Nexus :: Updating To 2.2.1 With Custom Recovery
Oct 7, 2010
I bought a nexus one from someone off craigslist and it was already rooted and has a custom recovery RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1 installed. I currently have FRF93 installed but my phone keeps harassing me to download the OTA 2.2.1 update. Of course when I try to install the update it gives the standard verification failed and I'm assuming I need a custom update.zip like I needed when I upgraded to FRF93.

I have N1 with FRF83, but with custom recovery image and some other customizations. Since I can't OTA update to FRF91 or even 85b from custom images, how do I revert back to the stock FRF83 completely?

ok, so I put the PB31IMG file on my sdcard, and the dinc_ota. I changed dinc_ota to update. (I did not name the file update.zip.zip) I powered down, I entered bootloader, and it loaded the PB31IMG and whatever. then I hit volume down and selected recovery. this brought me to clockwork recovery. I noticed the isntructions said to boot into STOCK recovery. well, I like a dummy ignored that and tried to apply the update.zip thru clockwork.
This is what I got:
CODE:.......................
So, is this because I tried doing it through clockwork recovery? is it because I didn't apply the first OTA update we got? what does that mean exactly anyways? is it saying I need to install the leaked froyo ROM, and then update the radio? How do I boot into stock recovery and not clockworks recovery? does this count as applying the update.zip once, meening if I do it again I'll brick my phone? should I sell this thing and get a samsung flip phone because I'm too stupid to own a Dinc?

First off let me say that I was wrong about this issue. Its not an issue with Easy root it is just something built into android. So I apologize to anyone I argued this subject with but specifically Patch. Its also not an issue with rom manager. This applys to users that after flashing a custom recovery they can boot into it once but the next time you try to boot into recovery it has reverted to stock.
This mostly happens to users of easy root or users that use my guide for rooting using Linux
So for the fix.
Download this file and place it in the root of your sd card.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/install-recovery.sh
Download Terminal Emulator from the market. The one by the dev Jack Palevich.
Open it and type the following commands.
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
dd if=/sdcard/install-recovery.sh of=/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 550 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
sync
after that just flash the custom recovery of your choice and you should be good to go.
I tested this on my phone and another user tested it for me and it worked for both of us. If anyone has an issue let me know. This issue is so sporadic that its hard to have people test the fix.

I've had my INC Rooted and have the old version of ClockworkMOD Recovery since I did it.
I believe i know how to do it,
1) Download http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover....5.0.1-inc.img
2) DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE
3) Run unrEVOked v3.0
4) Under FILE choose CUSTOM RECOVERY
5) Point to the img file
6) Plug in your phone
What does the new version do that the old one doesnt?
Is it in my best interest to do it?
How do I do it with v3.1?

I'm currently trying to flash my phone to the Android 2.1 ROM in this thread, but am stuck on updating the radio (one of the prerequisites of the howto is having the latest radio firmware).I've followed this guide to root the phone (successfully!), however the last step is updating the radio. I've downloaded the latest radio img file and renamed it to update.zip, but when I reboot (holding down the back key) I don't get an option to install this file (I get the three little skater dudes, and press vol-down for HBOOT mode etc). How do I force this to come up?As a side issue, I also don't appear to have a recovery mode any more? If I reboot recovery, my phone hangs on the Hero logo and goes no further (I've waited approx 15 mins for it to boot). How can I recreate my recovery profile?

So I have stock android 2.1 installed on my phone. I haven't gotten the OTA update. I tried to manually update, but recovery mode doesn't seem like its working - I see the triangle/question mark but there is also a phone laying down right next to it. No combination of keys will get me to a menu to apply the update.zip. I tried flashing back to 2.01 and 2.0 and updating from there - but the recovery mode stayed the same. Does anyone know where to find the full Froyo stock .SBF files?

I just recently purchased a Samsung Vibrant and started to play with it. I downloaded all the necessary drivers and I rooted it using a method I found online here with success. After playing for a few days, I decided I'd take on the task of updating to Froyo.

