Samsung Captivate :: Dialing Direct From Calendar Appointments
Aug 1, 2010
One of the things I miss the most from my iPhone is being able to dial directly from my Calendar appointments. When I was discussing this in the Android Lounge, some people made it seem like they do that all the time. Does anyone here know if this can be set up some how on the Captivate. Or do you need to use a different calendar or something? By dialing direct I mean you are on the item in your calendar, and you can just click a number in the notes and the dialer comes up without having to copy and pasted the number over to the dialer.

I have configured my phone to connect to my Microsoft Exchange server and when the calendar syncs all the appointments are 30 minutes early. I have connected to a second exchange account on a different site and it does the same. I have checked the timezones and they are correct. Also the default purple with black text is drive me nuts so any suggestions on changing this would be great.

As I recall, every review for the Captivate dings it for being hard to see the screen in direct sunlight. But is it just me, or is it not that bad? I've been using mine outdoors for running. That includes controlling the media player, switching to email to link to the map my running team emailed to us, and then referencing the map when so I knew where to turn. I'm not reading War and Peace with the reflection of the sun glaring off the screen, but all in all, I've found it pretty easy to use outdoors. What are your thoughts on real world outdoor SAMOLED usability?

It might sound lazy, but I am looking for a better/faster way (other than voice, which only works in quiet areas) to dial someone in my contacts. I am coming from BlackBerry, where I used to tap out the first few letters in the first OR last name and it would quickly narrow to the desired contact. Then click 'send. Each of these can take several or many "keystrokes." Also, for some reason if I type several keystrokes of a first or last name, it only recognizes a name if that contact happens to be indexed according to that part of name. For example, if John Doe is indexed as Doe, John, then typing out J-O-H...does not bring up John Doe. But for some crazy reason the indexing for my contacts got screwed up so half of them are sorted by first name and the other half by last name (so changing the Options settings doesn't get them all indexed correctly). Also because there are so many choices (using Contacts, using the dialer, using the search box on the homescreen, etc.) there isn't just one clear best way.

The calendar cant do bi-weekly appointments - is there anyway this can be added? Also in the status area at the top of the phone, is there a tool that shows a bar for CPU usage? Finally, is there anywhere where brainstorms/ideas and changes to apps can be raised? Apols i don't know what the official HTC/Android site is. Had a fish but its really not very clear! Is Android a free development OS like maemo or is it owned by google therefore all control goes through them?

I just purchased this crazy difficult droid 2. I need to set a calender that I can add my appointments to. What is the simplest one? I have tried the one that comes w/the phone but I keep getting the same Error must sync w/calender first. I would say that I'm not a TECKIE.

I can forget my own appointments without help, thank you. I hate having a smart phone alert me of an appointment with a phone call asking "Where there hell are you?" It's a "known issue." How comforting. The only workaround I have found is post-it note on the screen and pencil. My G1 may become a paperweight. If Google has enough resources to have a vice-president for climate change, get into the phone and energy businesses, and be VERY political, perhaps they could apply some of those resources to making Google Calendar dependable. What a joke.

Starting on Sunday, I have noticed that I am having appointments missing on my calendar. Actually, it is my wife's calendar that is shared. They are not all missing, only some. Also, I have confirmed on a computer that the appointments are actually there. Is this a new issue? Is there something I can do to remedy it?

I put all of my calendar appointments on my Calendar and now it doesn't sync with Google, so can I either move all appointments to the Google Calendar, or can I export the Calendar and re import it to the Google Calendar?

I've been using my Desire for a few weeks with the Calendar synced with my Google calendar, which I've added another calendar to through it's URL - this showed my lectures for Uni. Yesterday, my seminars were added to the Uni calendar and so are now automatically on my Google calendar but now, on my phone, the lectures have disappeared and only the seminars are shown... It's all there properly on Google but not my phone so I'm a bit confused.

Probably the only thing I liked about my Windows mobile phone was that it looked at my calendar and if I had an appointment it would mute my phone. I use touchdown for my exchange syncing. Is there software that can do this automatically?

I am new to Android, Google calendar and the Captivate phone. Have successfully imported my old calendar to Google Calendar which initially synced with the calendar on my captivate. However, when I add a new event to my phone calendar, it does not automatically show up on the Google calendar. the Samsung rep told me I have to edit each new even to mark it as a "Google Calendar". Is there any way to make this the default option on the Captivate phone? I am hoping to have automatic syncronization b/t the phone and the Google calendar without having to force it to do so each time.

I am thinking of getting an Eris, but am concerned about the calender. I am a therapist and need the calender not only to make reoccurring appointments, but I often need to change one of the occurrences while keeping the rest in tact. Is this possible to do with the Eris? When I went to the Verizon store, they told me the calender wasn't that sophisticated and that I should stick with my Blackberry.

