have what I thought was a faulty battery problem. The battery would not charge when hooking it up via USB to my desktop or AC.I took the phone to the Tmobile store and they swapped out the battery for me. The battery runs fine unplugged but as soon as I plug in the USB adaptor it starts losing a % of charge every 10 secs. As soon as I unplug it the draining stops. I called the Tmobile store again and they said it may be the USB adaptor. Well, I have a spare cable. I used it and the same thing happens.Is there something wrong with my phone? Is there a setting I need to adjust? Anyone experienced this yet?

Samsung Behold 2 : Update To 1.6 / Fast Battery Drainage
Jun 28, 2010I used to get about 35-40 hours on one charge before the wonderful update to 1.6.I got off the charger at 6am TODAY and now i am at 20%.ridiculous nothing on my phone has changed except the 1.6 update (and some app updates cause 1.6).Anyone else seeing this issue?

If you want to run your phone twice as fast without rooting, just install PandaHome [free] from the Market. It takes the phone from being utterly dead to very usable. I read there is another home replacement but its not free like pandahome. I like the behold 2 but I'm not sure why samsung decided to destroy a good thing. This could have been a very successful model had they just left the OS alone and not included bloat software.

I got my phone from AT&T store where my friend works so he took my data plan out of the plan for now but he said they will find out and add into your plan again. Also, He said that they recognize by your IMEI number. My question is: Is there anyway I can change my IMEI number? I was thinking to use my simple free Nokia phone's IMEI number and use it for Samsung Captivate so AT&T thinks that I am using Nokia phone.

Now I have an AT&T captivate and wonder whether GPS or other apps will work. Does GPS require a data plan to work? If so I'll have to figure out whetted I can add this to my T-D1 plan.