I've had the notification that ICS 4.0.4 is now available for my Galaxy Nexus. I've tried to apply it a couple of times but it fails with the Android on his back with a Red Triangle over him.
The phone is rooted and encrypted. How to apply the change?

What way is most efficient for updating an widget that will be a clock(Timer/Alarm), but for a clock to really works, like a clock it would be needed to update at least twice in a minute (30 sec period or less).
But that can't be effective? Have looked at some of the "threads/topics" here at StackOverFlow but haven't found any information regarding effectiveness.
(Don't own an android device yet, so I can't really test battery draining and cpu)

I've been trying to load amonRA's recovery for my nexus one. I've managed to unlock the bootloader, and gain SU permissions. But for the life of me,I cant seem to flash the new recovery image. I've used better terminal, and it says that theres no flash image found. But I have Put it on SD Card. I've copied the text correctly and I cant get it to flash. I've also tried to downgrade the radio to get better reception, and its saying that the update isn't signed. Is there something still locked up?

So now that we have the wireless hotspot option I'm done with root. Especially considering I haven't been able to get weather updates for the past two weeks and my phone restarts when trying to install new apps.
I'm ready to just set everything back to stock and go back to getting OTAs. I know I can't relock the phone.
My problem is, I have the stock recovery image however whenever I flash it and try to go into recovery it shows me this screen with a little android guy and a big triangle with an exclamation point inside. And then it sits there until I do a battery pull.
I've tried this with the stock recovery from a couple different sources MD5 checks are all good.

I just rooted my Nexus S and it was successful.
However, now when I try to install Cyanogenmod I can't get into recovery?? When I go into bootloader, at the bottom it says "Fastboot Status - FAILInvailed Command". And when I click on Recovery, the Google logo shows up with an unlocked image below it. It flashes a few times and then reboots the phone regularly.

Alright guys, latest OTA update just hit my phone. I'm curious if I'm in a safe position to update? I'm using drellisdee's recovery v1.2.3 and Velocity 0.2 From what I've read, Amon-ra and clockwork custom recoveries will block this update from installing. I just want to be sure before going ahead and telling it to install. I assume this will keep my recovery and rom intact, and stop the notifications? Are there any other ways to stop the notifications? Just want to get a definitive answer from someone that's already done this with a custom rom and recovery.

so now that im comfortable with flashing rom's, radio's and kernels i would like to partition my SD card.Although learning i am still not 100% clear on how the 3 partitions work.I understand one is for where all the apps (apps 2sd) music, photo's and video's go, another one is for increased system performance like increasing the phones virtual memory or something and i have no clue what the other is for. Also i am hopeing that you all can recommend what custom recovery you are all using, i understand that some of the new recovery's have a few diffrent options on partitioning the sd card.So basically i am looking for a little clarity in what the diffrent partitions do and recommendations on a good custom recovery tool. also do i install the new recovery tool just like flashing a new rom? i don't know how to replace the new recovery over the current one. and i cant seem to find a forum thread that explains enough of this for me. been looking for a few hours.still learning

Is there a way to dynamically load/use a custom recovery on an Andoid phone (generally, any phone) without actually having to overwrite the phone's stock recovery? For example, by booting to stock recovery, flashing a zip file that will start up CWM/TWRP so you can use it temporarily, but stock recovery is still there and when you reboot the phone it will still be there? Sort of like using a Linux live cd.
I'm asking about this because I have a phone that I want to get into that is protected by a pattern lock. I haven't examined it yet, but I am strongly expecting:
- No root
- No custom recovery
- No ADB debugging enabled
I know I can bypass the pattern lock from CWM/TWRP (rm /data/system/gesture.key)...but I would prefer to not have to do an overwrite of the recovery partition if it can be avoided.

I have been able to flash velocity 0.2 and then decided to upgrade to 0.3. When I did, I looked into flashing the turbo kernel for ally. Followed the instructions as said and now I have the choice to boot to recovery or if I let the boot go all the way through it gets stuck after the verizon logo. When I try to flash a different ROM, I hit install from SD card and everytime, no matter which ROM I pick, it starts updating but says opening file, then like 2 more lines saying opening, then it stops the install.
