Samsung Behold 2 :: Creating New ODIN Backup
Mar 13, 2010
After countless calls to t-mobile I have *FINALLY* received my update, which means now that I've got the updated kernel I'm ready to upgrade to BH_MAN's rom... But of course if something goes wrong I'd hate to ODIN back to a buggy system. So my question is this: can anyone instruct me on the process of creating a new ODIN file on a system with the updates? Because unless the process is way over my head I'd really love to give it a shot.

Here is a brief much more complete guide to creating your own Odin images for distributing custom ROMs or making backups. Thanks to kam197, BH_MAN, chadmd23, SoulCreator, and all the other community members.
Requirements:
A Samsung Behold 2 to backup/edit/test ROMs on
Root via try3/asroot2, persistent su, or modified kernel
Working ADB connection
SD Card with ~300MB free
Cygwin - if you are working in Windows
Basic knowledge of a command line
Making the ROM Dump: The Behold 2 has 14 partitions in its flash memory, but only a few of these are useful to modify. You will want to focus on different partitions depending on what you want to do. After you make a ROM dump you will need to package it using the instructions in the following section before you can flash it. Backup your personal data? You may want to backup your data while trying out a different ROM. It is simple to do. Start an ADB shell session and obtain root access. Run the following command to dump the UserData partition: Code:

First off I want to thank these Dev. for there hard work.
Kam187, Mastermind278, droiddev, mobileband, My420Time, rkhalil2009, Nu11u5
Don't extract the file(s) from the tar that you download, the file that you download is what you need. Load Into the PDA setting in ODIN Flasher!

OEM 1.6 Packages are uploaded now.Odin files for the 1.6 OEM update are now available! All necessary files and instructions are included in the download. To use the update you will need a Windows PC, USB cable, your Behold II, and about 5 minutes. Some users are reporting that after the update the phone will temporarily be stuck in a boot loop. This seems to happen when the user has previously installed certain custom ROMs such as Take5 and Galaxy R12.The work-around requires a complete factory wipe of the phone, meaning you will lose all of your data and apps not on the SD card.

Is it possible to make a "backup" like the files that can be used to flash with Odin (phone, pda, bootloader and csc tar files)? That is, if I have a phone with some firmware I want to have in this format, how can I get it? I know about nandroid backup but that's a different format.

First of all, salute to BH_MAN for offering so much joy to BHII users.
My questions is how to back up my apps. Everytime I flash a new ROM, all my installed apps and settings are wiped away. If there a way to back them up and restore them after flashing?

So I've rooted my phone but I want to install a custom ROM. I've read that I need (and I definitely want) to create a nandroid backup. The only problem is I have no idea how. I have ROM Manager installed. I read I need to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery so I did that. However, when I try to reboot into recovery either through Rom Manager or just holding volume down and power I get nothing. Does anyone have a clear and detailed guide on what to do? I'm not dead set on using Rom Manager I was just reading that it'd be easier.

I created a flash, reverting back to 2.0.1, and installed the Update.zip in recovery mode (meaning of course that I'm now rooted, with "SuperUser Permission" in my application list. I am now trying to create a nandroid backup, but am having some troubles. I recently bought the latest Pro version of Titanium Backup (5.3.2). Works brilliantly! If you don't have it yet, buy it, it's so worth the money! (If you flash different ROMs often). But there's one thing.
I would like to auto backup a few of my system settings, but nowhere near all. So I read something about creating a label, which you could use in the planner. But following instructions on creating such label, I get stuck. Instructions are: MENU > Filters > Create Label.
The menu part, I guess, means hitting the three dots, bringing up the options menu. After that: No Filters thingy. Nowhere to be found.

Alright whats up people I was recently searching through and through for a way to get mobile internet without paying that ridiculous android price so as I was searching I stumbled across a regular behold forum at Samsung Behold Forum - New Proxy (TMobileX (Free Internet!)) - UPDATE: Analysis 01.07.10 -> 1500 Users because someone said free internet for it and I gave it a run to see if it would work with our behold 2 and surely enough it does.
Instructions on how to use proxy:
Open up the (default) browser on your Samsung Behold.
Type in the following address into the : tmo-x.co.cc/tmobilex/
Type in the address you want to visit in the form on the page and select whether or not you want to use my HTML trick (free; allows you to see sites in full HTML not 'WAP-stripped').

After many attempts to try and use the terminal emulator that is already preloaded onto the behold 2 , and many failures..After trying out different Terminal Em.'s and always having my phone lag because they wernt made for it...i have finally found a way to get terminal emulator working with no lag or no slow down in performance... First you must have root,of course, Next, Use an app called root explorer or something similar and goto the folder /system/app/ and find the two files Term.apk and Term.odex, and MOVE them to your sd card from your phone, you want them gone from your system/app folder After that simply goto the market and search for Terminal Emulator , re-download and there you have it, Working term. em. on the behold 2.Peace Ladz.

This phone has the WORST idea for an sd slot. When trying to take out my sd card, i took off the cover that holds the sd card.I could use some pictures on how its supposed to look when connected. I have been trying to put it back on and all I ended up doing was bending it.I got my hands on an HTC Leo Windows mobile 6.5. Best implementation of an SD card slot ever.

Looks like samsung is getting tired of all the tweets asking about android updates for the behold 2 they just posted this on the samsung mobile twitter page:"Samsung Behold II users: At this time, we don't have information on an Android update for the Samsung Behold II.If we receive information on an update for the Behold II, we will be sure to keep everyone posted.
this was posted by samsung and is NOT in response to a question, they're just "keeping us posted." guess they are sick of us asking all the time, well...just give us a godd**n update then Sammy!!!!!