Is it just me, or is there a missing option to specify what account you want to save your appointments that are created? It defaulted to my Exchange Active Sync, but... I wanted to save that appointment to my gmail calendar. =**[ I really hope that I'm just missing something, and that its possible. I just don't need my boss seeing when the next time I gotta take my dog to the vet!

Just got my new HTC Desire today and I'm loving it to death!
Just having some issues with syncing my outlook contacts and calendar appointments.
I googled it and followed these instructions: HTC Desire - Using HTC Sync
I used the HTC Sync installer thats in the supplied microSD card to install but that didn't work so I have downloaded latest HTC Sync But when I get to the next step, "Setting up HTC Sync to recognize your phone" the instructions are:
First of all, step 1. seems pretty pointless coz you go to that part of the phone and don't make any changes. When I get to step 2 I can do what the instructions says but the phone doesn't attempt to find the HTC sync on my computer, it does nothing. I don't get a message saying its unable to find the computer, i can change the setting to HTC Sync and click done and thats all that happens.
Would love some help with this one, I've tried googling but can't find a difinitive answer to this issue.
Here are my details..
1.) Model Number: HTC Desire A8183
2.) Firmware Version: 2.1-update
3.) Baseband Version 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
4.) Kernel Version: 2.6.29-3cb3dfbf
5.) Build Number 1.16.841.1 CL171554 release-keys
*Running Windows 7, 32bit
*Downloaded latest HTC Sync 2.0.33 from HTC Desire - Software Download

when I have a new event come up I add it to my phone so I dont forget it, with my Blackberry when I was at an appointment I would add notes and sync it, my office could see my notes in my Google calender and act accordingly. I noticed yesterday the 2 appointments I have this week are NOT showing up in my Google calender on the web. I have the sync set up auto, calender and gmail boxes checked in settings, what am I missing. This is causing me scheduling conflicts and I cant leave it like this.

I need a nice looking widget that I can put on my first homescreen that will show me calender appointments up to 2 weeks in advance. The 1x4 HTC calender widget on my Hero only shows events for today and tomorrow. I have tried Astrid but the widget is ugly. Are there any others? I would ideally like it to use the width of the screen and allow me to scroll through events.

Updated to 4.2 yesterday which is great.
But, on one of my panels I have a Calendar widget showing my future appointments. Since the update it only shows one week ahead where as before it showed about 2 months.
Is there a way to get it to show 2 months again?

I have a Droid Eris. I am using the calendar app (or widget?) that comes with the phone. I used to have a Palm that ran Palm OS, and the calendar had a function that would allow me to erase any calendar entries that were over a week old. I cannot figure out how to do this with the Eris. Is there a way to do a bulk erase that doesn't get rid of appointments that have yet to occur or that are repeated monthly/weekly? If not, can anyone suggest a GOOD calendar app that will allow that?

I have a client who I set up with a goggle calendar. He's a doctor, and uses his recurring appointments almost extensively. Currently, he's using a Blackberry, but because it is a private practice, he doesn't have a BES. Nor does he use EAS. Google's calendar sync with Blackberry is fuzzy at best (recurring appointments for some reason get put in as single appointments, so they EACH have to be manually edited/deleted), although I'm not sure who's at faultnor do I care What I do care about is that I recommend a phone that has seamless recurring event sync with his goggle calendar. I figured any late-model Android phone would work, but I just wanted to make certain before he bought it. Does anyone here have any experience?

I just got my motorola droid.
I don't want my contacts and my calendar to be synched with google online. i would like to them to live solely on my phone (and one of my computers if necessary).
Secondly, it would be great if there were an all-inclusive app that drew on your contacts to post, say, a contact's birthday directly to your calendar, and also allowed you to use that contact's information to dial them up on the phone, msg them, email them, etc.
Does anyone know of such an application(s) for the android operating system that does not require you to post your personal contact and calendar information out on the internet?
I have access to both windows xp and mac os x v 4.11, if a computer is required to sync with.

The main problem I am having is syncing with Google Calendar. It shows it hasn't synced since August 20th. It is checked to sync and shows the sync (circle with arrows) symbol but it never syncs. In contrast, my GMAIL is having no problems syncing...only the calendar. My wife and I share our gmail account to keep calendar's in sync and it happens on her phone too.

Is there a way to set the default calendar as the Google calender? Right now, every time I add something to the calender, the default option is "My Calendar" but I want to switch it to the Google one. Is that possible? I'm using a Captivate if it matters.

I have set up accounts for exchange and gmail. I am wondering if there is any way to tell the phone just synchronize folders I tell it to synchronize (e.g. just contacts and calendar and emails moved to certain filters). I don't want to hog the bandwidth with junk emails but at the same time don't want to miss emails from certain people which is moved to specific folders based on rules.
